What do you look for?

Unread post by Noob »

I'm both curious and bored so I figured I'd ask...

What does everyone here look for in a match or a wrestler? Any specific spots or movesets, styles, or anything else? Do people have a preferred post length? Post your preferences :P Was thinking of maybe making this into a few polls but idk.

Anyways I guess I'll start. Personally I go for characters/people that don't seem like they take themselves too seriously. I seem to lean towards just standard matches but I'd love to see more fun gimmicky stuff going on!

Good topic for a new member such as myself.

I prefer super heels versus super faces, standard pinfall matches, swimsuits-pads-boots. All of the pro wrestling moves in combination with those preferences make the match angle/drama/finishes hotter.

Just someone I think who's personality and style would make good chemistry, positive, or negative to my characters. Quality of posts is important too.

Great idea for a thread! I definitely like people who put a lot of thought into their characters and can come up with fun and interesting personalities and backstories. Reading a well-detailed, thought-out profile is always a joy, and the more details I see about a character, the more the gears in my head start to turn with thoughts of how I can play off on them with my own. It's especially fun if I meet someone I can really sit down and discuss ideas for where to take a match or a storyline with and share ideas together, where we're both doing our part to make it memorable, fun, and flowing nicely. I've had some of my favorite threads happen that way!

In terms of the threads, I like a good detailed response, and I can run long myself, but I can work with whatever as long as it gives me enough to understand what's going on and write a response appropriately. I prefer to have some good back and forth that gives both characters the proper time to shine, unless it makes sense to be a squash for story reasons. I do like some stuff that's on the lewder side, like substance wrestling or some humiliation, groping, and stripping (full confession, bra and panties matches are kind of my guilty pleasure), but it's not a requirement, and if it doesn't make sense I'm perfectly content to do a standard match. Not big on hentai, though. Anything where they're more invested in fucking than fighting doesn't hold my interest; if that's what I wanted to read about there are plenty of places for that. I don't have anything against it, but it isn't really my thing. While I do do a lot of standard one-fall matches, I'm down for experimenting and trying new things, and I've had fun trying out non-standard match types, if it suits the characters and the story we're trying to tell.

Apart from the obvious which is pins of all descriptions, it is character and chemistry that make a match for me.

Length of post isn't majorly important but mood and tone are massive. The same goes for characters, certain players characters are special and I will always look for a RP with them. I suppose it is like food, we all have our favourites.

Match wise, I don't mind a even story with back and forth or a squash, it depends on who and for what reason. Again, I have favourite match types and moves/endings, but that works both ways, if I know a player loves slams, its gonna be slam city! I do tend to show respect to peoples characters by making them look as incredible as possible and the same in return is appreciated.

Smothers are great (duh!) but Hentai is a bit.. meh

What I look for in a match is a general sense of coherence that progresses a story.

Let's break down the coherence part. I will use an analogy that I think a lot of people will recognize: Magic the Gathering. In Magic, all creatures attack the same. They can only attack once per turn. Once they have attacked, they cannot block on the opponent's turn. A creature can block another and thus save the player's life points. That being said, there are certain abilities that creatures can have that allow them to bend the rules, and attack in different fashions. A creature with flying cannot be blocked unless another creature has flying or reach. If all creatures lack those abilities, then the creature may attack a player's life points directly. There are clearly rules of the universe, but there are certain special moments that allow for the rules to be bent.

Where this gets a little bit fuzzier is when it comes to wrestling. I basically know how long it takes me to run a mile or how many push-ups I can do, but I have never been hit with a steel chair, so I do not know what that feels like. I can imagine, but I do not know how much it would incapacitate me or limit me after I shook off the incapacitation. I can create mini-rules. Okay, your lady got hit by a wooden object. That knocked them down, but only for a post or two, after which they were a little bit groggy but otherwise fine. From that, we can tell that getting hit with a steel chair would knock down for two posts or 30 seconds, because a steel chair is slightly harder. It would also vitiate that body part, making attacks from there a little less powerful. This is something that is rarely that consistent within a fight, let alone across multiple bouts on multiple boards. This is something that you have to suss out a little bit with your partner.

However, deviating from those 'rules' also brings the match to life. Sure, Jessica just got hit with a steel chair, but she is fucking livid about an insult or riding high off the adrenaline from a power move. She has a special 'ability' like flying where she can tank it and be hurt but otherwise good in two seconds. There are limits to this of course, in that a 300 pound woman is not going to pull off a triple corkscrew no matter the situation, but rules can be transgressed here and there. This makes the match more exciting from an emotional standpoint, as it is not clear which force is the more powerful.

Making a consistent universe does a lot to make the story coherent and make sense. This creates an expectation which can be followed through with or nullified based on how you want the match to go. In jazz, the I follows the V follows the II. That sounds pleasant when played through like that, tension and release. But when I switch up the I or the V, that creates even more tension and an interesting twist going forward.

We then transition to the story. What is happening in the match? How does this fit into the greater narrative arc of a character's career, or their life? Perhaps a wrestler is coming back from a gruelling loss and hurt and angry. Perhaps a wrestler is starting a feud with another. There is an end goal that you are working towards, and the mini-universe you are creating can be made with rules that make reaching that goal more interesting. Althought, not every match needs to be part of some grand scheme. In real life, sometimes you have days that are not really that connected to other days. Not every girl you date is going to be your wife, and that is fine, she doesn't need to be. But if you string enough of those little stories together you can weave together an interesting tapestry.

What wounds is your character carrying over from the last match? What sources of pride? How can those be expanded upon here, and how would that affect what she is doing at any given moment? If you can answer those questions within the confines of the 'rules' of the match, well, you can write something pretty dang interesting.

Something that I didn't really touch on was the fact that this is collaborative. You want your posts to feel impactful. It is frustrating to see no real substantial reaction to a post of mine. Fine, not every punch is going to send the other person flying back. But it is much more than that. Even if they dodge or tank the punch, there still needs to be something, as that is a momentous event. Were they feeling angry at themselves in that they could not dodge it in time, or were they feeling confident in themselves having evaded it? Or the punch landed. Did that have them feeling worried or scared or frustrated? And what are they going to do back?

Similarly, it is hard to respond when the opponent is not really doing anything. When I post, I am answering a question. If I was not asked a question, I really don't know what to do. I am not painting on a blank canvas, I just don't have a canvas at all.

That wasn't really what you were going for, I don't think, but I look for matches and threads that fit that framework.

i can relate a lot with lukas.
anyway, what i mostly look for is great/interesting/fun ideas. be it on the grand scale, like a story, or mini ideas that spans over a few posts in a match/thread.

I really prefer that both my and the other person's characters are kept in character (both fighting ability and personality wise). I always look at what other characters are capable of and I try to play accordingly. Therefore I expect the same of other people, otherwise there can be misunderstandings in how could my character do this in this situation or vice versa.

i like integrating my characters into other people's stories. i dont annoyingly insist, but i do like that. story driven threads just seem more interesting to me than the inconsequential ones. standalone matches are sometimes fun, but they feel like filler in anime.

as mentioned earlier, i look into the characters that pick my interest and i usually suggest matches that the characters prefer. or mix the preferences of my and my opponent characters. my point is, i'm usually the one who tries to adapt to others, but i sure dont mind if others try to adapt to me as well.

Riot mentioned the post length and i agree. i have no problem if people occasionally put small replies in my threads, but the people who play only with short replies (2-3 lines or so) are on the lowest part of my rp hierarchy. yes, there are some long posts that are mostly meaningless and contain rubbish, but thats a rare case and the longer the post, the more i have to work with, statistically speaking.

I'm also with Captain here. hot girls will immediately score points with me, however without that girl being an exceptionally interesting character, she's probably not gonna stand out for me, compared to others. A few examples would be Kyoko and Gaster - if they weren't more than just cute girls, i dont think i would even have threads with them. thats not because i would dislike them (i wouldnt), but its just because there are many other interesting AND hot characters.

Genuinely, there's very few things I specifically don't like. Boxing is an absolute no. Inclusion of weapons is fine, but a outright weapons match is a no.

Character wise - The curvier the better. I'm not opposed to threading with thinner/smaller characters, but as my own roster suggests, the bustier and bouncier, the better. I don't think there's a personality I outright dislike.

Story wise - Genuinely anything, so long as it's not just an excuse to go over someone. I like stories inspired by the ones from WWE themselves, along with ones from movies, tv shows etc. I do like definitive ends however. If I see the same people fight five times, I don't want the final match to be a draw. That being said, there's always room for more afterwards. Shock endings for the sake of actual progression are rarely enjoyed by me too.

Attitude wise - I tolerate most, but by god do I despise selective posters. Business in your lifestyle can't be helped, so naturally sometimes you want to focus on threads to get them done, be it because they are important or otherwise. But seeing a thread you made with someone stay on page one for five months whilst they fill threads with another is the biggest kick in the teeth I've routinely suffered rp-ing.

Match wise - As I've said, I don't like boxing at all. Striking is okay, but if your character solely does it, don't expect me to be smiling. Same for weapons, though less so, if the scenario is right. Generally, I enjoy the power side of things over technical or aerial ability. Crushing submissions, powerful slams, long holds. All the rest. Perhaps to the shock of a few as well, I don't like outward sex matches. I tend for grinds, smothers and the like; wrestlers turning one another to putty with holds and such as opposed to outright humping them or otherwise. Power playing can be great when the context is right, but timed wrong it can kill momentum for me outright.

Post wise - As of late I can't really comment on this without being hypocritical, but the more detailed the post, the better. That been said, there is a limit. If I see your replies are you just writing what I've put but from your perspective with nothing new happening, expect a eye roll from me. If your replies are hashing out details you've hashed out countless times before with zero reason to mention again save for a larger word count, expect me to face palm. Often enough, a few lines will do when the scenario is right, but that doesn't mean I like to aim for the bare minimum.

Replying wise - Everyone has busy days, weeks and months. This isn't a hobby. This point is more of a note in the fact that if your replies take so long every time as to the point where I have to actively re-read what has happened so far, I'll likely not enjoy it.

Long term (wise?) - To me, what separates board stuff from IM stuff is how one thread evolves into the next. Though considerably less so for my side characters, I prefer my stuff to roll into more. I rarely enjoy singular threads with Karen, Eileen and the like - if I'm using them against you, chances are I'd like more stuff to come out of it.

Giving Back - This goes for threads where I nab a win, do a specific act, focus on a specific kink or vice versa. If I take something from you, I expect to give it back. If I do a thread that's mostly under your command, I'd like something similar in return. If I have a main go over yours, I'll expect to give you a good win back. If your entire gimmick is to do one kind of thread, with one kind of payoff, my logic is this - Why wouldn't I just go to another, and get the same thing with more options available afterwards?

I generally don’t care too much how long the post is so long as it’s something I can work with, as for what I look for an interesting character will usually trump it being a super cute face, cute faces are just cherries on top.that also means that even if the post isn’t long I prefer it not to just ‘this happened’ without any insight on the way your character feels about it, though I understand that sometimes there really didn’t a need to go into detail on how your character is thinking and feeling. I like making stories so I tend to have an odd aversion to one off matches but I know that there nothing wrong with one of’s and I don’t actually mind doing them I just harass you for other ideas XD
