Caroline laughed to herself a little seeing her newly acquired student jump for joy after gaining a trainer. The former astronaut didn’t think she would get interest this time soon, but she was hired as an instructor so just about anyone could come to her and she thought it was a bonus this girl was also into boxing. Caroline thought over what their first lesson could be. She got to see Nanami hit the sandbag, but that’s barely a percent of what she can truly do. No other choice, but to test Nanami directly and see what needs to be improved upon.

“Alright, if I’m going to train you more, I need to see more of what you can really do. I propose this. Sparring, but spilt up into different pre-tests throughout the rounds. We’ll do five rounds. First round is me defending and you going on the offense to see your strategies and punches in play. Second round is vice versa where I’ll test your defense and countering. Third round is back to me on defense and you’ll test jabs and hooks only. Fourth round will be testing footwork. We won’t throw punches, but I want you to try and corner me. Fifth round will be a 2:00 minute round of full sparring putting everything into practice. From there, I can determine what we need to focus on. Think of it like a pre-test,” Caroline explained.

With the mentor-student relationship fully consummated, it was now time for Caroline to put Nanami to work. While Nanami had jumped for joy, the battlin' gal didn't immediately have any ideas on how to test herself. Luckily, Caroline's experience provided her with a detailed plan on how to assess the young lioness' skills. It sounded rather taxing, but if the battlin' gal didn't want to improve then she wouldn't have been so eager to have the astronaut as her mentor. Nanami was in for the long haul now.

Caroline searched around the gym and saw an empty ring not in use so she wrapped an arm around Nanami’s shoulder to escort her over. She told Nanami to warm up as she took off her gloves off for a moment to grab her phone out of her pocket. She went into her timer app and started setting a clock for two minutes as that would be their standard for the following rounds. Caroline put it on a short timer and quickly set it on the apron as she rolled in the ring grabbing her gloves to relace them. Caroline hurried over to her corner and breathed out some heavy breaths getting herself prepared. First round test was only her defending so she got her gloves up as the timer officially started their spar.

A shiver went through Nanami's body when she felt her new mentor's hand be wrapped around her back. It caught the young boxer off-guard but also gave her a sense of comfort feeling Caroline's casual affection for her student. They both marched towards an empty ring in the gym, with Caroline telling Nanami to warm up. With a determined look and a nod, Nanami loosened up her shoulders before doing some shadow boxing, albeit with a somewhat weak guard.

Once Caroline indicated she was ready, the dark-skinned girl stepped forward hesitantly. Despite the astronaut allowing Nanami to work her stuff for the first round, the bright-eyed boxer's blows were subdued and lacking in confidence, even though she packed quite some destructive power behind those fists.

Caroline came stepping out getting her guard up as her student approached her. She started defending as Nanami would start out dishing her blows. Caroline acted as if she was holding up mitts using her gloves to block off Nanami’s shots and she frowned a little sensing Nanami wasn’t too confident in her abilities. Her student wasn’t using her fists to their full potential, but it’s just the start and she had to be patient and hope Nanami put some more effort. Caroline tried circling around Nanami to get her footwork going as she continued deflecting shots with her gloves.

Nanami was almost entirely stationary as she struck at Caroline's gloves. It was strange. The blunt fist fighter knew everything she had to do to put some real power behind her blows, yet Nanami seemed unable, or perhaps subconsciously unwilling to properly strike out. Eventually, Carol's movement forced some footwork out of Nanami. Once more, a girl who was clearly able-bodied and able to correct her own mistakes, was making such rookie mistakes in the first place. Nanami put some more power behind her punches, and oddly enough seemed to actually display some impressive footwork for fleeting moments of the training. However, Caroline was going to have to coax the true potential of the Young Lioness out of her den.

Caroline felt the power increase as her student’s gloves hit hers a little harder. That’s better, but not where she ought to be. Nanami was hovering in being a first round knockout and not standing a chance. Caroline needed to try something more drastic to coax faster punches out of Nanami. Caroline tried leaning in and out trying to goad Nanami into trying to work more quicker on her strikes. Caroline likes to do this in her matches leaving her opponents confused for a few minutes as they were forced into timing their strikes just right or be open to Caroline’s wallops.
