In an instant, they were on the mat, Kyo scoring a classic takedown on Valerie. If this were classic amateur wrestling, that might have been a point-- but then, amateur wrestling was more Valerie's expertise than his.

A far that Valerie was keen to remind him of when the powerful blonde arrested her fall by just dropping to one knee. A second later, the back of his head was grabbed, and his world went upside down as Valerie just as quickly flipped him over her shoulder. Down he went, crashing down onto his back, flipped down in an excellently manouvered counter.

He couldn't stay down here, and didn't intend to. Just as quickly, his legs shot up, hoping to clamp his thighs around Valley's head. Without stopping to worry about how awkard a hold this might end up being, he would then try to yank hard with his legs, hoping to flip Valley in turn onto her back, grabbing one of her legs to try to fold her up in a quick pinfall!

Kyo’s technical skills were on point today - Valerie had gone against some of the best amateur wrestlers in Japan before she came to LAW, and she could list the ones who could’ve pulled a move like that on her on one hand. She couldn't lost points off that, thankfully, but his being able to outmaneuver her was a bad sign, regardless. She needed to reverse those fortunes, and fast.

That was the idea when she pulled him forward and dropped him on backside, gaining a momentary advantage - or so she thought. That notion was corrected when she moved in with open arms, only to find Kyo’s legs waited for her, reaching her up and pulled her forward. Her leg was gripped, she was tucked in tight, and she found herself in a pinning predicament.

”1…!”

The referee wasn’t wasting anytime, and neither was Valerie. She was close to bringing her hand down a second time when Valerie kicked out and flopped on her back, breaking free. She pushed up to her feet, spun about, and immediately went on the attack again, closing the distance, raising her leg, and trying to ram her heel into his face with a stiff Big Boot, hoping it would be a stop to his momentum.

Kyo didn't try to think about the fact that the way they were currently flipped over, he was now for all intents and purposes sitting his his crotch in Valerie's face. He focused only on maintaining the pin, keeping one of Valerie's legs tucked under his armpit, bracing himself in case the powerful blonde shifted her weight to throw him off.

She didn't do that; instead, her other leg suddenly came whistling up. Kyo cursed, and tried to dodge too late as Valerie's boot smacked hard into his forehead. "ARGH!" he grunted as the blow made him release Valerie, sending him rolling off of her, clutching his forehead as he furiously blinked to get his vision back in focus...

Valerie was also not thinking about the fact that Kyo’s crotch had been in her face a moment ago. Not thinking about it with extreme prejudice. At this particular moment, she had far more important things to focus on, anyway - like, say, what to do with Kyo while she had a small moment of opportunity to work with.

Valerie was running short on time, ideas, and most importantly, stamina, so she decided her best play was to follow the KISS method. She moved in fast, ducked low, and wrapped her arms around his thighs, pulling them in tight against her chest. With a mighty yell of exertion, she rose up, fell forward, attempted to ram his back into the canvas with her weight on top of him, going for a sharp spinebuster.

Kyo's forehead was ringing slightly after taking that crack across the skull from Valerie's boot. The blow and sent him spinning backwards, blinking furiously through the haze in his vision. This, he knew, was a bad thing, as even with a few seconds of recovery time, Valerie could significantly turn things around again.

He was proven right when he felt Valerie's arms wrap around his thighs; the next thing Kyo knew he was being lifted up before he was slammed back-first against the mat like a sack of meat, the impact causing him to gasp loudly as he was left sprawled on his back, his legs still in Valerie's grip. Not good, he thought gingerly, not good at all...

Kyo was, by no definition, a small man, but he wasn’t a giant by any means, either. If Valerie had to guess, the two of them were about equal in overall size - she was a little shorter, but had more bulk, which he made up for in height. She had slammed people in her weight class before, even those in the heavyweight class. She was more than physically capable of pulling it off.

So it was a testament to just how worn out she was that slamming Kyo like that took the wind clean out of her, almost as bad as if she’d taken the move herself. She let out an Amazon’s war cry at the exertion, then wound up lying there after the impact, sagging and seething.

”Get up.” She muttered under her breath after a moment, more speaking to herself than him. ”Come on, come on.”

Valerie pressed against his chest, began to rise, and grabbed him head to force him up along with her. As soon as he was up and standing, she lashed out with a fierce chop to his chest, then another, and another on top of that, as she tried to drive him towards the nearest corner with the punishing blows.

"Get up."

At first, Kyo had thought Valerie was directing that comment to him-- a threat, no, a demand that he stand up and face her again. Given how much his back was throbbing in pain, however, he had no idea how well he would have been able to meet that request. No sooner had he had that thought, though, when his opponent forcefully grabbed onto his head, yanking him to his feet; his body, stumbling and confused, followed upright after it.

A forearm chop came whistling out of nowhere, landing with a stinging blow across his chest. He gasped, doubling over, before another chop landed, and another, each blow leaving a red welt across his abs and staggering him back, pushing him slowly but surely towards the corner.

Gritting his teeth, he brought an arm up, moving to bat aside Valerie's arm before swiftly returning the favour, delivering a knife-edge chop to Valerie's chest in return. And if it landed, he would follow up with another, and then another, trying to drive his relentless foe back the other way...

Valerie should’ve been hanging back. Should’ve been shielding. Should’ve been doing anything beside what she was doing right now - trying to take the fight to the man who had just managed to beat her, only a minute or so ago. While he had gotten the better of her there, the onus was still on him to take the fight to her. She could rest up, make him chase after her. Really, she could just leave the ring and force him to waste energy chasing her down until the clock stopped.

But Kyo wouldn’t respect her for doing that. She wouldn’t respect herself. She wasn’t sure which of those two possibilities bothered her more.

Regardless, her path was set, and she took the fight straight to him, lashing out with chop after chop - basic, simple effective, and all she had the energy for at the moment. If she could just work him back, keep the pressure on…

It was a good idea, but unfortunately, that didn’t mean it would work. Instead of falling back and giving way, Kyo planted his feet and returned fire, interrupting her volley and beginning one of his own. The Samurai’s blade was sharp and swift, with each chop cutting deep. Valerie lost one step, then another, and soon she found herself in full retreat as the sound of beaten chest filled the arena.

It was a path that only stopped when she found herself up against the turnbuckle, backing sagging against the pads. She held onto the ropes for support with one hand and covered her chest with the other, trying her best to cover up and halt the assault.

His counter attack was working. One forearm chop, then another, then another and another all slashed hard into Valerie's chest, staggering her, leaving her breathless, forcing her back step by step. Little by little she was pushed into the corner, where she leaned against the turnbuckle, clutching her hurting chest, catching her breath. For a brief second, Kyo relented in his onslaught.

A brief second, that was, until Kyo grabbed the back of her head and pulled her out of the corner, spinning around to clamp an arm around her head in a side headlock. For a few seconds he would be forcing Valerie to breathe shallowly against the side of his abs as he squeezed into her, trying to make her feel as uncomfortable as possible.

That was, until he burst into a running leap, aiming to introduce her face to the mat with a bulldog.

A second, just one second. She just needed a second to breath, damn it.

Valerie had been athletic her entire life, had trained hard since she could walk, and she had always thought that stamina would be her main advantage in the ring. Despite that, it never ceased to amaze her just how much a match could drain her, even over a short period of time. It felt like she’d been running for hours straight.

By the time Kyo drove her against the pads, she was clearly worn out, sagging, and would’ve fallen over if she didn’t have them at her back. Kyo was wise to keep pressing his advantage, too, and he reached down to pull her face down and trap her in a headlock, pressing her face against his abs.

His hard, hot, sweltering abs…

She had little time to enjoy that before he came running forward, leaped up, and brought her face crashing into the canvas with a running bulldog, one that left her flopping on the floor, grabbing her face and hissing in pain. Knowing she needed a breather, she tried to roll away, hoping to get under the ropes and make her way outside before he could catch her.
