A Melodic Tune (for SubtleRoar)

Melody would nod at Lex's verbal jab as she got up to her feet, rubbing her sore jaw as she did. Still, she did enjoy her opponent's jokes at her expense. It made her want to beat him even more in the competitive sense, rather than pure rage his misogynistic remarks induced in her when they first met...

"Ready!", she would say to Lex, as round 2 between them begun!

This time, Melody would go for a more aggressive approach. As her and Lex would close the distance between each other, she would be the one to go for a hard hook on the inventor's jaw!

*The pretentious pugilist felt a palpable bond beginning to develop between himself and the verdant vixen; it felt as though any prior animosity that had been lingering between them was being chipped away at, one leathery fist at a time.* "Well, if you insist~" *Lex sent a smarmy wave in Melody's direction, deliberately trying to push the envelope without trying to send her over the edge- He had sent this woman into a blind rage before, and that's not something he desired to do again, at least, not in this lifetime.*

*Noticing a shift in her stance, Lex tightened his gauntlets before attempting to toss yet another clubbing blow against Melody's maw; however, she would instantly prove how aggressively nimble she was by popping the condescending creator right in his kisser!* "Grrrhh!" *Much to his surprise and chagrin, that one actually hurt; his legs almost split down the middle, as his stance almost wavered from the solid impact the shot generated.*

"A solid hit!", Melody would happily think to herself, as her right hook reached Lex square on his jaw!

But she knew wouldn't just stop there. She wanted to avenge her earlier fall by making Lex do the same, even with her limited boxing ability. As such, the greenette would shoot her left arm upwards, aiming for the inventor's jaw once more, only this time going for a vicious uppercut!

*While his head still rang from her earlier blow, this certainly wasn't Lex's first time lacing up his gloves- Harder shots had sent him staggering backwards, and what Melody connected with wasn't anywhere close to shots his hardened body had withstood before. Noticing a slight torque to her hips, something he couldn't rip his eyes away from since the beginning of their spar, Lex knew what was on the horizon, and he decided to reciprocate Melody's buffet of fists with a solid blast of his own, in the form of a left hook to her noggin!*

"S..sorry Mel..b..but I'm not about to drop to you twice in two fights!" *He snickered, physically recoiling from her surprisingly powerful fist yet knowing that his glove had fully connected with the side of her dome. However, he knew he had to mitigate his level of momentum in order to avoid any monstrous forms of damage, but that didn't mean he avoided adding some emphasis to his attack, leaning in forward to try and gain some ground over his intrepid foe.*

Right before Melody's fist launched up, Lex's clenched hand shot forward, nail Melody squarely on the side of her head!

"Ah...", Melody let out, dropping her arms...

...before dropping on her knees...

...and dropping herself forward. For a moment, it seemed like the greenette was out cold from the punch...

*Once the visceral contact landed against Melody's rather dense skull, Lex felt a swell of confidence course through his body- He felt somewhat vindicated from seeing his friendly rival plummet into the canvas like a meteorite. However, once the sonorous* "THUNK!" *Reverberated across the gymnasium, Lex's jubilation immediately turned to concern. He dropped the pompous act and bent a knee, before attempting to prop Melody's body up against an adjacent ring post.*

"H..hey, wake up. If this is some elaborate trick..well..it's funny sure, but I'm legitimately worried here." *She had convinced him of her pugilistic prowess, and that seemed to be nothing more than a bit of embellishment, so perhaps this too was her grossly exaggerating on how damaged she had become, he thought.*

Melody, however, was almost properly out cold from the hard punch, barely awake as Lex helped her up, and prompted her against the ring corner, allowing the hurt greenette to shake off the cobwebs:

"Uuuuugh...thanks...", she would say, still feeling a sharp pain in her jaw, and a small headache in the aftermath of the spar:

"Guess...wasn't as good at boxing as I though, huh...", she said with a sad smile towards the inventor...

"And if you judge yourself too harshly, you never will be." *He took this opportunity to sooth her confidence, as it seemed to be waning at an alarming rate. Gingerly nudging her right shoulder with his closed mitten, Lex attempted to raise her spirits just a tad by offering some words of encouragement to the downtrodden pugilist.* "Listen, believe it or not, I was a pretty decent puncher back in my day. All it takes is a little bit of talent, and a lot of luck, and you'll be able to call yourself a true master of the gentleman's..." *He thought for a moment before retracting his last word* "..Gentleperson's sport."

*Just then, a thought crossed his mind.* "Say, I typically finish my tinkering much earlier than anticipated most of the time, so how about you drop by the Haven every so often so I can teach you some pointers?" *His grin a genuine expression, Lex gave his crestfallen companion a playful shoulder nudge, trying to get her to say yes.*

Melody was, once again, surprise at how Lex was acting with her. A few weeks ago, he was a chauvinistic pig...and now, he was acting with her with an utmost respect. She thought some people simply committed too much to their characters in the ring...

He wasn't only lifting her spirits, but offering to coach her in boxing, to help her improve. And, if her boxing improves, she imagined her striking ability...and dodging ability for wrestling would improve as well!

"That...sounds great, Lex! If this isn't too much of a hassle, I will call you up at the beginning of the week to check if you are up for training, and on what days!", she would accept the offer with little hesitation, shooting a polite smile at the inventor.

"Sounds like I'll have to free up some time on my immensely busy schedule, but you're worth it." *Lex gave Melody a friendly nod, attempting to imply that someone who tinkers with miscellaneous gadgets in his spare time has a preoccupied life.*

With the both of them having thoroughly enjoyed the others' company for the day, Lex gave his newfound companion a gentle wave, sending her off for the day- Both reinvigorated by the spar and with the hope that she would visit again sometime soon.*
