Love is in the Stars? (for CaptainL)

Lyra would be lying if she said she wasn’t feeling any butterflies flutter inside of her. She may have been naturally calm about everything, but this moment that Sanae and her were sharing made it all the more clear that there is a direction to work this out in. Lyra couldn’t believe what was happening, but she felt really happy around the idol and really wanted this to work out. It may me a slow start right now, but hopefully, if both were willing to see it through to the very end, they could make this possible relationship work. Lyra swallowed a lump in her throat as she sat back in her seat blushing like crazy.

“I’m so glad the lights are about to go down. I’m blushing like mad here,” Lyra joked as she giggled a little sending her into some frantic laughing and she had to cover her mouth.

This is a rush of enjoyment that she had hoped never end for her and Sanae.

At Lyra's comment, Sanae couldn't help but giggle. But at the same time, she knew how true it was. She, too, was blushing hard. This was all so new to her, and so unfamiliar. She wasn't quite sure if she felt ready for it, and she was hesitant to go any further - yet at the same time, she didn't want to look back, either. She was enjoying spending time with Lyra. Even just being around her made her feel a tingly sensation that she couldn't quite shake, and yet at the same time she didn't want to shake it off when it felt as good as it did. But should she feel that way? Was she rushing into things? Just the fact that she was laughing so hard at Lyra's jokes made her feel like the bond between them was special. And yet, she still couldn't help but feel like she barely knew her.

But Sanae sucked in a breath and sank against her seat. Dwelling on these things, she knew, wouldn't help anyone. She was having fun. She was enjoying this moment, and there was no use in denying herself what made her happy. Her hand never strayed far from Lyra's. When she held onto it, she felt a sense of warmth and reassurance run through her - it told her that Lyra was there, that she cared, that she didn't need to worry. She could linger in that feeling and have faith that all of this would work out. And now, as the movie began to start and she leaned closer against Lyra's side, she squeezed her hand a little tighter - she might as well enjoy it while she could. There was no use in thinking too hard and letting these moments slip her by.

"By the way..." she whispered softly to Lyra as the projector started up, "I should thank you. I was hoping to see this movie some time..."

Lyra blushed hard as Sanae leaned in closer and held her hand firmly as her stomach was ruffling with so many butterflies. The lights had dimmed and some trailers were about to show as Lyra just focused on eating her popcorn. The movie would start off slow and the fortune teller had long forgotten about the date as the movie was genuinely interesting to her. It was a mix of action and romance, but the ratio was admittedly 80/20 with heavy explosions and the dialogue was in all Japanese. Thankfully, Lyra was a frequent sub and dub watcher so she understood what was being said on the screen without subtitles.

She looked over occasionally seeing Sanae right up near her and even leaning in to hold her arm. Lyra blushed even more as she turned back to watching the movie. She didn’t even know if they were moving too fast, but at least the idol was happy to be by her side. The universe had foretold her a bright future for these two and they even had a shipping name by fans. Syra. It honestly had a nice ring to it.

When Sanae sat next to Lyra, thinking about where their paths had taken them and the uncertainties that lay on the horizon, she couldn't help but feel a little nervous. There was a part of her that felt good around Lyra, that made her want to get closer to her - she didn't know why it was there, but she felt it nonetheless, and its pull was hard for her to deny. But it still made her blush and hesitate. It was all so new to her, and she had only just begun to explore it further and to see where it might lead. Did it really mean anything, she asked herself? Was it all in her head? Should she be putting too much thought into it, and was she doing too much too quickly?

As long as she was alone in her head, in a dark room by Lyra's side, Sanae's mind could wander, and it could keep digging up these questions. But when the movie started, she could step away from her concerns for a little while. Lost in the action on screen, she quickly forgot about her worries and hesitations tying her down to her everyday life. She leaned in close to the screen with watchful eyes, cheering at every heroic moment. When things grew tense, she gasped and sank back in her seat, her hand squeezing tighter around Lyra's out of instinct as she clung to her for support. And in the slower, more romantic scenes, she couldn't help but feel herself drifting a little closer to Lyra, their shoulders brushing ever so slightly against one another. For the slightest fraction of a second, the thought ran through Sanae's mind - what if it was her and Lyra, up on the screen?

By the time the credits rolled and the viewers began to file out, the nervousness Sanae showed heading into the theater had all but been forgotten. With a grin on her face, she sat up straighter in her seat. "Whew! That was awesome! What'd you think, Lyra?" she asked, turning back to her date.

Lyra and Sanae came out of the movie theater as they would be surrounded by happy fans that really enjoyed the movie. For being a casual fan when it comes to watching anime, Lyra had to wonder if this movie would explore a new franchise. Sanae seemed to really love it and she was glad that they were able to both enjoy themselves tonight. Sanae asked Lyra what she thought and Lyra pondered about her thoughts on the movie.

“It was very fast-paced, but it’s to be expected for an action movie. I forgot that anime characters were more dynamic than most animated characters,” Lyra replied to the green-haired idol.

Lyra flagged down a taxi for the both them as she opened the yellow car door for her date in order for her to step inside. She followed suit and paid the fare asking the driver to drop them off at the nearest diner.

Sanae chuckled to herself as she listened to Lyra's thoughts. As the two of them exited the theater, she drifted close to her side. "Yeah, I know there's a few things we do differently compared to animation from where you're from. I imagine it was probably easier to follow if you've watched the series...still, the fans seemed to enjoy it!" Lyra didn't seem quite as enthused as Sanae was, but that was okay. As long as the two got to share in each others' company, that meant it was a success.

In fact, as the two proceeded to the sidewalk, Sanae's hand brushed against Lyra's as it swung at her side. At first, the sudden sensation of Lyra's skin against her own caused her face to light up in a blush. It felt warm - it felt inviting. She wanted more of it. Sanae's hand unfurled, and her fingers clasped around Lyra's own. She blushed even harder when she realized she was taking things a step further when it came to how willing they were to get close to one another. But she couldn't deny that being next to Lyra, and holding her hand, made her feel more connected to her than ever before. Something about it just felt right, and that made her smile grow a little wider.

To Sanae, she and Lyra might as well have been holding hands for an eternity. But as soon as the taxi arrived, her face went a bright red, and she realized how conspicuous the two of them must have looked, holding hands in public. She didn't know how long it had been for, but she let her go just then, clearing her throat. "S-Sorry," she muttered under her breath. And yet, Lyra hadn't fought it...

She was still blushing and adjusting her scarf to hide her face as she and Lyra got into the cab, looking back and forth just to confirm that she didn't recognize anyone who could have seen them. For a moment, she stayed staring out the window, trying to lose herself in the scenery passing by enough to forget about how awkward this had been. She couldn't help but worry about what Lyra thought, too - was she going too fast, and would that make her uncomfortable? But she soon shook herself out of that, clearing her throat and looking back at Lyra. She just had to change the subject, she thought.

"Uh...have any thoughts as to what you might like for dinner?" she asked. "Or do you think we should look at the menu first?"

Lyra had been calm for the car ride and she looked out the window as the taxi would get caught in evening traffic. Lots of people coming home from the office or enjoying the night in the town like they did just now at the movie. She did notice Sanae trying to get bolder and she looked really cute trying to hide her blush. Lyra blushed herself before settling into Sanae’s side and fidgeting a little bit herself. She turned to the idol and put on a friendly smile.

“I understand….it must be a new experience…trying to date. Like I said, it’s my first time on a date with another woman. I understand you are also under a lot of pressure trying to hide yourself from the press. But…I can tell the universe will take care of us. You only need to concern yourself enjoying this date. I….want this to work. Sanae…..you’re beautiful….which I’m sure you hear a lot from fans, but….I mean it wholeheartedly. I should be the one who is absolutely nervous. I’m dating a singer….a popular one at that. But….I don’t care what the press might think. I am determined to make this work with you. Because….I like you….a lot,” Lyra championed as she blushed thinking she sounded a bit too mushy and awkward.

"O-Oh..!" When she heard what Lyra had to say, Sanae's face could only light up with an even brighter blush. She glanced back at the fortune teller for just a brief moment, and when she did, she was reminded of just how close they had come to one another - Lyra's body draped against her side, the warmth radiating between them, the comfortable pressure of her weight going slack against her shoulder. She'd almost forgotten about how daring it was for her. This was all so new, so unfamiliar - she'd let the movie distract herself from how close she was letting herself grow to another person, but now that she had time to breathe after the fact, it had hit her how different this was from anything she had had before. And yet...just because it was different didn't mean it was bad. Sanae felt comforted and reassured by this feeling, as a matter of fact. Something about it just felt right, and it told her she didn't have anything to fear. She'd be okay. It would work out - if it made her feel this good, it couldn't be wrong.

It felt so good, in fact, that Sanae was beginning to feel she could be bolder. She leaned in a little closer to Lyra, her eyes resting on hers. When she gazed longingly into those eyes, she could feel her smile growing just a little wider. She extended her hand over to rest it gently on Lyra's thigh - but then, she flinched, drawing back and looking off as her face grew red, and she buried herself even deeper in her scarf. She had to remind herself that this was just a trial run. She couldn't rush these things.

And yet...the way Lyra was talking about it, this didn't feel like it was only a trial run. Her words were sincere. Sanae listened to each word, nodding her head. Maybe Lyra was right. Maybe she was worrying too much - so far, she'd enjoyed herself the most when she put her hesitations aside, and really let herself savor the moments they shared. Lyra knew everything would work out. She had to trust her. And she could trust what she said next - something that made her heart beat faster in her chest, as a warmth ran over her.

"O-Oh, Lyra..." she said, slowly turning back to look at her. "Believe me when I say this, that's...the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me, I think..." she nodded her head. "I've never really...been on a date like this myself, either. I'm still young, you know? I've never really had the opportunity. And I've never found anyone who felt right, but...I don't know what it is, but something about this feels right." She drifted a little closer to Lyra, brushing her shoulder up against hers. "I'm sorry if I worry too much...I really should let go of that, huh?"

Sanae had almost forgotten how awkward she felt, doing all of this in public. The rest of the world no longer mattered. Lyra cared. Lyra was willing to open her heart to her - and she wanted to accept that, no matter what anyone thought. She had to set all that aside. Moments like this didn't come every day, and she had to cherish them.

Lyra smiled down on Sanae as she knew the idol wanted to get closer, but she was afraid of going faster than she was comfortable with. Lyra didn’t care, though. She just wanted Sanae to fill like she was having fun and enjoying spent time with each other. This didn’t feel like a trial run, but Lyra didn’t want Sanae to feel like they had to move in with each other so soon either. They had all the time in the world for the future and Lyra had an idea that could calm Sanae’s nerves.

“We could try a second date more in your environment. I know you have a concert in Kyoto coming up. I would love to attend,” Lyra suggested.

Sure, it wasn’t really a face-to-face date, but Lyra wanted to support Sanae on her true passion of being an idol. Maybe being around her fans and lover would get her more in tune with their relationship and curb her worries.
