Just a few minutes prior...
Black Severin took a deep breath as he exited his locker room.
That was another thing that caught him by surprise here; he'd expected to have to work his way up to his own space, but no. Apparently, they allocate locker rooms on a show-by-show basis; he didn't dare ask lest the higher-ups realize they've made a mistake and stick him in a broom closet or something.
He gave his head a shake as he walked the halls. A vain attempt at getting the nerves out. They put him up against a Heavyweight tonight. Five inches taller, twenty-eight pounds heavier, and apparently ageless. Selket was one of LAW's best, which had him wondering if he was just considered a lamb to offer up for slaughter. Someone for her to beat on so she can get warmed up for another wrestler that normally occupies a higher spot on the card.
No. He was
not going to be another one of those guys if he could help it.
Severin gave his head another shake and had to force his mind to go blank. Get it empty. Hell, keep it empty. Try not to focus too much on the fact that he was about to get in the ring with a main eventer -- shit!
Anxiety is a son of a bitch and a half. He was about halfway to the stage area when a beautiful blonde turned the corner he was approaching. The sight of her had put the brakes on. Her face was one that he thought he'd never see again in person.
"Bee!" For the moment, at least, that did the trick, putting a big smile on his. A wide-eyed Beatriz gasped, forgetting to take another breath for the next few seconds before she would respond...
"T?" There was no denying that voice, but she still had to ask.
"Yeah!"
Terrell continued to approach her with open arms, which she leapt into with an excited squeal, hugging him as tightly as he had her.
"Dude! I..." No Pirate English whatsoever. She was dressed up and ready to wrestle, but right now, this was one hundred percent Beatriz Yvonne Murillo Gutierrez, a girl who had so much to say to the best friend she'd ever had. Questions to ask. An apology to give, and an explanation to follow. She didn't know where to start.
The blonde would decide to go with just enjoying the moment of silence that fell between them, being grateful that he'd give her such a warm welcome after the agonizingly awkward way she left three years ago.
"I didn't think I'd ever see you again."
"Me neither!" She was surprised. He sounded like he actually wanted to.
Beatriz would pull away first, coyly moving her arms behind her back. Things didn't go well the last time they hugged for so long. Funnily enough, while she worried about that, Terrell would wonder why she was suddenly being shy. Their thoughts would mirror one another, however:
It was amazing what three years could do.
Both were skinny things back in high school, but now...
"You look great." He was sure that she'd have a boyfriend for him to meet.
"You too!" She hoped that there wasn't another girl in the picture already, but he was always cute, and with how fantastic this
man is looking these days...
"Is LAW holding some kind of event or something?"
"Oh, no. I'm here to compete."
"Bullshit."
He laughed.
"No, really. My match is literally up next. I'll catch you up on that later. How about you?"
"Mine's coming up soon. I was just heading back to my locker room to finish up some stretches."
"Good luck! If I'm not beat up too bad, I'll be watching."
"Dude..." She began, with a look of concern.
"Don't talk like that. You'll make me wanna go out there with you, then I won't be able to get ready for my match, and it'll be messier than my Anarquia days."
"Sorry, mom." That got him a smack in the shoulder and a quick chuckle.
"Smartass. You doing anything tonight?"
"I'm as free as a bird."
"In that case, why don't you come over to my hotel room after the show? I'll rent a shitty horror movie we can snark at, and we can catch up and celebrate your win -- and you..." She punctuated "you" with her pointer finger.
"Are going to win because you're awesome."
Not wanting to jinx himself, Terrell simply nodded.
"Sounds good to me."
"Cool. In all seriousness, though, good luck and be careful out there." Beatriz stepped forward and gave him another hug.
"I'll be watching you." Those words would serve as extra motivation for him. Terrell didn't know how this thing was going to go, but one thing was for damn sure: If he was going to go down, it wouldn't be without one hell of a fight.
"Thanks."
The blonde lingered as Black Severin continued on to the battle ahead. Preparations for her own match would have to wait now; she wouldn't be able to focus until she saw how it went for him. Made sure that he was okay afterwards.
Now...
Standing behind the curtain, Severin took a deep breath and started on a groove even before
Skee-Lo's "I Wish" sounded through the arena. At the twelve second mark, he finally stepped through the curtain and made his appearance, moving in harmony with the music as he made his way to the ring. He danced with a grace so well-practiced that it had become natural to him.
His nerves were still keeping him from engaging with the crowd. He was in a zone on his own, paying them little attention with only small smiles here and there. The dancing wasn't for them as much as it was for his need to calm his nerves, but he was genuinely happy to entertain.
"And her opponent, standing at five-foot-eight and weighing in at one hundred and fifty pounds, fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Blaaaaack Seeeveriiin!"
The newcomer entered the ring with a leap over the ropes and transitioned into a breakdancer's windmill upon landing, eventually flipping back onto his feet, drawing a quick little pop from the crowd. He let out a satisfied chuckle, and some of that nervous energy that he was attempting to get rid of with it.
It came right back when he turned to his opponent. Selket looked like she was ready to go and none too happy. Probably because she'd been matched up with a rookie. His gut was telling him that it might not be the wisest course of action, but still, he wanted to at least try to be nice. And so he approached her, hand held out in front of him.
"Hello. Let's have a friendly match, yeah?"
