Valerie had only just met Makie, but she liked the woman already. She had a great energy about her, and unlike many of the faster, more active wrestlers she’d faced, she had a sound technical mind, too. She reminded her of Kyo in more than the looks - she had some of that same analytical mindset, the kind of nuanced wrestling that had given her such trouble in their match. This was the kind of wrestling she craved, the sort of thing that would make her better.
”Welcome.” She couldn't help but smirk a little as she struggled with the hold. She’d done good so far, managing to get Makie over into a pinning position - she didn’t think she could win that way, but she’d hoped it would be enough to make at least her abandon the hold. No such luck, it seemed.
Instead of giving up, Makie doubled down, rolling back and sending Valerie to the mat with a kip-up that laid her out, then went for try her hand at the armbar again, only from a better position. Tenacious, this one - most would’ve abandoned the hold and gone for something else.
Valerie’s first thought was to try for the ropes, but that was the easy way, and if there was ever a time to experiment, it was now. She couldn't kick Makie with her legs, they’d agreed on no strikes but that didn’t mean she couldn't use her legs for others. One thing in particular came to mind…
It had worked well once, why not twice? Valerie tucked her legs in, swung them around, and tried to capture Makie’s head between her thighs, this time in a side headscissor.

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
For the first time in this match, Makie was grinning now as she knelt down against Valerie's generous bosom, keeping her opponent's muscular arm trapped in both hands even as she stretched and twisted at it relentlessly. For the first time in this spar, Makie felt like she was in control of this match, and in all honesty, it felt good to be in control in a match that should have favored a bigger, stronger opponent like Valerie.
It was not to last of course: Valerie's legs kicked up, latching around Makie's head and flipping her down to the mat! "AGH!" she cried, as she was once again flipped to the mat. Feeling Valerie's powerful thighs clamping around her head, Makie would press her palms against Val's legs and push, trying to free herself and roll away before the Californian crushed her skull like a walnut...

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
While Valerie didn’t like to drink from the same well twice if she could get away with it, there was simply no avoiding that with Makie - the woman was just too good from a technical standpoint, she couldn't take the risk of letting her get out of control. The headscissor was enough to bring her down, and while the position was less than ideal, it was good enough for her to exert some real pressure, to grind away at her opponent’s skull.
It wasn’t meant to last, however, as Makie quickly pushed her way out and rolled to safety. Valerie threw her legs up at the same time, push up off her shoulders and rose to her feet in a single motion, dropping down into her wrestling stance straight away.
She started to charge in again, only to slam the breaks before she could fully engage, staying just outside of Makie’s range. Instead of locking up again, she started to circle her, pacing around her the ring, daring her to initiate. ”Whew, you are good. Really good.” She took a step in for a feint, then hopped back, trying to fake her out. ”When did you start training?”

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
Makie's heart was racing as she narrowly managed to escape Valerie's crushing headscissors. She braced herself for a potential follow-up from the brawny Californian, a possible charge to close the distance. Instead, she saw that Valerie was keeping a respectful distance, motioning for another lockup. Catching her breath, Makie rolled up to her feet and mirrored Valerie's movements, taking a few vital seconds to recuperate.
She blushed as Valerie complimented her. It wasn't often she got compliments at all, let alone from the daughter of one of the greats. "Th-thanks!" she said, just as Valerie stepped in. She darted low, ducking under her arm and spinning around behind her, but not striking. "I started training a little under my dad, just before he..." She trailed off, not wanting to finish that sentence. "And then, when I started undergrad, I began training a little more seriously under a former pro wrestler named Midori Hyuga. She pretty much taught me everything that my dad didn't. And, of course, there was always Kyo. He helped me learn a lot as well."
Just as she finished that sentence, she would run forwards, faking a grapple and instead leaping up, trying to latch her legs around Valerie's head and bring her down to the mat in a frontal-facing triangle choke hoke! "How about you? I'm guessing you trained early on under your mom, right?"

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
This was just a spar, right?
It was starting to not feel like a spar, just going off the way Valley’s heart was racing and her palms were getting sweaty. She didn’t want to go all out with Makie, wanting to keep the bulk of her energy in reserve for Kyo and seeing her as a warmup, but that was getting harder and harder to do with each passing moment. Something about wrestling Akamatsus just brought the beast out of her, it seemed. Plus, it was becoming increasingly apparent that this wasn’t an opponent she could hope to hold out against. She would need more of her arsenal than she’d earlier expected to use.
She struggled to keep up, whirling around as Makie nearly made it to her flanks. ”Midori Hyuga…” The name was familiar, though she couldn't quite place it in the heat of things. It would come to her later. She wouldn’t have much time to do so now, however, as Makie charged in, closing the distance in a flash. The sheer boldnes caught her off guard, and the next thing she knew, a pair of slim but solid thighs had caught her head and arm in the triangle choke.
Valerie fell to a knee, keeping Makie aloft as she struggled for balance. ”Moms. Plural. But yeah.” She struggled to get the words out as the hold tightened. ”Them, my half-brother, my half-sister, my gene-dad. Not exactly a traditional family, but…it works.”
Valerie began to push up, trying to rise back up to her feet while Makie continued to crank the hold. She brought her hand to Makie’s back side as she rose, pushing on it for support - a little improper, but she had no other options for the time being.

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
For Makie, it was never just a spar...just as it was never just a match for her. No matter what kind of fight she found herself engaged in, she always went into it feeling like she had something to prove, that she had to justify her presence there. Even here, in a mostly empty gym with no one else watching, she felt that she had a lot on the line and a lot to prove...if not to herself, then to her opponent. The fact that her opponent was the daughter of a woman she had idolized played a not insignificant part of it, of course.
She heard Valley grunting and gasping as her thighs enclosed themselves around her head and throat; leaning against the mat, she pressed her palms down to stabilize herself even as Valley fought to free herself. "Well, I'm not one to judge," she breathed. "You moms are two of the world's greatest...and one of them is someone I always thought was pretty awesome so...makes sense you learned a lot from your whole family..."
Even as she continued this banter, she felt Valley's palm press against her butt, even as Valley rose, forcin Makie's legs to tilt upwards and her body to lean back onto her shoulders. Makie blushed at this sudden contact; it made sense why Valley was doing it, and she was under no illusions that there was any other reason, but...still...
Between distraction, gravity, and Valley gradually loosening Makie's grip, her fall was inevitable; with an alarm cry, Makie tipped backwards, flopping over onto her front as her legs came loose from around Valley. Huffing, she scrambled on the mat, and tried to leap forward, wrap her arms around Valley's midsection, tackle her onto her back...although against a larger and stronger girl like Valley, Makie's chances of success weren't great...

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
Makie wasn’t all that heavy, probably in the lightweight division, but you didn’t really need that much weight to be effect with a hold like this. She had it locked in tight with little give, really clamping down around Valerie’s skull, making every breath a challenge. She was certain the woman could’ve put her down with a hold like this. All the more reason to make sure she didn’t have that time.
She just had to get her up, a little higher, and then-
Makie disengaged before Valerie could lower the boom on her, wildly flipping away and dropping to her feet as she staggered back, taken off balance by the sudden shift. She gathered her bearings just as her opponent came rushing her way, leaping in with a wild attempt to take her down. She would give the younger Akamatsu sibling points for being aggressive, but this was well-within Valerie’s amateur wrestling wheelhouse.
”Gotcha!” She shot her legs out as Makie came in, caught her head with a front facelock, and threw her upper body forward, trying to drop her weight on top of her opponent and pin her underneath, taking control of her with a tight hold and cut off her mobility.

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
Makie, admittedly, didn't know what she was thinking by leaping forward to tackle Valerie head on like some sort of quarterback, even though the other woman easily outweighed her by a considerable margin. Perhaps she was hoping to catch Valerie by surprise, and hit her with just enough force to knock her over. Perhaps she just didn't want to be stationary on the mat for Valerie to then latch onto her with a pinfall or a submission hold. Perhaps it was a combination of both.
Either way, it failed fantastically.
"Gggghkk!" she gasped as Valerie clamped her in a front facelock. The next thing she knew, almost the entirety of Valerie's weight was now pressing down against her, smushing her against the mat. She gagged and rasped in Valerie's grip as she pawed uselessly at the other girl's encircling arms; she twisted left and right, trying to throw the two of them over, her arms probing along Valerie's backside to find purchase against her thigh as she tried desperately to initiate a roll...but with Valerie's weight pushing down on her like this, that was looking increasingly unlikely....

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
Now, this was familiar. Valerie was getting flashbacks to her amatuer career, where she’d often found herself in similar positions with oncoming opponents. Men, in particular, liked to try and take her head on, thinking they could overwhelm her and get her down for the count, but she’d learned to counter that sort of reckless charge and react accordingly. She could admire Makie’s guts, but this attack was doomed to fail.
She let her weight fall on top of her opponent, pressing her to the floor, but Makie was scrappy and slippery, putting up a good fight. Valerie wouldn’t be able to hold her like this for long, which was fine—that wasn’t the plan, anyway.
She threw her legs about and swung over her opponent’s back, trying to mount Makie’s waist and take control of her from there. At the same time, she attempted to wrap her arms around the smaller woman’s neck and apply a sleeperhold. She didn’t put much pressure into it, not trying to knock her out, but enough to stay firm and hold her in place. She wasn’t getting out easily. ”I think I feel a tap coming on…”

Re: A 100% Platonic, Non-Romantic Training Session
Makie continued to scrabble against the mat, her hands frantically grabbing against Valerie's thighs as she tried to find purchase and force a roll. Her breathing became laboured as she felt herself being crushed between the mat and Valerie's abdomen, and in vain, she twisted left and right, trying to dislodge her heavier opponent. In the midst of all of this, she realized she might have accidentally grabbed two holds of her opponent's butt; she really hoped Valerie didn't think it had been personal.
Then, blissfully, Valerie's weight was removed...for all of a few seconds. That was, until it came down again across her back. Even as Makie tried to push herself back up, she suddenly felt Valerie's arms snaking around her throat for a crushing grip.
"HHHNNNK!" Makie gagged, her arms pawing at Valerie's. Her air circulation wasn't completely cut off, but it was still damn uncomfortable. Valerie was all but impossible to dislodge, and Makie was now effectively pinned to the mat.
"In...your...dreams!" Makie rasped in response to Valerie's suggestion. She furiously tried to twist left and right, trying to get her knees under her in the hopes of initiating a roll. She was in a really bad spot, to say the least, and all Valerie needed to do was add a little more pressure to turn it into a full blown sleeper hold, but Makie had always been too stubborn for her own good, or so Kyo kept telling her...
