Tournament and event threads

Unread post by Noob »

Alright, this is a bit of a ranty post so if ya ain't into that you've been warned.

Lemme just preface this all by saying I totally understand that things happen, life happens, people get busy, and there are a slew of other things that can happen. Anyways here goes.

If you are a part of an event or a tournament you should understand that other people are waiting on your match and want it to finish. The whole event is not just for you. I have seen far to many threads slowed down or stopped and that really puts a dent on an event. Honestly it just isn't fair to everyone else involved, especially the people who planned the whole thing and everyone else excited about it.

If you're going to join an event you should really commit to making posting to that close to the top of your posting priorities. I get that there are plenty of reasons for things no to happen, but if you're gonna be leaving for a while or not terribly active you should tell people, or ya know...maybe if you can't commit to posting frequently then you shouldn't have joined the event. It's kinda messed up to join something and then just not post to it, then have people bug ya, and still just lead people on.

Most people totally understand if you get busy or delays happen, but it's nice to know that it is happening. What's not ok is to just leave everyone hanging on these things and even worse if it appears you just lost interest because you're not going to win.

Anyways this kinda can be boiled down to this is all a two player game and don't be an ass. But yeah this has been on my mind so now it's here.

I wanna echo these thoughts and say that I agree with noob on all his points.

I want to stress that the success of events hinges upon people participating and prioritizing those threads. Asking to join an event should come with an implicit understanding and agreement that you're trying to post to it when possible even if only for the purpose of keeping things going. And it looks really sketchy when anyone chooses to stop posting or dramatically slow down their post frequency to an event threads whilst posting rapidly to others. Or when someone drops off the face of the Earth without warning or giving a heads up beforehand.

While I get some people have kinda pushed it with delays, I only had like two weeks to finish my thread in the middle tourney. So maybe we shouldn't have so many tournaments. We make them connected to the belts and that makes everyone want to join.

Less tournaments = More time

Oh I'm not complaining about the amount of time anyone had to finish things. Nor did I want to call out anyone in particular. I'm complaining about people that don't post for a while, but post to other stuff frequently, especially if everyone else is eager to get shit done. There are also some people who just stop posting or don't post entirely which has thrown wrenches into my plans at points and obviously in others when a match just stops. It's one thing if this happens for a reason but more often than not it's either just someone disappearing, or there's no reason given. Certain times it just appears that certain people get bored with posts they ain't winning which ain't cool in general, especially not for an event where other people are involved and want the even to go off well.

TLDR: The amount of time people have has nothing to do with it, it's the fact that some people just don't post frequently or at all which ruins things for the rest of us

When asked about this most people wanted tournaments, since its one of the best ways to decide an inaugural champion.

To add to that, if you don't have the time then don't participate in the event. Also we have like 3 belts...3 tournaments for them. And it appeared people wanted that. either way that wasn't the point

That's your opinion and not the point of the thread. if people want tourneys we should do them, people should just be careful about just joining them (Which is the point of this thread.)

There's only 3 tournaments for official events/belts. The other belts won't be ushered in with tournaments and the other two tournaments were organized by users. The demand for tournaments seems high. I'm sure tourney fatigue will set in soon but just as others said, if you feel there are too many tournaments or if you'd like to do something else, you're free to abstain from participating and organize a special match/rp or event of your own design.

Okay I must say I get the idea behind this... but I see a few problems with that. Where to draw the line?
Noob: You said:.."maybe if you can't commit to posting frequently then you shouldn't have joined the event."... Okay but if someone is a frequently poster or not would everyone see different... I hope I don't insult you right now but to me your not one of the most frequently posting people already... and yeah I know for the ko tournament I wasn't the fastest either

let's overdo it a bit for the sake of showing, if we would take that seriously only the top poster should be allowed to enter events...(under no way kn hell we should do that)

But I also think prioritizing the tournament or events to hard is no good thing either...if you close to a deadline yes then you maybe should shortly put other matches aside but under normal circumstances you should reply and threat any event match like a normal match.... you definitely shouldn't slow down I'm your other matches because of it , you shouldn't pause other matches because a event comes up or even break up some

It is only my opinion Sorry did not want to offend anyone
