The thing that upset her was that she hadn’t done anything to earn it. The simple act of being born bestowed upon her both prestige and status. Madeline recognised a flaw in this from a young age, and she consequently started an unyielding quest to legitimise her privileged position, which she felt was unfairly granted to her at birth.
If she wanted prestige, she must earn it.
Sports became one of her first ventures. This was a skill you couldn’t be born into greatness for. No, you had to work hard to achieve this. Although she played volleyball well in junior high, she never felt a sense of accomplishment. As a child, she experimented with many sports, including football, dance, gymnastics, swimming, fencing, and tennis, embracing any activity her parents would finance.
