A Gale Storm Over Ireland: Moira Kilgannon vs. Karen Gale (D)

Moira barely had time to recover before she was sat up. She felt Karen’s arm wrap around her throat as the Maori woman locked in a sleeper. Fortunately for Moira, Karen didn’t have the bodyscissors locked in as well. While Karen was smaller than Moira, she had large python-like biceps and Moira was definitely feeling Karen’s sleeper.

Her arms flailed about as she tried to whack Karen in the face. But arms slowed down as the Irishwoman began to fade. Finally, Moira went limp and slumped against Karen’s stomach. The ref raised her arm and let go. It dropped down to her side.

The crowd had pretty much yelled out three before they noticed Moira had her foot on the bottom rope.

Karen was breathing steadily as she squeezed into the Irishwoman, feeling Moira struggle in her grip. Moira fighting fiercely to get free, her forearms coming close to whacking her in the face as she struggled; slowly but surely, though, Karen felt Moira start to go limp in her grip. Karen almost couldn't believe it as the ref girl began to raise Moira's arm and let it fall. Surely, this couldn't be it? An opponent like Moira Kilgannon wouldn't be put down this easily, would she?

Her answer came when the ref told her to break. It was then that Karen realized that Moira had managed to snag the bottom rope with her leg!

"Clever," Karen breathed, privately quite happy that her foe had managed to avoid being KO'd. She stood back up, grabbing Moira by the head to pull her up as well. Once she did that, she would try to whip Moira across the ring: the moment her redheaded opponent came bouncing back, Karen would be waiting to try to nail her with a vertical suplex!

Moira came to. Her head was throbbing from the crowd stamping their feet. She suddenly found herself being pulled to her feet. Karen then whipped Moira towards the opposite ropes. Moira came charging back and, upon realizing Karen was setting her up for something, her bar fight instincts took over. The Irishwoman lowered her center of mass and attempted to hit Karen with a thunderous spear.

The crowd, Karen noted, was very much on Moira's side. She had expected nothing else, given that Moira was the more established wrestler here. All the same, Karen hoped to make a good enough impression that hopefully they would someday be doing the same for her. To get there, though, she would first have to hold her own against Moira: win or lose, she needed to prove that she could hang in the ring with her.

As she whipped Moira towards the ropes, Karen broke into a charge, ready to nail the Irish girl with a brutal vertical suplex the moment she bounced back. Moira, however, surprised her by diving low at the last second, driving her shoulder hard into the Maori girl's abs! "AAAAUGH!" Karen gasped as the blow knocked her off her feet, sending her crashing onto her back with the Irishwoman on top.

Moira felt a rush of adrenaline when she took Karen down onto her back. Barfight-mode Moira was activated and she proceeded to ground and pound Karen with a flurry of blows. The ref started counting and eventually pulled Moira off of her. Moira raised her fist and let out a roar. She then went to the corner and cocked her fist back ”Erin go bragh!!”. Moira waited for Karen to get to her feet, charged, and leapt in the air to hit her with the Kilgannon Cannon (superman punch).

Karen gasped as she crashed hard onto her back, the other girl's knees pressed down on her shoulders. She forced open one eye, and saw Moira now straddling her, a savage grin on her face. Karen's instincts kicked in, and she raised her arms to block; she did so half a second too late, one fist grazing her temple. Grunting in pain, she nonetheless managed to shield the rest of the Irishwoman's flurry of blows until the ref finally forced her off.

Cursing under her breath, Karen rolled back up to her feet. Now she was mad. Even as she got back up to charge back at Moira, the Irishwoman came literally flying at her, sending a punch thundering into her cheek. The blow made Karen feel like she had just left her body behind; up briefly became down as the Maori girl went toppling onto her back, utterly dazed by Moira's brutal punch.

The adrenaline was flowing through Moira's veins. She kipped up to her feet and then let out a banshee scream. Moira went charging for the ropes again and, upon rebounding, charged towards Karen. When she got to her, Moira jumped and raised her knee, attempting to nail Karen with a running knee strike as she sat up. If successful, Moira would go for a pin.

Stars were dancing across Karen's vision as she lay on her back. With a groan, she clutched the side of her head where Moira's brutal rocket punch had just slammed into her. Her entire head felt like it had nearly been knocked off her shoulders: she had known Moira was strong, but this kind of striking power wasn't what she had expected. She flailed on the mat, trying to roll over, trying to will her body to respond, but her movements were slow and sluggish. The most she managed to do was sit up.

And then Karen heard what could only be described as a banshee scream-- deep, primal, and terrifying. And then Moira was charging at her, lunging forwards with her lower knee extended. Karen didn't have time to dodge or block: Moira's knee collided hard with her skull like a runaway freight train. This time, Karen's vision went white, and she toppled onto her back in a dazed sprawl like a marionette with its strings cut, seemingly knocked out by the brutal blow.

The impact of Moira's running knee devastated Karen. Moira hit her with such force that she kept going through her and landed well past Karen. Moira rolled and then turned around. She crawled towards Karen, her face red hot with rage. Moira pressed her chest atop Karen's and used her arms to hold down Karen for the pin. The ref counted.

A cry of pained defiance erupted from Karen's lips as, suddenly, her entire body jolted to the side, narrowly getting a shoulder up. The crowd was on the edge of their seat at this point; a lot of them had thought Karen had been done after taking that brutal running knee strike to the skull; apparently, though, the Maori contender wasn't done yet, not by a long shot.
