Another day, another dollar. Something to keep her mind off her.. thoughts. Kalina sighed, as she turned the leaflet in her hand around over and over and over. Flair.
She needed flair to compete in LAW. She looked down at herself, dressed in a brand new shirt, pants and tie, and she didn’t mind it one iota. It was perfect. Why would anyone complain? She mulled the question over.. but Kalina did not linger on it as she caught a glimpse of her opponents.
Huan Lei Brightspring, a professional mma fighter with years of experience. Just a year or so younger than she was, powerfully built and adorned in a blue outfit. She was quite the looker, just the sort of girl she thought she would like.. but Kalina barely acknowledged it other than a small “hnh”.
And the other? Zira Calabero, a fiery woman that was the most energetic looking of the three but records stated that she had actually won over Huan in their fight.. and they were going steady. Her eyes trailed over the muscular figure of the woman, and then looked down at herself.
”Am I.. too bulky?” She asked aloud, to nobody in particular. Shaking her head, she’d move slowly forwards, brushing at her thigh gently. She did notice something..
Those two were together.
So this was a 2v1, she assumed. What woman wouldn’t want to help her partner physically assault another woman? She was sure if she was in Zira or Huan’s place, the second she laid one out, the other would come to her aid.. or maybe they liked that. Since both did beat each other up..
Too much though, Kalina was starting to get a headache. She assumed she wasn’t going to get out of this fight without at the very least, a black eye. She put a painkiller gummy in her pouch, a little “hello kitty” one that she had bought as a joke when landing in Tokyo. She sort of liked it, so she kept it.
She stood up.
Then paused and added two more.
“Maybe.. they’d like to be my friends after this.. oh who am I kidding.. friends aren’t for me now. Not anymore..”
She’d mutter to herself. Anyone watching would presume she was quite barmy, but Kalina sat up, wincing as her phantom pains surged up again at the thoughts curdling up in her head and making her mindset sour. She rubbed at her eyes furiously, and then heard the announcer call for her.
Flair.
What did she need to do that was “flair”?
Kalina groaned. She stepped into the arena without much fanfare- disappointing the crowds and getting boos which she.. expected but it sort of sucked to hear. Even with her lovely hair and massive structure, Kalina looked.. plain as day, dark circles around her eyes and her bowed head making her unremarkable. A nameless face in the crowd.
Withdrawn into her shell.
But as she got into the ring, she had an idea. She saw some of her co-workers pull a pose, and she had one in mind. Leaning against the ropes, she’d arc her back, wink and smile subtly to the camera, a gloved finger on her lip.
Spoiler

Kalina was laden with scars from her time in the military. It almost served to make her quite the intimidating figure, and then..
She gestured into the camera, curling her fingers in an almost-taunt.
“.. Kalina-Ann Maria, clocked in at 8:31 PM. Huan and Zira..
I will clock both of you out at approximately 8:40 PM. Don’t make me wait.”
That was flair, right? It didn’t matter to her.. or so she told herself, but Kalina did want some approval from the crowd so she listened for the cheers.. and they came, slowly. Slowly.. was good.
It was enough.
