In her locker room, Makie took a deep breath. Well, she thought to herself, this was it.
It had been a few weeks
since she had run into Mako on the LAW grounds; only a few weeks since she and her ex had had a very public blow-out that had led to a match challenge. It still hurt Makie to think about it. It hurt her even more to think that, before long, she was going to have to get physically violent with someone who she had once cared very dearly about.
She clenched a fist.
No, she thought angrily to herself,
fuck Mako. This will teach her to look down on me.
The stage was set for an undercard match between herself and Mako in We Are LAW-- Makie's first supercard match, though she couldn't say she was happy about the circumstances.
She thought back briefly to her first match with Mako, all those years ago. She had the shark girl had practically torn up the ring: she had been utterly determined to win, but so was Mako. And in the end, Makie just could not match the shark girl's sheer and utter brutality; the match had ended with Makie bloodied and knocked out cold, and Mako the winner.
She had trained a lot since then, and not just with Kyo, but also with Tina Armstrong, and Alaina Sanders, all in an effort to overcome her losing streak. She really hoped it would be enough. It had to be.
She took a deep breath. It was time to go.
As Makie's music blared on, she made her way into the arena, to the cheers of her fans. For once, Makie was not her usual, enthusiastic self as she made her way down the ramp: she seemed more focused on the ring, more relentless. To many in the audience, it seemed as though she and Kyo had switched personalities.
Making her way to the ring, Makie slid under the ropes and hopped to her feet. Folding her arms, she turned and stared at the arena ramp, waiting for Mako to show up...
