A Dynasty At War

Unread post by CaptainL »

Tonight marked a special occasion for LAW fans. Tonight, Cynara Morgan - the former Apartment House Wrestling United States Champion, and the mother of the reigning champion Mina - had an announcement to make. Though her glory days as a competitor were well behind her, in her time since signing on with LAW, she had set out to prove she was far from finished making a name for herself in the business. Even as a manager, she had cut an imposing presence through the roster, asserting her claim to fame even after all the years, and after her first appearance at the Fight the LAW press conference, discussion and engagement surrounding the former champion shot up practically overnight. In an instant, her star had risen out of obscurity once again, and she enjoyed the position of fame and authority she hadn't known in decades. But for Cynara, that wasn't enough. She could aim even higher!

When the lights rose on the ring, Cynara was already standing there; the sight of her alone was enough to garner a few cheers, but the aloof look on her face never faded. Her daughter was standing just by her side, her arms folded as she stared out at the crowd with a half-lidded glare. It was only when Cynara was handed a microphone did her expression change - and it changed to a sly smirk as soon as she held that microphone to her lips. She had a challenge to make, and she already knew that the Morgan Dynasty could only reap its rewards.

"LAW, if I may have your attention?" Almost as soon as Cynara had spoken, the cheers died down to hushed, almost reverent silence - and that, to Cynara, was music to her ears. She chuckled to think that she still had the presence to command an entire arena of eager fans. That would only make her all the more confident when it came to what was to come.

"Good, good. See, I've been thinking. I know, and I'm sure you all know, how good LAW's been to me these last few years. Sure, I've hosted a few AHW events, but it's just not quite the same since we lost the mainstream magazine coverage, y'know? I don't mean to slight any of those fine men and women out there who keep apartment wrestling at its best alive - but I truly do believe that, more than anything else, it was Dan DeFranco who helped get me where I am today. If you asked the average wrestling fan if the name 'Cynara' meant anything to them even five years ago - unless they're die-hard affectionados, most of 'em below a certain age would probably say 'who?' But now, I'm confident there isn't one person in the wrestling world who doesn't know who I am, and what I do. And let me tell you, that is a good feeling!"

Flipping back her hair, Cynara continued. "You folks gave me a platform. You recognized all I did for the industry - all the magazines I moved, all the attention I brought to the sport - and you wanted me to pay you back. And, being the generous sort I am - what do you know! I did. Yeah, there's probably plenty of folks out there who turned out to tonight's show just to hear what I had to say. You know who you are! Those, folks, are butts I put in those seats. No need to thank me. I've already got money - I'll take the press and the air time, thank you very much. When you've settled down at my age, see, there isn't much room for you in the business unless you're someone who can talk. But as long as you want to hear me talk...I'll talk, all right. You'll get your money's worth!"

"Tonight, I'd like to use that platform for something of great importance to me. I think we've talked enough about me so far - I want to draw your attention to my lovely daughter over here." Circling behind Mina, Cynara draped an arm around her shoulder, though the girl's expression remained stoic. "If I dare say it myself, Mina has taken things a step further. Thanks to the impact I left here, she was able to make the jump to professional wrestling, in a Morgan family first! It was LAW that made it all possible - and as long as LAW keeps Mina on the payroll, she's going to keep our name at the front of everybody's minds! With LAW as our jumping-off point, we're going to establish ourselves as the biggest family in the wrestling world! We've conquered apartment wrestling across two generations, and we'll conquer pro wrestling too! Mina's already taken down that Nashi girl, and if you think we don't have more names on our list...you're dead wrong!"

"There's a lot of women in this business who call themselves the Queen. But folks, I've been doing it before some of them were even born - if anyone's earned that title, it's me, and you can take it up with the two of us if you've got a problem with that. But I do know there's one fellow here who calls himself the Prince. Daisuke Takeuchi, is it? Daisuke, if you're listening to this, I know how much it means to you, being a part of a big, important wrestling family. I know how all that stuff gets to your head - I hear how you talk about it; don't think I haven't picked up on it. Well, honey...all that means jack shit to me, because Mina can take you in any challenge you can name!" A gasp came over the crowd, but Cynara's smile only grew wider. "There's many who have tried to lay claim to the title of wrestling's royal family. You're not the first. But I'm hoping that when the Morgans are done with all of you...we'll be the last! If you're back there listening, Daisuke, why don't you come on out here and just try to tell me otherwise? Unless you already know you're hopeless? Because honey, I'll take that too!"

LAW was going to kick off with a promo segment from Cynara Morgan along with her daughter Mina. Many of the wrestlers in the back didn't really expect any sort of call-out let alone Daisuke. Many would figure this would be a generic laying claim to a title opportunity, perhaps boasting of a recent victory or if it was going to be call-out, it would be against a named rival. It started off as aspect, with Cynara laying down her history and the prestige she brought to the wrestling word- specifically apartment wrestling and how her daughter had continued that legacy but pushed it further on by taking the wrestling to the ring and not just the apartment.

Things would then take a turn towards a general remark on how many female wrestlers called themselves Queen whereas the real wrestling royalty figures were in the ring. No doubt that created some issues regarding those who had the nickname Queen but then came a specific name, a name of the wrestling prince, Daisuke Takeuchi. Not just the name but he was specifically called out- to come out and join them in the ring to address the issue.

The wrestling prince was not going to disappoint, he was in the back and would soon march to the gorilla position before making his way out to the LAW arena with a smirk on his face.

He would walk around the ring, grabbing a mic from the announcer before making his way into the ring. He ignored Mina, instead going up towards Cynara who seemed to be doing all the talking for her daughter. "It seems to me like you have a problem with me but then you want me to challenge your daughter in any match type?" he said, chuckling a bit. "The way I see it if you have a problem in the way I walk and talk then....how about you step out of retirement, step into your wrestling attire and face me? So I can put you back into retirement myself" he said more seriously.

"But alas, you won't and having this conversation is pointless. You aren't woman enough to wrestle a real man, Cynara" he mocked before turning his attention towards Mina. "So I suppose I will have to take the next best thing and face you instead, Mina" he mentioned, grinning while going face to face with the younger Morgan. "Also, as you can see I am a very important man and I don't wrestle any low life peasant. So in order for this to be worth my while how about.....we wrestle for that AHW Championship? In a 2/3 falls apartment wrestling match?" he proposed.

It had taken some time to set up, but ever since both she and her daughter had come over to LAW, Cynara's ultimate plan was starting to unfold. For now, at least, she was content to sit at the sidelines and let others do the dirty work for her. She wasn't after any titles or victories - not yet, anyway - when she already had a record well worth being proud of. Instead, she was out to prove her lineage as the greatest legacy in the wrestling world. Her legendary career as AHW Champion was what staked her claim to fame, and now her daughter was out to conquer pro wrestling the way she had done for apartment wrestling. In order to prove her point, she was going to take down every wrestling dynasty in her way, to show the world they couldn't hold a candle to the Morgan family. Her victory over Nashi Dragneel, herself a legacy wrestler, was the start of that, and now, she had her eyes set on the Takeuchis.

When she called out her challenge for Daisuke, Cynara could only grin a smug grin to herself. There were two potential outcomes for this scenario. Either Daisuke wouldn't show up, which would prove his cowardice and show everyone how unworthy he was to hold the esteem he did. Or he would show up - and then, Cynara would have the pleasure of tearing him down in front of the world, and bringing out his flaws to his face.

She had predicted that Daisuke's ego would be too great to turn down such a public challenge. And sure enough, she was right. When the Prince came down the ramp, she didn't even flinch; her eyes remained fixed on him with watchful and eager anticipation of how he'd respond. She smirked, leaning a little closer...at least, up until Daisuke challenged the former champion herself to a match. He was serious - perhaps more so than even she had bargained for! At this, Cynara's eyes went wider, and she drew back from Daisuke, just a little. A few calls of "Ooooh" went through the stands - and Cynara just hated it even more that they had actually noticed her composure had been shaken. Nevertheless, she wouldn't let it keep her down for long. She stood up a little straighter and cleared her throat. She was going to make sure Daisuke ate his words.

"Take it from me, hon. I would just love to get in the ring and tear you apart myself - but I'm not afraid to say it, I'm in my fifties and I haven't wrestled in decades. If I was to take you on here and now, well, that just wouldn't be fair. Is that what you want? To beat up an old lady? My, that'd be very impressive. Definitely a sign you're worth your salt." She rolled her eyes, but sauntered around Daisuke, all while Mina stayed right where she was, her arms folded and her eyes fixed on Daisuke with a less than impressed stare. She looked him in the eye all the while, never breaking eye contact for a moment. To look away would be a concession of defeat.

But even still...when Daisuke announced his terms for the match, even Mina shook, looking back at him in shock. "What..!? You can't be serious-!" To so confidently announce a challenge for her title showed a lot of faith in his abilities - or plenty of foolishness. Either way, she hadn't foreseen things escalating this much!

However, it was Cynara who quickly cut things off before her daughter could say any more. "Oh ho!" she mused aloud. Bringing the AHW Championship into this was certainly a daring bid on Daisuke's part. It was not lost on Cynara either that he had requested a two-of-three-falls match - much like the match in which Cynara herself had won her title in her heyday. The very fact he was proposing such a thing to begin with was a threat; if he won this, beating the Morgans in their most prized and esteemed of contests, it would shatter the foundation on which they rest their egos. But if he lost...it would be all the more public a showcase of their supremacy.

"We accept," she chimed in, sealing the agreement with a clap of her hands. "Two out of three falls, apartment match, for the AHW Championship - you've got it. We'll even be happy to host the thing at your place, just to give you a handicap. But, Daisuke, hon..." She stepped a little closer, looking directly into his eyes. "I do hope you know just what it is you're getting yourself into. My daughter's a champion for a very good reason."

After being called out like that, there was no way Daisuke was ever going to not show up to the arena. It was quite obvious that the mature woman was advocating for her daughter but her own words were fighting words. Coupled with the fact that Cynara was a former champion herself, the same championship that her daughter holds now, made the wrestling prince felt like he wanted to teach a lesson to the mother rather than to the daughter who was standing stoic during all this. As Daisuke showed up, he would approach Cynara and would get up close and personal. His words stung the former champion, the crowd would pump Cynara as well.

It was clear that she was shaken but soon she regained her composure and stepped back up to the wrestling prince, declining his challenge. He grinned, clearly his plan had worked. "I'm glad you know your place then" he would say, turning his attention back to Mina as he laid out his challenge. Even the younger Morgan was surprised but it was clear that Daisuke wanted gold and this would be a perfect chance to get it. Once again, Cynara was the one to step up and accept the challenge on behalf of her daughter.

"Good, because when I am done with your daughter...she won't be a champion anymore" he would say as the match was made official.

The tension in the air was thick - and everyone could feel it, from those sitting back in the furthest row to the two Morgans in the ring right now. It was clear that everyone had a lot invested in this match. Cynara was determined to establish the rightful supremacy of her family in the wrestling landscape. Mina wanted to make her mother proud. Daisuke wanted to prove that he wouldn't let any challenge to his authority go untested. And everyone had a lot of pride - in their family name and in their own accomplishments. Pride they were determined to hold onto, and pride they had no room to share.

Which was why, when Daisuke called Cynara out to her face, the former champion's eyes went wide, and her jaw fell open in a gasp. It seemed that, even for just one moment, she had conceded some ground to Daisuke, and he knew it - he was eager to rub that very fact in her face! A call of "Ooooh" went through the entire arena. If people hadn't been excited for a match between the heirs to two legendary wrestling dynasties already, they were certainly interested now that it was clear that Daisuke wouldn't even let the imposing presence and the famous career of Cynara Morgan intimidate him into silence. His very presence here was a challenge to everything the Morgans were trying to put across. And when Cynara heard the jeers of the fans, it caused her to let out a huff as her brow wrinkled and her teeth clenched. This was not what she had in mind. She was here to rebuild the legacy of her family, not have it all called into queston!

...But on the bright side...it meant that when everything blew up in Daisuke's face, his reaction would be all the more priceless. She smiled wider; her posture eased as she chuckled softly to herself. When she looked over to see the stern glare on Mina's face, one that hadn't wavered even a little despite his bold statements, she knew that her daughter was already approaching this just as she should. If Daisuke thought he could dare to stand up to them, it would only give the Morgans that much more of a motivation to prove him wrong. Mina was fully committed to that!

As though her ego had never been challenged in the first place, Cynara chuckled softly, straightening her back. "I'm so glad we could agree to a deal, then," she said. "In that case...we'll be seeing you soon enough~" With that, she turned to proceed out of the ring, with Mina following close behind. But the younger Morgan still turned to glare at Daisuke over her shoulder, making it quite clear that she was convinced he wouldn't stand a chance.
