Sharing but not caring

This was certainly an unexpected turn of events. Sure, there was a lot of new wrestling talent joining LAW but surely enough the LAW management would have kept their facilities up to date. With more locker rooms under construction due to the influx of new talent, the temporary solution was to have some of the newer wrestling stars to share a locker room. Now, normally this wouldn't be an issue but with the women outnumbering the men by a decent amount, there were bound to be a few unlucky duo who would end up in a less than ideal situation.

This was exactly the case for the duo of Daichi Kazura and newest acquisition Maddie Knox.

Despite his resistance, Daichi was given no room for negotiation and the decision was final. He did not want to get on management's bad side either because he was relatively new to LAW himself. He wanted that big break in his career to achieve his dream to become the best and making enemies from the higher ups wouldn't do him any favours.

"Oh boy...." he said with a heavy sigh, dropping his duffle bag on the bench. Leaning against the locker and burying his face in his hands, he would let out an audible groan while shaking his head. "This cannot be happening! I can't believe they're making me share a locker room with a new female wrestler! Okay okay just...calm down! It's no big deal. We're just sharing a locker room that's it. For a co-ed wrestling promotion, this should be normal. Plus, it's only temporary so, it's fine...really!" he said, shaking his head and straightening himself up, before nodding to himself with a his fist clenched.

Breathing in and out to calm his nerves, he would begin to unzip his bag and then open a locker cabinet. Maddie still wasn't here so perhaps it would be the perfect situation to put his belongings in and quickly leave before getting in the awkward situation of meeting her here. He figured she would have been already told by management about the change but even so, he would prefer not to run-in with his new locker-room mate!

Opening the locker, he would start putting his belongings in.

The back hallways of the LAW arena were a maze, and
was in no mood to play explorer. A crumpled scrap of paper with the receptionist’s chicken-scratch directions was balled up in her manicured hand, and she glared at it like it had personally wronged her.

“Left at catering, right past the laundry, third door on the—ugh.” She groaned and shoved it into her gym bag. This wasn’t how a Knox was supposed to be treated. Legacy, pedigree, The Golden Girl! …and she was stuck navigating hallways like some rookie on her first day. Worse yet, the idea of sharing a public locker room with the masses? It soured her mood completely. She was owed a private space to herself.

Her sneakers squeaked as she came to an abrupt stop, staring up flatly at the unmissable “LOCKER ROOM” stenciled across a set of double doors in cracked and slightly peeling paint. What had even been the point of the lybarinthian directions when the room was so obviously labeled? A frustrated huff escaped her lips as she threw a waft of golden blond hair over her shoulder as she shouldered through the door. The smell of disinfectant and old sweat assaulted her senses immediately, and she wrinkled her nose. Still, she slung her bag onto the nearest bench, muttering under her breath about “budget promotions.”

Then she froze.

A man was already there, halfway shoved into a locker, rooting around. Maddie’s eyes narrowed sharply as she rounded on the man, clenching the strap of her gym bag tightly. “Excuse me?” Her voice carried that practiced mix of disgust and disbelief. “What exactly do you think you’re doing here?”

She gestured vaguely toward with a flippant gesture of her hand, almost like she was shooing him away. “Don’t tell me you are just here pawing through people’s stuff?”

Maddie planted her feet, giving her hips a pronounced thrust to one side, sour expression deepening. She had just come from a workout, hair tied back and still damp with sweat, every muscle in her body screaming for a hot shower. And now this? A stranger in her space. Legacy or not, it was all the excuse she needed to let her irritation bubble over.

“Well,” she snapped, tilting her head with a smug little smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “I hope you’ve got an explanation for being in the women's locker room like some creepy little perv, because unless you work maintenance, you’re about two seconds away from me calling security.” She shrugged off the strap of her gym bag, letting it hand from her clenched fist, daring this hobo or whoever he was to try his luck.

This was perhaps a perfect place to put photos of your family, something to remind ones self of home, something personal. However, Daichi never had a family. He was brought up in an orphanage but that never let him down, at least on the surface. He would always be all smiles, cheerful and see the best in people. Of course, life was tough with a parent but his orphanage was his home- that is until he joined LAW. He would place a photo of himself along with the other orphans the day he was going to leave, a reminder of his roots. Of course, he placed other stuff too like his toiletries, smartwatch etc. but a sudden voice would startle him.

"AIYE!" he shrieked, causing him to jerk up and cause the top of his head to bump against the inside roof of the locker. "Ow, Ow, Ow, Owwww" he would quickly move his head out and start rubbing the top of his head in pain, ignoring whatever else the woman had to say. That is- until she accused him of being a pervert and calling security. "G-Gomenasai [S-Sorry]" he would say, gently bowing to her while still rubbing the top of his head to ease the pain.

"Eh-hehehe this is a misunderstanding. I'm really not a pervert or anything like that- honest. I'm actually...well, uh....I guess you weren't told this so um, I guess, this makes it kind of awkward huh? Hehehehe" he said, nervously laughing while scratching the back of his head. "You see, this locker room is well....our shared uh, locker room! So I wasn't actually peeping into your or anyone else's locker but this is mine! and we have to share this semi-private locker until management is finished constructing new ones. Soooo Hi! My name is Daichi and I guess we're...locker mates? Is that the right terminology?" he would say to himself, placing a finger on his chin while seemingly being lost in thought.

Shaking his head to regain his focus, he noticed the light sheen of sweat on the woman before him. "Right! You're....probably looking for the showers right? Eh-hehe, its that way" he would point in the direction of the shower area. "But uh, no hot water unfortunately. They're uh, still fixing that" he said nervously, still trying to find a way out of the awkward situation.

Go-men-side? What?” Maddie repeated, one brow arching high. Sorry wasn’t a word in her normal English vocabulary, so there was no chance it survived the translation. Was he calling her names? Claiming this was the men’s locker room? Whatever it was, she had no clue. But the bowing, though... that at least felt right. She stayed quiet for the moment, holding her fury back, though every muscle was coiled in case she needed to bury her heel in this man’s chest.

“I imagine most perverts would say they’re not perverts.” Her voice dripped with disdain and sarcasim, lips curling into a smirk as her eyes sharpened into a glare. “Not exactly the strongest case you’re making.” The more Daichi fumbled, the less seriously she could take him. In her mind, this was the women’s locker room, which made him either some rookie hazing her or a creep fishing through girls’ things. Either way, she committed his name to memory, assuming it was even real.

When he stammered something about the showers, she cut him off with a sharp huff, wrongly assuming the worst. Maddie didn’t give him the courtesy of finishing before thrusting her sneakered foot out, aiming to plant it square on his chest. She pushed down hard, leaning her weight in to try shoving him back forcefully into the open locker, pinning him there under her weight.

Her tone dropped to a low, silky whisper as she leaned closer. “Here’s how it’s going to be, Daichi. This locker room? It’s mine now. All of it. You’ll find somewhere else to giggle like an idiot and stash your crap until I get one that’s more fitting.” She pressed harder with her foot for emphasis, eyes narrowing to a predatory gleam. “You follow me?”

The first reaction that the young rookie, with anyone new he ever met, was always to try and speak respectfully. To his credit he understood why the blonde woman would become irate at seeing a male digging through the lockers, especially because she was new here too. If anything, it was management's fault for not letting her know. So, like a good person, he would give her the benefit of doubt. Not being used to cruel word of pro-wrestling and being the gullible person that he was, he assumed that all people were nice unless given a chance for them to be rude. In this case, it certainly did not apply.

His nervousness did not help, but he did genuinely attempted to explain the situation to her as best as he could. It could have been the start of a beautiful friendship, even a tag team- until the situation turned much more dire. He felt silly for apologizing in Japanese! With her accent, he should have known she was not from here. Things did not get any better because she didn't seem to be interested in hearing his side of the story but continued to accuse him.

Suddenly, things escalated seemingly out of nowhere. "Right! You're probably looking for the showers-UGHHH!?" he groaned when her foot smacked against his chest and he was forced back into the locker. A loud *SMACK* sound echoed when his back smacked against the steel. "Oww w-what the hell is your problem?! Ughh oww" he grunted when she pressed her foot further into his chest while letting him know that she was not interested in sharing the locker room with him.

"J-just calm down!" he would say, grabbing her foot and then suddenly yanking it downwards, pushing it off his chest. He stood his ground, showing her that he was no weakling that she could push around. "Listen, I don't know what your problem is Ms...whoever you are! But I didn't come up with this decision okay? So I suggest you either take it up with them OR...we settle this matter between ourselves" he would say, now turning quite serious while glaring into her eyes.

She believed the answer was self-evident, but apparently she had to spell it out. As she dug her heel in harder, pressing Daichi against the locker, Madison spoke slowly and loudly as if he were a half-def old man.

“My. Problem. Is. YOU!”

The rush of control was intoxicating, the kind of high Maddie lived for. Having someone literally under her heel was power distilled—and she loved every second of it. But when Daichi suddenly seized her sneaker and yanked her foot away, the moment collapsed in an instant. Maddie stumbled, arms flailing for balance. Her gym bag slipped off her shoulder, hitting the floor with a thud that scattered its contents across the grimy tile.

She wobbled, nearly pitching backward into the benches, before catching herself with a staggered step. The fury in her glare could have burned holes through the man.

Knox. Madison Knox.” The words came out in a growl at his confusion, as if the mere idea of someone not knowing her name was a personal insult. Her fists balled tight, knuckles whitening. Oh no, no, no… I am done being run around this stupid building on wild goose chases, looking for things.”

She looked about ready to swing when a faint hum cut through the tension. Maddie’s phone rattled against the tile, buzzing beside a half-unzipped makeup bag and neatly folded clothes now spread wide open for the world to see. Her eyes went wide, and for the first time in the confrontation, the fire in her voice faltered into a sharp gasp.

There, in the middle of it all, sat the deep crimson lace of a very expensive bra.

In a blur she dropped to her knees, scooping her scattered possessions into her arms like a gambler sweeping chips off a table. “Idiot!” she hissed defensively, huddling over her things as if the pile were suddenly more threatening than the man she’d just been ready to stomp into the ground. One by one, she stuffed the items back into her bag, shielding them from view with her body..

Things were not going to calm down. At this point, he fully expected a fight. It was reinforced by the fact that she would clearly spell out for him that her problem was Daichi himself. He didn't want this, not at all. In fact, he wanted the opposite. A new friend or someone whom he could talk to about matches, strategies or even just general life stuff. Instead, he would have to fight her and perhaps security would get involved. Yeah, break them up before being escorted to the general manager. Hey, at least that would fix the problem of their shared locker room issue?

Regardless, he would not let her bully him like that. Grabbing her foot, he would yank it downwards causing her to stumble backwards and drop her gym bag to the floor. Some of her belongings fell as well. That seemed to piss her off even more, the time was now- the fight he thought was sure to come until the buzzing sound of her phone seemed to shift her focus.

"Huh?" he said in a puzzled look, looking downwards. His face turned red at the sight of that bra and he would quickly look away, pretending he didn't see it. That name though, why did it sound so familiar? Seeing her down on her knees and quickly gathering her belongings from the floor did make him feel bad. It was all too easy for Daichi to get suckered in.

"Sorry, I didn't mean for your stuff to get dropped on the floor. Do you need any help with that?" he offered, trying to amend things from their rocky first impression.

“No,” she snapped, the word sharper than she intended. Almost immediately, her shoulders sagged. “I got it.”

The razor edge of the confrontation dulled into something heavier, more awkward. The fire hadn’t left her, her jaw was still tight, her lips still pressed in a thin line, but crawling around on the dirty floor to gather her things had drained the fight out of her. What lingered now was a simmering frustration, cooled by embarrassment.

The silence stretched uncomfortably. Only their breathing filled the room, mingling with the hollow drip of a leaky pipe somewhere overhead. Madison shoved her clothes back into the bag with more force than necessary, makeup rattling inside as the zipper finally bit shut. She pushed herself upright with a hand braced on the bench, letting out a low sigh that carried more weariness than she’d ever admit out loud. She had worked hard at the gym today and deserved a reward. This sucked.

She stood there for a moment, brushing the feel of tacky grit from her knees, composing herself. Then, almost against her own will, the words slipped out under her breath, just loud enough to be caught if he was listening.

“…really just wanted that damn shower.”

He had heard about women like Maddie. Tsundere was it? Maybe she just needed time to warm up to anyone. She was new here, probably new to the country too. She probably had her guard up and perhaps he could not blame her for that. He did appear to be snooping around and really, it was managements fault for not letting her know before hand. His offered to help was quickly refuted and Daichi raised his hands up, signaling that he was okay to back off and let her do her own thing.

"Okayy sure!" he quickly said when she mentioned she could handle picking her own stuff up. Daichi would lean back against the locker, arms folded under his chest as it seemed she did take his advice and had calmed down a bit. When she next spoke, Daichi would smile, not knowing whether she had intended for him to hear that or not.

"Heh wellll! If you had let me finish what I was saying before. *Ahem* I was going to tell you that the shower area is right there! Buuut, there's no hot water for now, they're kind of fixing that" he said still smiling.

"So Ms. Knox, can we start over?" he said, smiling still as he extended his hand towards her for a handshake.

Her weary gaze settled on Daichi, the sight of him still managing to simmer her current frustrations. It seemed as though her explosive volatility, however, had passed. At the mention of the showers, her green eyes shifted in that direction, eyeing the dark, musty corridor. No hot water… She wasn’t about to cap off her afternoon workout with a cold shower. Especially not with this guy lingering just around the corner.

Her ears perked at the formal address, turning back to Daichi to be greeted with an offered hand. She tilted her head curiously, the crease in her brow only slightly evident as she scanned his big smile for intent. After a long moment, she reached out to take his hand delicately, letting him be the one to dictate how gentle the handshake would be.

“Do we have an ETA on the water situation?” Madison grumbled, slipping her hand back once they had exchanged proper pleasantries.
