Back in the Hospital (for Deskfan)

When Yuki finally saw fit to take a step back from devouring her meal, she let out a breath, leaning back against the bed to place her head on the pillow and folding her hands in her lap in front of her. She moaned softly under her breath - her head was still throbbing, and she needed a moment's pause to let the pain die down. But soon enough, Maya handed her the remote, and she turned it to the TV, turning it on. "Thank you," she said. She started flicking through a few channels, looking for something to catch her interest; for a moment, she let it rest on an anime, and she tilted her head toward the screen with curiosity - she didn't think she'd seen this episode! But then she remembered Maya was right there next to her, and she blushed a little; as nice as the nurse was, she barely knew her, and she didn't want to look like too much of a hopeless nerd in front of her in case she'd judge. Biting her lip, she flicked over to another channel, just to be sure.

All the while, though, Yuki was sitting back in the bed, listening to what Maya had to say. And she looked back with a growing curiosity when she mentioned that her daughter was a wrestler too. "She is? Well...I guess that must help when dealing with some of the things you see in LAW, huh?" She was quick to wince as soon as Maya mentioned broken glass; the thought of it was enough to make her feel a stinging sensation pressing into her back. "Jeez...she sounds like a lot of trouble..."

Being a mother, Maya took a liking to younger women quite easily... No, not in that way! ...But also sort of in that way, but that's not how she felt about Yuki in this moment. There was a sweet look in her eyes as she watched the girl flip through the channels. She wanted to make sure this girl was happy and comfortable as long as she could help it. "Heh, oh, it certainly does. If I hadn't already seen these things happen to my own little girl, I dunno how well I would've been able to stomach some of the things I've seen here." She chuckled. She was about to give an example or two, but then remembered bad wrestling injuries probably weren't the best thing to talk in detail about to a woman in a hospital bed with a broken leg, a concussion, and deep cuts on her forehead.

"Oh my, you have no idea." Maya lied. "That little girl is nothing but trouble. But no matter what she does, I'll always love her." She said, her stomach churning. Yuki had no idea just how much this related to her. "How long have you been wrestling, Yuki?" She asked.

"I...imagine it must be hard, huh..." As soon as Yuki said the words aloud, she sighed, looking down at the bed as her shoulders sank with a slump. Even if Maya was trying to keep a smile on her face and her spirits up, what she was saying couldn't help but strike something in the girl. She could only imagine how watching her daughter go through all the injuries she did would impact Maya - and it left her wondering how her own parents felt about what she was doing. She knew she was an adult, and she could make her own decisions. Her family knew that, too, and they were willing to let her do what she was finding success and fulfillment in. But the last time she'd been out with an injury this bad - after her match with Amano - she could hear the worry in her mother's voice, and how concerned she was about how she was going to recover, every time they spoke. Was she only making this worse for everyone around her? Were they right in what they said - that all this was going to lead to her dying young? But if she wasn't wrestling, Yuki genuinely couldn't see herself anywhere else.

The next words out of Maya's mouth did put Yuki a bit at ease, a smile coming to her face as she nodded her head. "That's good...that's good. I'm glad she's doing well for herself. I'm sure she's really happy to have your support, too," she added, all the while oblivious as to just who she was talking about. Maya, no doubt, was eager to change the subject - and at her next question, Yuki let out another sigh, leaning down a little further and cupping her chin in her hands as she reflected on the past.

"Me? Three years. I started wrestling on the indies when I was 16. I signed up to LAW on my 18th birthday; I was in my last year of high school then. It's...kind of crazy to think, I have more experience than some girls my age..."
