This was Allison's second match of the tourney, having overcome a formidable combatant in
Ellie Cooper, and the bout only reinforced her already staunch belief that there's only a teeny-tiny possibility that a match in LAW will be a walk in the park. So, there wasn't much to convince the raven-haired woman that Penny Polendina — the bubbly and cheerful redhead- would be any different compared to her previous opponent.
"Mhmm...I dig that enthusiasm. Am eager to see what you got in your locker." Allison shook her hand, gentle but firm. Their eyes locked onto each other, not in animosity or hatred, but with the intent to come out on top of this encounter.
The referee walked to the edge of the ring to communicate with the crew near the announce desk, ironing out the finer details before the fight started, and that's when Allison heard it.
"Ding, Ding, Diiing!!....Trrrrinnngg!!" A high-frequency tone, pricking into her ear, similar to the one which signalled the start of a match. But it wasn't the official bell. It wasn't even a bell!
"Turn it off, Jared!!"
"I'm trying!!"
"Idiot! That's the speaker! gimme that...' the sound got amplified for a second. A small commotion could be seen on the cameras, with the loud, drunk mumblings of one guy and his friend inviting attention.
" I fuckin' told you not to drown in the free Sake samples at the mall..." The man, clearly frustrated by his inebriated pal, tried his best to divert attention away from them, apologising to fellow spectators and finally managed to stop his friend's ringing mobile. But the damage was done on the mat.
Allison's limbs, had immediately sprung into action, the moment the faux bell ring registered in her auditory canal, and just like that, she was all over Penny, driving her right fist into her abs using a
Right Cross and immediately planned to follow it up with a
Big Boot to the centre of her torso to drive the woman into the corner!
She planned to keep it going for a bit longer, clocking her belly with a
Left Hook this time and concluding it with a
Right Uppercut to Penny's chin!
All while the referee hadn't given the go-ahead to the fight, and Allison had been too locked in to observe that before launching shots at Penny. But now, once she would pull back, only would she notice. Something off. The referee's confused facial expression, the sudden spike of boos around the dome and nods of disapproval from a few people she locked eyes with, when looking around, eyes narrowed. Even the commentators looked stunned!
"Okkayyy...this...feels weird. Veeery weird. Are they mad that I slugged Penny? If I recall correctly, a wrestling match involves two people throwing hands and slamming the crap out of each other...." Allison muttered under her breath, still not sure about the sudden change in the mood around the ring...
