Strong, smart, steady, diligent, and responsible were all words that Jean’s teachers and peers used to describe her as she grew up. She was the fearless leader of her friends, the protector of the bullied, the incredible beauty who was somehow also smart and down to earth, a paragon that most others could only aspire to become. Though she was born to an upper-middle class family in the United States, Jean had an upbringing that was anything but typical. Her father wanted sons, but instead only got Jean and her sister. So he decided to raise his daughters as if they were his sons instead. This caused great friction between him and her mother, who wanted her daughters to have a normal upbringing as girls. In the end both of them got their way, as her father made Jean and her sister Laura take part in all sorts of athletics and traditionally male hobbies, while her mother ensured that they still got to live like girls and pursue more feminine interests.
Still, the tension between her mother and father did not cease, and after a few more years they separated on not so great terms. This had a profound effect on Jean and Laura, splitting the two sisters as Jean went with her mom while Laura went with her dad. Though both sisters tried their hardest to remain close, this separation created a bit of awkwardness between the two, preventing Jean from being the protective guide that she wanted to be for Laura while also depriving her of someone whom she could share her troubles with.
Jean was an overachiever despite this tough situation, becoming a star athlete in high school, maintaining good academics and getting into a good university. She maintained her success there as well, getting a degree in sports management while still participating in varsity-level athletics. Thanks to her beauty and athleticism, she had plenty of opportunities as a model and trainer, paying her way through university with those kinds of gigs. She didn’t let her combat sports training go to waste either, becoming an instructor at her school’s judo club, while also taking part in various prizefights at both officially sanctioned and unofficial underground events. She made a bit of a name for herself, but never took it as a serious career choice, as she had lined up some good job opportunities after graduating from school.
Things would take a misfortune turn though after she graduated. Though her job was nice, it was also a massive grind that took away much of the love Jean had for sports. Her personal relationships suffered as a result, with her breaking up with her long-time partner not long afterwards. Feeling lonely and depressed, Jean decided to reach out to her sister to see what she was up to. Laura had spent the past few years in Japan and had become an idol, something Jean knew suited her perfectly. But what she didn’t know were the more recent developments in her sister’s life.
After hearing that she was now part of the LAW wrestling promotion, and seeing some of the shocking things that Laura had gotten up to (which were all over the internet), Jean decided she had to go and help her sister out before she got into any more trouble. But while she had the most noble of intentions on the surface, Jean also wanted to try her luck within the wrestling league. After all, her own life was at an impasse, perhaps trying something drastically new was exactly what she needed to get herself back up to her feet.
