Dusting Off: Angela Belti vs. Alaina Sanders-Haines

This ground and pound stuff had never been Angela’s forte, always preferring straight up wrestling - holds, throws, slams, et cetera. Alaina had seemed the same way, at first blush, but it seemed her repertoire was a little deeper than it had first appeared - she mounted and let loose with a barrage as well as anyone, raining them down with rapid succession and pushing through her guard. In this position, at this range, there was little Angela could do to weather the attacks, and more than a few slipped past her guard and left her loopy.

This meant that, when her opponent eased up and moved, there was little she could do to counter as she was lifted up, whirled through the air, and brought down hard on her back for a scoop slam, one that left her hissing and writhing on the mats. The crowd ate it up, too, save for one, notable exception.

”Boooooooooo!”

Her daughter was paying attention, at least. That was nice.

Alaina sent Angela crashing down to the mat and jumped in place while looking out at the crowd. She wanted to give them more, and show that she wasn't intimidated when facing off against a larger wrestler. Alaina yanked Angela up by the arm and stepped towards the ropes looking to whip the big woman right into the ropes! Alaina knew she had momentum on her side, as well as the crowd. She could feel the cheers fueling her as she hoped to continue to stun the big grappler.

Alaina hoped to brace herself and catch Angela while she ran back at her lifting and spinning to send her to the mat with a powerslam or so that was the plan at least....

Angela knew this game well. Alaina’s goal was to wear down her opponent with an unrelenting stream of powerful offense - go from one crushing attack to the next, never relenting, never easing up, until she’d worn her opponent down into nothing. Giving someone more than they could handle, running them over like a freight train.

She knew the tactics. She should’ve - they were her playbook, too.

That was why she knew the importance of putting a stop to this snowball before it grew too big to handle, and as Alaina sent her off running to the ropes, she saw her opportunity. She came running back after the pounce, saw her opponent readying herself for the counter, and hit the break, stopping short of her opponent’s grasp - but, most importantly, not outside of her own striking range.

With crucial timing, Angela shot her leg up in a quick snap kick, looking to hit Alaina square on the chest with the tip of her boot. Not much, but enough to stagger her, create some breathing room, and maybe kick off a comeback.

Alaina was static as Angela came running back and the running boot to the chest worked! Alaina reared back and stumbled a few steps. She stayed up but Angela was successful in creating a small window of opportunity to act. Alaina knew she had to try to brace herself, preparing for what was to come however the larger grappler looked like she was going to come at Alaina furiously!

The kick landed clean, a good sign that Angela had hit it on the button, and you only needed to look at Alaina’s reaction if you had any more doubts on that. The Amazon went reeling from the blow, shot up straight, vulnerable and open to just about anything that La Donna Perfetta could’ve hit her with.

She had a few ideas, too, but one appealed to her more than the others.

Angela pressed her fingers to her lips and let loose with a high-pitched whistle, drawing Desdemona’s attention to the ring, before she dashed and went for the kill. Ducking down, she placed her head under Alaina’s shoulder, wrapped an arm around her waist to pull her in tight, then lifted her up, arched her back, and brought her flying over with a Northern Light Suplex that came straight off the videos, quick and crisp. She’d bridge out and hold the move for the pinfall after, and while she doubted it would be enough for a three count, that wasn’t the point - it was all about keeping the pressure up, forcing her opponent to waste energy on escaping after such a hard impact.

Alaina was catching herself and steadying when Angela moved forward and grabbed her. Alaina lift her fist high, looking to club Angela's upper back but before she could strike she was lift up, flipping over for a hard landing on the mat!

"UGH!"

Alaina groaned as she slammed down and the official slid in to place to start the count.

"ONE!"

Alaina thrust hard to the side at the one count to break the pin and hopefully force Angela off balance enough for her to roll away a short distance to give Alaina the breathing room to rise back to her feet.

Angela had always been proud of her Northern Lights Suplex, thinking it was one of the better-executed moves in her toolkit. So many rookies did the move poorly, either not putting enough torque into their throw or not holding it for the pinfall. You needed a good, solid core to really push it through, and, thankfully, she had that in spades.

Enough to get the win on a decorated wrestler like Alaina? No. But a good start.

Her attack left the Amazon reeling, and she was keen to pour on the pressure. Angela rolled after her opponent as she moved away, coming to a stop just in front of her, and reached over to grab her by the head with both hands. She rose to her feet, dragging Alaina with her, as let loose with a fierce knife edge chop to her opponent’s chest the moment they were both upright, looking to knock her into the nearest corner.

Angela was back on top of Alaina pulling her up to her feet before Alaina could even push herself up, catching Alaina by surprise.

The chop smashed her chest and Alaina howled stumbling back but catching herself. If Angela thought she was going to just muscle around the smaller Alaina she was mistaken as the amazon stepped forward swinging her hand around to respond with a chop of her own!

Tighten the hand. Step forward. Put your back into it. Have your momentum behind the blow.

It might have seemed like a simple thing, but Angela had been working on her chops for years, and it all paid off in the end. She wasn’t that much of a striker, but this? This was something she could do well.

And the same thing applied to Alaina, it seemed, because she responded in kind, with every bit of the same force she’d been given.

Angela staggered back, gritting her teeth as she seethed from the stinging blow. She pushed through it, knowing she had to retaliate, and returned fire with another chop, aiming for the same spot with even more bite than before.

"Oomph!" Alaina groaned as she stumbled about on limp legs, recovering and staying steady. "Not gonna lose, I don't care how much bigger you are! Yaaaah!" Alaina shouted as she stepped back up, swinging her arms and whole torso as she put everything into another chop at Angela determined not to let the other woman feel like this was an easy win because she was bigger!
