“It Fades” - Renee Steinhauser vs Maddy Morgan (D)

Renee was just about to sit on Maddy’s back to lock it in when she suddenly flipped forward and was having her shoulders pinned to the floor. She would try to kick out, and she did, but not before the referee slammed their hand onto the mat for a third time. Renee would sit up and would have her hands on her head. She had this match won but Maddy stole it at the death.

Announcer: “Here is your winner, Maddy Morgan!”

Renee turned around and tried to attack Maddy but the referee, having enough of Renee’s bullshit, actually pushed Renee away and allowed Maddy to leave the ring safely. She tried to fight out of it but the referee kept her trapped long enough that she was already given back her LAW Loserbelt Championship. She was angry that someone that was only signed today defeated a veteran like her. In her mind, it was craziness.

Maddy lay there for a second longer than she probably should have, chest heaving, eyes unfocused as the bell kept ringing. The words barely registered at first.

Her hands slowly came up to her face, fingers trembling. She let out a shaky laugh that sounded half-relief, half-disbelief. “…I— I won?” she muttered to herself, voice cracking. “I won!!” Behind her, Renee exploded to a seated position, hands clutching her head in fury. She spun toward Maddy, ready to pounce, but the referee stepped in immediately, shoving Renee back with both arms.

Renee shouted protests, trying to force her way past, but the official held firm, physically blocking her as another staff member slid the LAW Loserbelt Championship into the ring and handed it back to it’s rightful owner, Renee.

Maddy pushed herself up, immediately paying for it. Her injured leg buckled and she hissed through her teeth, barely catching herself on the ropes. Every step up the ramp was a struggle. She limped badly, jaw clenched, breathing uneven, but she kept moving. Fans could see it all over her face: pain, disbelief, pride, and shock all tangled together.

Backstage, the adrenaline finally started to fade. Maddy leaned against the wall for a second, eyes closed, before forcing herself onward. She disappeared down the hallway, most likely to find and head to the infirmary to get her leg checked out.
