After making an impact in their debut match, Xenia and Korina were eager to keep the momentum going. So the two sisters were more than glad when management booked them for another tag match. This time, their opponents were an actual established tag team. A man and a woman, both of whom looked very similar to each other. Naturally that would lead to the assumption that they were family, though no one knew for certain what their exact relationship was.
For Xenia and Korina though, the only thing that mattered was that the two were much more familiar with each other than their previous opponents had been. So this would be a true test of how the Daughters of Athena would stack up against the teams LAW had to offer. It was a test that the two sisters would rise up to meet. Spoiler
"The following contest is a tag-team match scheduled for one fall! Introducing first at a combined weight of 276 pounds. From Athens, Greece, they are the Daughters of Athena. XENIA & KORINA SAVALAS!"
The pair made their way down the ramp as their theme played throughout the arena. Smiling and waving at the roaring crowd, they stepped through the ropes and approached separate corners where they briefly posed on the second rope drawing a fresh wave of cheers. They then met in the middle of the ring to pose together for another round of cheers while they waited for their opponents. Spoiler
Nate and Kate were now in the locker room. They had just finished getting changed and were now making some last-second checks to make sure their uniforms were in order. The two were feeling confident after winning their last match. Though they were also excited for their opponents, they were facing a tag team known as Daughters of Athena. Like themselves, they were from Greece and had a Divine theme for them. As such, it was almost like they were related. Though that would only make them fight even harder, they were going to show that they were the best tag team, especially from Greece.
With everything ready to go, the duo would exit the locker room and make their way down the halls. They would give a few nods to the staff member but otherwise move to the staging area. The Divine Stars would arrive, now just outside the main entrance to the ramp. They would await their signal.
The stadium was currently buzzing with sound and flashes of flight. Though suddenly everything would go dark and quiet for a moment. Then, a theme song would begin to play, breaking the silence. Theme Song
Two spotlights would turn on, providing the only source of light. They would highlight two figures who were on the entrance ramp, Nate and Kate, both of whom were posing. Divine Stars
The Divine Stars would hold the pose for a moment, letting the audience take it all in before breaking the pose and making their way down the ramp. As they did, the two spotlights followed them, being the only source of light. “Now making their way to the ring, at a combined weight of 296 pounds, they are the Divine Stars! Nate and Kate!” declared the announcer.
The mixed tag team would climb up the steps and, like before, would hop over the top ropes. Fans who followed them would know this was symbolic, showing they were above everything. The two went to the two opposite neutral turnbuckles and climbed up to the top ropes, the spotlight still following them. Kate and Nate would both pose for the crowd for a few seconds.
Upon finishing posing, they would both jump off the turnbuckle. The lights would return back to normal, and they would make their way to the center of the ring. The Divine Stars would take a moment to size up their opponents.
“So you're our opponents. Fellow Divine of the same pantheon. This will be an interesting bout.” said Kate in an excited tone as she placed her hands on her hips.
“Finally, worthy opponents. Though this won’t stop us from crushing you.” said Nate in a confident tone as he placed his fist in the palm of his other hand.
The similarities between the two teams were not lost on either Xenia or Korina. Everyone in this ring right now (with the exception of the referee) was a blonde Greek of divine origin. Those similarities only served to raise the stakes. Because now it wasn’t just about winning or building momentum, it was about proving who was the best tag-team to come out of Greece.
“It certainly will be interesting. But I’m afraid there’s only room for two Greek goddesses in LAW, and you’re looking right at them!” Korina declared.
“In any event, we look forward to sharing the ring with you two. Let’s see whose light shines brighter!” Xenia’s response was comparatively more humble and diplomatic than her sister’s, but it also made clear that the two were not to trifled with. Once the introductions were done, the Daughters of Athena moved to their corner. Korina stepped through the ropes to hang out on the apron while Xenia remained in the ring to start the match.
The Divine Stars would listen to the comments their opponents made. The duo would focus on Korina first. "Oh, afraid of some competition?" stated Nate in a confident tone as he grinned. "You know, the Titans declared something similar before Zeus overthrew them." said Kate with a smirk. "Perhaps we will have history repeat itself. The new generation overthrowing the old guard." declared Nate as he looked at Kate before the two nodded in agreement.
The mixed tag team then focused their divine gaze on Xenia. "Same, let us give everyone a match that no one will ever forget and will talk about for ages to come." said Kate as she decided to be diplomatic as well. With that, Nate would back off, going to his corner and getting behind the ropes. He would let Kate start things off. The referee then signalled for the match to start.
DING DING DING
With the match now underway, Kate would stretch her arms out, entering a grappling stance. She would start to move, attempting to circle Xenia. "Ready to grapple with your fellow Divine?" she asked as she tried to flank her opponent, attempting to get an idea of how fast she was. Regardless of the outcome, Kate would try to move forward and engage in a collar-and-elbow tie-up.
“Not really a competition if we end up outshining you!” Korina fired back to the young man on the opposing team. Though her tone was confident, she knew better than to underestimate their opponents. Though it was easy to write off the younger team as inexperienced rookies that they could walk all over, the way they were built, the way they carried themselves told a different story. It told a story of a team that had been around the block and knew what they were doing. The fact that the young team had already gotten at least victory in LAW lent further credibility to this narrative.
“I’m sure one day the two of you could rise up to claim the spot formerly held by the old guard. But today won’t be that day!” Xenia said as she readied herself for battle. Across from her the female of the opposing duo, Kate, stayed in the ring while her partner took to the apron.
Once the bell rang, Kate immediately began circling around her to try and flank her. Xenia responded in kind and mirrored the younger woman’s movements, keeping a close eye on her and trying to deny her an opening. When Kate moved up with her arms outstretched, Xenia moved to meet her halfway.
“Very well. Let’s see if the newer generation can back up their words about overthrowing the old guard.” Xenia engaged Kate in the collar-and-elbow tie up. She exerted her strength trying to overpower the younger woman and force her back towards the ropes. If she managed to do so, Xenia would follow it up with a hard chop across the chest.
Kate moved in and tried to flank her opponent. However, it seemed that Xenia was able to keep up with her. Still, it did inform her that her fellow Goddess was no slouch. With that, the two locked up in an elbow and collar tie-up and attempted to overpower each other. While Kate did have the height advantage, Xenia had the weight advantage, and the female Divine Star would find herself being pushed back by the powerhouse, but she wouldn't let this bring her down. "Oh, we will, and it won't just be you; it will be everyone! We are going to revolutionize the entire mixed tag wrestling division." said Kate in a confident tone as she tried to shift her weight, attempting to take her opponent off balance, though it didn't seem to have much effect and she kept getting pushed back.
Eventually, the Divine Star felt her back touch the ropes, and the referee would come to signal the breakup of the hold. As Kate was released from the hold, she would suddenly be struck by a brutal chop. The Divine Star would gasp for air before then glaring at her fellow Divine. Well, two could play it like that. She decided to return the chop, attempting to send one across Xenia's chest as well, willing to go blow for blow.
Nate was be watching the entire thing. He would put his two hands around his mouth to further project his voice. "LET'S GO KATE. LET'S GO KATE." he yelled out several times, trying to get the crowd to chant it as well. He was hoping to give his tag team partner a bit of a morale boost while destroying that of their opponents.
"A lofty goal to be sure. I admire your ambition, though you won't be achieving that goal at our expense!" Xenia said before letting loose a hard chop across her opponent's chest. The sound Xenia's hand colliding with Kate's flesh and the younger woman's pained expression elicited cheers from Xenia's sister from the corner. Kate didn't take that lying down though and fired back with a chop of her own, causing Xenia to grimace in pain from the strike.
Xenia could hear the male component of the Divine Stars cheering his sister on, leading a chant to get the crowd behind her as well. It seemed to work on at least a few people in the audience as she could hear a few chants of "Let's go Kate!" start up. Xenia tuned the noise out though, instead focusing on the opponent in front of her. She grabbed the younger woman by the wrist and sent her across the ring with an Irish Whip. When Kate came off the rebound from the ropes, Xenia would attempt to knock her down with a shoulder tackle.
Kate could now hear the crowd cheering for her; it was actually nice, and it was giving her a bit more energy. Nate had done a great job of getting the crowd to start cheering for her; she would have to thank her tag team partner after the match for this. But Kate had to focus on her opponent, speaking of which, the Divine Star would then hear Xenia stating that she and Nate wouldn't achieve their goals. "So you're saying it's impossible. Well, do you know what Gods and Heroes do? They accomplish the impossible, it what sets us apart from the rest. You of all people should know that." said Kate in response as she threw the chop right at Xenia's chest and saw the painful expression on her.
Kate was now curious to see how her opponent would react. Would her fellow Goddess throw another shot back at her, turning this into a contest, or would she perform a different move? The Divine Star didn't need to wait for long, as she was quickly grabbed and sent to the ropes. Though as she bounced off the ropes and came towards the Goddess, Kate would jump in the air and attempt to strike her with a drop kick instead, hoping to send her opponent down and take control of the match early on.
“I’m well aware of that. But this is one challenge you won’t be able to overcome. Because while we may both be gods, there is still a hierarchy. Just as Zeus stood above the rest of Olympus as the strongest, the Daughters of Athena are the ones who will stand at the top of LAW!”
As Kate came off the rebound, Xenia charged forward to knock her down with shoulder tackle. Before she could make contact though, Kate leapt up and fired off a drop kick. Xenia’s eyes widened as her own momentum limited what she could do in this situation. She tried to twist her body her out of the way as much as she could. It wasn’t much and the drop kick still made contact, but it was enough that Xenia was able to avoid taking the full impact of the attack. As such, Xenia staggered backwards upon getting hit, but she wasn’t taken off of her feet. She soon recovered her balance and fired back with a knee strike aimed at the younger woman’s face.
"Oh, and who ruled before Zeus? Cronus did, and they ruled over everyone. Before him was Ouranos and so forth. Even Zeus himself at times was overthrown. No one is unbeatable, not even us Gods. This is something often repeated in history and mythology!"
As Kate came back from the ropes, she would jump in the air and send her feet forward for a drop kick. The attack connected, but not as well as she wanted it to. Still, it was better than missing and still did a bit of damage. Landing on the canvas, the younger wrestler would perform a kip-up, coming back up to her feet almost instantly. Though almost wasn't good enough, as she got back up, she would be struck with a knee strike. It connected directly with her face, causing her to stagger back a few feet as she was stunned from the attack for a bit.
