The low sweep from Kurenai connected with a solid, meaty crack against Faelyn’s ankles. The impact jolted through her leg, forcing her knees to buckle for a split second as her balance wavered. A sharp hiss escaped through her gritted teeth, but she planted her foot hard and caught herself almost instantly, thick thighs flexing with raw power.

Faelyn’s eyes narrowed dangerously, lips peeling back in a savage snarl.

“Not this time, you little shit.”

Before Kurenai could scramble back to her feet or roll away, Faelyn stepped forward and drove her right leg forward like a piston. She unleashed a brutal, straight thrust kick directly into the center of Kurenai’s face.

”Crap.”

That muttered word came out of Kurenai’s mouth unbidden, when her sweep had almost no effect on Faelyn. ‘Almost’ being an important word, because while it didn’t trip the woman up or even hurt her significantly, it did succeed in making her madder than she already was, which she’d thought impossible. In her current position, however, it was far from a good thing.

Kurenai scrambled to rise, to back away, to do anything to evade, but she was half-a-heartbeat too slow this time, and she wound up eating Faelyn’s foot for her trouble. The world went all white for a moment, her body ragdolled, and she came down flopping flat on her back, arms and legs spread as if she were trying to make a snow angel.


She grumbled and blinked as galaxies danced across her vision and the scent of blood filled her nostrils, dimly aware of footsteps approaching and a growing sense of dread...
