“I’m just getting started!” The drop kick found its mark and was successful in knocking the target down but it was far too early to celebrate. The match had only just started after all. Liz wouldn’t stay down for long so Sylar needed to press the advantage while he could. A top rope or springboard maneuver would take too much set up to be worth it at this stage in the match so Sylar would keep things simple with an standing elbow drop to the gut of his downed opponent.

Lizbeth had taken part in some wrestling matches along her previous career and one thing she had learnt about it that didn’t feature on TV was how important the first minutes were. Often the wrestlers who go all out from the very beginning have a double disadvantage: the first one being running out of steam soon and the second being that they don’t get some insight on how their rivals worked. The redhead was careful not to fall on this mistake and was now learning what Sylar was capable of. The man had great athleticism as it showed in how easily he executed a dropkick. Then he had swiftness as it showed in how he was capable of recovering and executing an elbow drop on Liz before the bigger woman could regain her footing. Liz’s muscular midsection took the blunt of the hit but this left the redhead grunting in pain and without air for some precious seconds that Sylar could surely use to her favor.

The grunt of pain that escaped his opponent when his elbow came down on her gut indicated that it was effective. She was gasping for air and Sylar was about to make it more difficult for her. He pulled Liz up to a seated position and kneeled behind her before he wrapped his arms around her neck to apply a dragon sleeper hold.

Sylar had made a pretty damn good job in taking the initiative and then maintaining momentum, using Lizbeth’s biggest disadvantage against her. Seeing how the redhead took some time to recover given her big frame it gave some time for the man to capitalize and follow up and that was exactly what he did. Just after getting hit by a powerful dropkick and then an elbow drop, Liz was getting a rough time getting back up and when she noticed Sylar setting her sitting on the canvas she knew what was coming. She had just enough time to fill her lungs with air before Sylar kneeled behind her and locked a dragon sleeper hold.

Each second was precious now that Evelyn’s oxygen flow was interrupted. The first thing the woman did was checking how strong the hold was by tugging against Sylar’s arms. It looked quite sturdy but the redhead was a strong one and was confident in her being able to force a release. That, however, would have a big cost in terms of energy so Lizbeth decided for some less refined tactic and drew a couple elbows back to hit against Sylar’s side of his midsection and see if his grip faltered. It was time to test how good his pain endurance was.

Sylar locked the dragon sleeper in tight. Truthfully it seemed very unlikely that the hold would actually put his opponent to sleep this early in the match, but that wasn’t necessarily his goal here. The purpose of the hold was to wear his opponent down and every second she spent in it sapped her strength and made her more vulnerable.

Of course, Liz wasn’t going to go down without a fight. She drove a series of elbows into his midsection. Each strike caused him to wince in pain. He did his best to keep the hold on despite the pain but after the fourth elbow strike his grip began to loosen involuntarily.

Sylar showed great resourcefulness in creating an opening for a dragon sleeper hold to be locked and added to his strength the hold could easily help tip the scales in his favor a bit. Underestimating the threat of that choking submission hold was something Liz wouldn’t fall for so she quickly tried what she thought was the easiest of any possible escape maneuver and started driving her elbow against the man’s midsection with the hopes of making him drop the hold. The man was resisting the redhead’s strikes with resilience, but Liz could feel her strength prevailing and him wincing after each hit. Finally after the fourth elbow strike Liz felt his grip faltering.

Only one more hit was what was needed to break the hold. Just when her fifth elbow impacted against his midsection Liz showed that she could have swiftness and speed if she needed it and quickly transitioned kneeling behind Sylar. “That was a good hold, but let me show you how it’s done!” There was no mocking in her voice but real challenge. Sylar had shown her he was a worthy opponent and she wanted to do the same. She quickly locked a dragon sleeper hold but instead of remaining there she pressed backwards so she would fall on the mat with Sylar on top of her, which would allow her powerful legs to wrap around his waist, adding more crushing to the move.

After the fourth elbow weakened the hold, the fifth one broke it completely as Sylar clutched his stomach in pain. Once she was free Liz moved was surprising swiftness and to his surprise she put him in a dragon sleeper of her own!

“Hrgk!” It was amazing how quickly the tables had turned. Not only had Sylar fallen victim to the very hold that he had put his opponent in just moments before, but Liz took it a step further by falling backwards on her back and wrapping her legs around him to add more pressure while restricting his means of escape. The ropes were too far away for him to grab and he wasn’t sure if he could power out of her grip. Even if he could it would likely cost him a lot of energy to do so and put him at a disadvantage. So Sylar’s best bet was to do the same thing Liz did and drive his elbow into the side of her midsection until she let go.
