Since the Olympic Games began in Athens in 1896, wrestling (in the form of Greco-Roman wrestling) became a focus of the Games. Three are Olympic disciplines: Greco-Roman wrestling, men's freestyle wrestling and female wrestling (i.e. women's freestyle wrestling). The other three are amateur pankration, belt wrestling alysh and beach wrestling. While wrestling was a staple in the competition, there was something special in this year's Olympics which was advertised to break the barriers of competition and show-case empowerment and equality to participants irrespective of age, ethnicity, belief and most importantly gender!
While the traditional view had always been a separation of sporting events between male and female competitors, this year the organizers had devised a special event to promote intergender mat wrestling. While it had been a difficult ordeal to arrange this due to the lack of participants willing to participate in such a event, both from the men and women side but the good folks at LAW had managed to get two wrestlers who were willing to wrestle at the Olympic 2020 for this special event.
The theme song of the Tokyo Olympic 2020 event played loud and clear from the speakers and the stagehands were ready for the starting ceremony of this grand event. The stagehand would walk up the steps with the torch in her hand, walking up and lightening up the iconic Olympic symbol to signal the start of today's event.
The arena was buzzing in excitement, the crowd were ready to see the one of a kind first time ever wrestling event. The participants were going to be utilizing the middle of mats in the arena to signify the importance. An announcer would make his way to the center of the mats with a mic in his hand and would start the opening speech.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! We welcome you to this first ever intergender mat wrestling event. The rules are simple, both wrestlers will wrestle to a submission or to a twenty count pinfall where both shoulders must be pinned to the mats. Outside of bounds would restart the match and there will be no strikes, kicks, underhanded blows or hairpulling. The winner of this wrestling match will receive a gold medal" he said while raising the medal high in the air.
The announcer continued with his speech after a brief pause.
"Representing Japan, we have our very own returning gold medalist Mizaki Matsunaga-san who has won gold medals in track and field as well as in pole vaulting! Whereas representing the United Kingdom we have Trent Masters, a wrestler and gym owner! Ladies and Gentlemen please give a round of applause to the participants and special thanks to the LAW administration who volunteered to offer their wrestlers for this event" he said before the crowd erupted in cheers.
After letting the excitement of the crowd ease up, the announcer would first introduce Trent Masters who was going to represent the United Kingdom in this wrestling match. A small generic intro was played with Trent Masters making his way into the arena in his usual wrestling gear consisting of a pair of blue wrestling briefs and nothing else. There were no padding or boots because it wasn't a pro wrestling match. The Masterpiece had the United Kingdom flag resting on his shoulders with the flag flowing freely down his back to show case that he was representing Great Britain.
Trent Masters would step up on the thick, blue wrestling mats and would walk up towards the announcer and stand next to him. Trent would jump up on his heels to warm up, rolling his shoulders and getting ready while still holding the flag on his shoulder. The announcer would then announce the introduction of Japan's Mizaki Matsunaga, calling her up to take her place across Trent before they could begin with the interviews and then ultimately the grand match itself.
