Troy had been hyped all day, from the moment he learned who he and Betsy would be taking on tonight. The name Bright was’t one he ever took lightly. He’d heard it often when he was growing up, a legend of wrestling. While Cassius Bright wasn’t the only man he’d aspired to in his professional career, it was definitely near the top, and he’d taken more than a few cues from the man in his own style, even imagined what it would be like to take him on.
That would be a dream match, but one that wasn’t going to happen. This, however, was the next best thing - his children. That was the great thing about wrestling, something that separated it from other sports. It was a generational affair, something that often flowed down a family tree, and having the chance to take on the progeny of a legend was something any wrestler worth his salt would jump at. It was enough to put a little extra pep in his step, as he and Betsy made their way down to the ring, with their music blaring in the background.

Betsy’s honeyed voice snapped him back to reality as they made their way down to the ring, and he looked back to his wife with a small, knowing smile. That was, what, the third time she’d had to snap him out today? He couldn't help it. They’d told him who he would be facing this morning, and the idea had stuck with him ever since. He’d even wanted to put on some more traditional wrestling gear for the match, but he couldn't find anything in his size with the time they had. The jeans would have to do.
”I’m just a little jazzed, is all.” He kept his head up, chest straight, trying to exude some poise as they walked to counteract her hyperactive bouncing. ”Important day.”
She snickered, then dipped to the side and bounced her hips against his, giving him enough force to make him take a single step off path. ”Uh-huh. Don’t get too excited, champ, your hero might be watching.”
Troy just brushed it off with a smile and a nod. Yeah, Betsy was teasing, but she might not have been wrong. He wasn’t sure why that thought exited him, but it did.
He let that good mood stick with him as he made his way into the ring, as he and Betsy waved to the crowd on the way to their corner. He took deep breaths all the way there, doing his best calm his nerves. No pressure, no pressure.
