Do you have any funny story to tell us?” A question was asked. “Something from recent events, for example.”

Oh...” Charlotte began to think hard. “Actually, I don't have much free time to get into any interesting stories.” She confessed. “However, I can probably say that my trip to Las Vegas with Astrid and Nerissa was an extremely unusual adventure, especially for me because I'm not used to such things." The pink-haired woman smiled, remembering the time she spent with her best friends. “I am not ashamed to admit that I have a very difficult relationship with alcohol, which is why I prefer to drink only good wines and in small quantities." The Frenchwoman scratched her head in embarrassment. “While we were in Las Vegas, Nerissa decided that putting strong alcohol in my wine was a great idea.” Charlotte would have preferred not to talk about it, but she knew she had to be honest. “Half an hour later, I was so drunk that I was ready to conduct a taekwondo master class right in the casino hall.” She laughed. “Let's just say how much fun I had that night can only be compared to how bad I felt the next morning.”

A young woman dressed in her casual clothes sat on a chair on a low stage to get a better view of all the people gathered here today. She lowered the microphone and looked around the conference room, which was filled with laughter after her story. It wasn't the largest room, but there was practically no free space. People have taken literally every corner, as they say in such situations, even an apple has nowhere to fall. However, this was not surprising.

It was winter outside, which meant that the time for the second most important annual event was coming very soon. Fight The LAW. The federation's leadership wanted to make some hype around this event, so they gave fans the opportunity to meet their idols. It came as a surprise to Charlotte that she was invited, but she did not refuse, because despite her rather reclusive lifestyle, she understood how important it was to keep in touch with those who came to cheer for her during matches.

The pink-haired woman was given the opportunity to choose the format of a meeting with her fans. And she decided to opt for the so-called panel. No journalists or cameras, just her and her fans. Victoria has said many times that people want to know more about Charlotte. It was hard for the Frenchwoman to believe it because she believed that her life would seem extremely boring to others. Therefore, she was pleasantly surprised when the doors of the conference room opened three hours ago and a stream of people poured in.

Miss Ravel, it's time...” one of the security staff told her.

Already?” She was surprised, and then she looked at her watch.

Indeed, it had already been three whole hours. She didn't expect it herself, but at that time she wasn't tired at all, and the questions from the fans seemed endless, some of them gave Charlotte the opportunity to tell a story from her life, while others led to a real discussion. However, it was late in the evening and most of the other fighters had already finished their fan meetings, so…

Our time is running out, and since we don't want the security guards to throw us out,” Charlotte paused briefly so the fans could laugh. “Three more questions and after that we will conclude our meeting.” At least twenty people raised their hands after that, which slightly confused the Frenchwoman. “Yes, you, in the third row, I saw that you wanted to ask a question all evening, so go ahead!”

A girl who looked no more than twelve years old got up from a chair. Charlotte still couldn't get used to the fact that some of her fans were so young, but it certainly warmed her heart. She took a short sip of water and prepared to listen to the question, but in the next second something seemed to squeeze her heart.

How do your parents feel about your success, do they support you, do they come to watch your matches?" The girl's voice sounded clear as the first snow.

The fans stared at Charlotte with interest because this question seemed very good to them. Yes, it really was a good question probably for any fighter. Except for Charlotte. The pink-haired woman seemed speechless. It was one of those things she never wanted to talk about. Not even all of her close friends know about Charlotte's relationship with her family.

I...” Charlotte wanted to say that she couldn't answer that question, but then she looked into the little girl's eyes, yes, that would be a betrayal on her part, and so she just couldn't help but answer. “My family...”

For the first time in a very long time, a chill ran down the pink-haired woman's spine. The mere mention of her family was like an avalanche of memories for her. Born into one of the richest and most influential families in France, she was to become the heiress of the family. But when it became clear that Charlotte wasn't like the rest of her family, they all turned their backs on her. Because of this, malice settled in her heart, which became bigger and bigger every year, which as a result led to the fact that it still haunts her in nightmares.…

Charlotte?” The little girl called out perplexedly.

Ah... yes...” the Frenchwoman shook her head, and then closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. “You see, unfortunately, my family doesn't share my aspirations.” She said, trying to keep her voice under control. “They wanted a completely different future for me, but this future is not what I wanted." Charlotte looked away. “Neither my parents nor my younger sister are interested in my success and don't come to watch my matches." She smiled sadly. “But I have another family... my manager Victoria, my best friends Astrid and Nerissa, as well as all the other members of our team, together we support each other on our common difficult path, this is more than enough for me.”

The reaction to Charlotte's response was not the most unequivocal because no one knew that she had such a difficult relationship with her family. Charlotte took a short sip of water, trying to calm down completely. It was just a small part of what she had locked away deep in her soul. The memories of her last meeting with her younger sister terrified her. She spent the last seven years of her life trying to forget about all this. Forget about what a monster she was.

Next question, please...” said Charlotte, trying not to create an awkward pause, after which she pointed at a completely random guy before the others could raise their hands. “If I'm not mistaken, you also wanted to ask something.”

Yes, that's right!” Getting up from his chair, the short-haired brunet said. “Recently, a major media resource conducted a poll of who fans would like to see in a match with Charlotte Ravel'.” At this point, the crowd buzzed excitedly like a swarm of bees. “The third place went to the match against Alizeh Midori, the second place went to the rematch against Akari Ito.” The noise continued to grow, and with it, Charlotte's interest continued to grow. “And the first place went to the match against Kyoko Akan.” The conference room was filled with an excited buzz. “What do you think about this match and what are the chances that such a match will take place?”

Despite not having the best emotions after the previous question, the pink-haired woman smiled while thinking about what she had just heard. She definitely had something to say about the results of this poll, but although she was used to being honest, she wanted to find the right words. Besides, it would be unfair for her to tell about her thoughts only about the first place.

My manager constantly reminds me that I have to keep an eye on things like this, and even though I try to do it, this poll has passed me by,” she confessed. “Well, I won't hide the fact that the results seem very interesting to me, so I think I'll share my thoughts about all three options that you've outlined." The Frenchwoman paused briefly to take a sip of water. “Alizeh Midori... we don't know each other personally, but I personally saw her in action because I was in the front row with Astrid and Nerissa during her match against Lily.” An attentive person would surely have noticed that Charlotte's gaze had become more serious. “Alizeh has a more than impressive score and she is certainly an outstanding representative of the middleweight division, her skills cannot be questioned, moreover, after a personal meeting with her, my manager told me that she believes that I have a lot in common with her." Charlotte paused briefly, clearly wanting to emphasize the importance of her next words. “Yes, it's possible that she and I are similar in some ways, but I believe that we differ in many ways, especially in our aspirations and the reasons for these aspirations.” Some of the fans understood what Charlotte was talking about, but there was confusion on the faces of others. “I'm not aiming to be the top one fighter in the rankings, I'm aiming to be the best fighter in the world!” She said with all seriousness. “Maybe one day Alizeh and I will meet in the ring to prove to each other the importance of our aspirations!”

This was met with loud applause, while the Frenchwoman was given the opportunity to take another sip of water to wet her throat. It was no secret that many people wanted to see this match. Many people wanted to know which one was better. Maybe, just maybe, deep down, Charlotte wanted it too. But in fact, she believed that it was worth fighting for something more. Yes, the future is always vague and you cannot know what awaits you tomorrow. Perhaps tomorrow fate will bring them together and they will fight against each other in the same ring. But that day has not come yet.

Akari Ito...” as soon as she said that name, the corners of her lips involuntarily lifted, and a faint blush appeared on her cheeks. “She gave me the best match of my life!” The Frenchwoman said honestly, trying to hide most of her emotions about this woman. “She's...” at this point, Charlotte had to cover her mouth with her left hand to collect her thoughts. “Akari is the best person I've ever met in the LAW ring, she not only shares my views on what a real fighter should be like, but she also has outstanding skills worthy of a true champion.” Charlotte rarely lost her composure, but at that moment her breathing became heavy. “When we were fighting, it felt like I was fighting my own reflection!” She said, pressing her left palm to her heart. “You know, I firmly believe that you can only truly know a person in a fight!” Charlotte looked around at all the fans gathered. “And I can tell you without scruples that Akari is the kind of woman who deserves to be top one in the world!” She tried to get her emotions under control. “So I'm looking forward to our next match!!!”

The fans burst into applause, while Charlotte devoted this time to calm down. Yes, she has devoted the last seven years to giving up her emotions and feelings. There are no emotions, there is only peace. This was one of her main principles. But when Akari appeared in her life, her principles began to crumble like a sand castle. This woman... no one, not even Jenner, caused such a powerful storm of emotions in Charlotte. This brunette had sunk into her soul, and no matter how much she resisted, she couldn't change it. However, the pink-haired woman had to take a deep breath because she had to tell about her thoughts about something else...

Kyoko Akan...” Charlotte's voice slowed down noticeably, which was proof that she was choosing her words much more carefully. “It would be honest to say that for me it seems to be an interesting and rather unexpected result.” She said, trying to keep her voice steady. “But I think I understand why the fans preferred Kyoko in this poll." The martial arts master's voice became serious again, and lightning began to sparkle in her eyes. “She is certainly strong, and as a middleweight champion she was able to defeat many outstanding women.” She admitted. “But unfortunately, during her reign, she was unable to do one important thing, she was unable to preserve her honor.” Not all of them, but many began to nod understandingly. “Someone might say that I'm wrong, but as a fighter, I think I understand the reason, Kyoko is so afraid of defeat that now she is ready to do anything, even the most despicable things, to keep her title and status." Charlotte blinked slowly. “That's why we are completely different people.” She concluded. “I strive for self-improvement every day and every morning I wake up with the goal of becoming better than I was yesterday, so I also think that defeat is unacceptable!” She paused briefly. “But even though there have been bitter defeats in my career, they have not been able to make me turn away from my path, and therefore I will never stoop to dirty methods in an attempt to get a victory.” In a fit of emotion, she clenched her left fist and pressed it to her heart. “My goal is to become the best fighter in the world and I will be able to do it without resorting to outside help or meanness.” She made a promise. “I think that's why fans want to see this match, because it's always interesting for viewers to see two opposites in the ring." Charlotte chuckled softly. “Ironically or not, for the same reason I think this match is unlikely to happen.” She said. “We are from different worlds.”

Her response clearly left fans impressed. Perhaps she could have chosen more delicate words, but the Frenchwoman is used to being honest, especially with her fans. It would probably have been better for the hype if she had jumped to her feet right away with the promise that she would tear Kyoko apart if she was given a chance, but the martial arts master was not used to such loud words. When she finished answering, she glanced briefly at her watch, and then looked around the conference room.

Any more questions?”

Kyoko still wasn't sure why so many people came to her events if they were going to boo her. Promo hype events like these were one of the few places you'd find unabashed fans of the Belly Queen who weren't overshadowed by everyone else and one of the few reasons Kyoko bothered to meet any fans at all since she always wanted to support those people who thought like her. Of course with her bigger fame came bigger obstacles, while she mostly had some of her own and, the more rapid section of other fan favorites who Kyoko had crushed during her time as the Best Middleweight Champion ever came to tell her that she was a fraud. It was rather pathetic to see that they were sore losers because the favorite failed them while Kyoko didn't fail her people but that was the price of stardom, some stars burned brighter than others. Kyoko had chosen a more one on one panel where each fan got roughly 2 minutes to ask her anything or even take pictures with her, doing so until her time ended for the day. That meant she had the rest of the day to herself which she spent moving around the complex, avoiding anyone who tried to talk to me when she wasn't on the clock. She'd already given the people several hours of her time and would give them several more tomorrow, this was her time and she would spend it doing whatever she wanted. Plus one question that she couldn't answer yet seemed to be the one everyone was eager to ask.

"Who are you eyeing for Fight the LAW?"

It had been asked several ways but it mostly got the same 'Wait and see' type answer. In truth Kyoko had no idea who to pick. The last Fight the LAW she made history being the Main Eventer for the second week of the event, something a Middleweight title Match hadn't done since the day the belt was first one and meaning she was the first Middleweight to headline as champion. That meant that the spot of her next opponent at the PPV needed something just as big if not bigger to match the moment, and that put a lot of challengers out of sight and few who could meet it. Alizeh was her opponent last year and after she beat that ungrateful bitch she had to face her fiance Kate at the next PPV because of it, and at the Turning Point Supercard she had to answer to Harmonia, 3 of the bigger names in LAW who were now all behind her. A few names that came up beside those 3 was Tracy of the SWAt Cats but Kyoko found the trio insufferable and the redhead to be the most insufferable of the three. The fact that Tracy and fought and lost to both past champions made her unlikely to deserve a third chance against a far superior champ. Another name that came up was Akari Ito, especially after news of the 7 minute spar they had a few weeks back, but it was because of that spar that Kyoko also thought less of her as a worthy challenger, and the bitch thought she was an unworthy champion and a tyrant. She was sick of those kinds of loser heroes trying to fight to save the belt or something stupid like that. The problem Kyoko found herself having while lost in thought is that she thought few were even her equal, even among champions the only one she thought was a match for her was Astrid, which meant everyone was vastly below her in her head. But she couldn't fight no one, they'd say she was a coward and never let her live it down. She started to rattle off names of challengers that might live up to her last PPV in her head when she heard another voice...
Spoiler

“And the first place went to the match against Kyoko Akan.”

"Huh?" Kyoko stopped in her tracks and turned to see what was going on, realizing where she was when she saw the people around the panel and mainly who was at the panel herself. Charlotte Ravel, the Sand Lizard. A tough as nails Middleweight who carved her path to Apex the same way Kyoko did, she even fought Kyoko's old tag partner/Rival/roommate Amy Evans during that path which is when she first got on the Belly Queen's radar. It was a brutal loss but she rarely saw Amy stumble away from a victory like that before and it spoke to Charlotte's skill that she was one of the few who could do that, and among the fewer who could do it while on a lower weight class than the Lion...In fact the only other Middleweight who she knew could do that, or even straight up win was the Belly Queen herself. In most cases Kyoko would blow this question off and walk away, of course most people wanted to see her fight Kyoko, she was the champion! It was a no brainier who everyone wanted to see their favorites fight. But it was because of this relative respect for Charlotte's skill that she stuck around to hear the question's response. Through that she learned who the other people mentioned in the poll were and Alizeh and Akari, two names Kyoko knew quite well, one could say she knew them more than she wanted to. Charlotte's response was very basic with Alizeh which almost made Kyoko chuckle, the answer with Akari was more in depth and Kyoko found herself rolling her eyes for various reasons. Her main one being that the two of them clearly had very different opinions on the Sea Turtle, one with respect and seeing her as a peer and the other with scorn and a burning desire to see her face smashed in. Then Charlotte got to her and admitted that it was an unexpected result which made Kyoko look at the Sand Lizard in shock. That shock started to turn into anger when the girl actually had the gall to say that she was unable to preserve her honor...That she feared defeat so much she threw away her values to maintain victory. The fact that the crowd seemed to be impressed or nodding along to this made Kyoko even angrier, was no one going to call out this bullshit!? Kyoko stood there wondering if anything else would be said and more was as Charlotte used her time to explain that she would never change who she was, which Kyoko saw as painfully naive but the crowd loved, and after that Charlotte wanted to move on to a new question. Many seemed eager to get Charlotte's attention but all fell silent when Kyoko walked up and raised her hand. "I have a question!" Kyoko said, her voice making everyone who didn't notice her before turn and look on in shock as the name they were just talking about had appeared almost out of thin air. The Belly Queen walked closer and looked around at the now hushed crowd, stunned into silence by the Champion's intimidating presence. Right now the only one not cowering was Charlotte who was getting the Belly Queen's full attention.

"I actually have several questions but I understand security is kicking you out in a few so I'll try to word this as best I can do you can answer it completely." Kyoko said walking closer and closer to Charlotte. "I understand that you're a tough fighter and that some things don't always appear right to a spectator but don't you think the standards for how a fighter should act and a champion are very different and should be treated as such?" Kyoko asked, getting close enough that many fans feared she might be getting ready to fight the girl in front of her here and now, security even looked ready to intervene even though they didn't like the idea of trying to restrain someone like Kyoko...or maybe they feared they couldn't. "I mean you should have enough examples for that right? Look at my Apex run, when I fought your girl Astrid the two of us nearly killed each other, but if you saw the way we looked we didn't care, we were having fun. And we got to have fun because neither of us were champions. But now that we are things look a lot less fun don't you agree?" She asked looking at Charlotte's body language to see if any of this was getting to her. "Look at her match with that bitch Emaline, a dirty good for nothing arrogant cheater who spits on what it means to be a wrestler. Ema, who has her posse of girls ready to do her bidding, imagine someone like that fighting you for a championship that you held dear. I know what it's like I had to do the same at Apex. It's not a good feeling, knowing that you're the only one standing between her and that title, knowing that if you fall someone like that holds a prize they don't deserve to win. That if you lose, the title loses prestige because it's now in the hands of someone who will run it into the ground for their ego. It's a terrible feeling, wondering if the next person is worthy of taking the belt from you." Kyoko added close enough that she reached out and placed her hand on Charlotte's shoulder. "Do you think that's a good feeling to have in the middle of a fight? Knowing that the history of a championship rests on your shoulders. That's how I felt halfway through my match with Alizeh, who acted like a spoiled brat because I stopped meeting her standards. That's how I felt fighting Akane who had Tia help her try to beat me and turned our title Match into a 2v1. Or Kathleen who tried to end peoples careers. It's how I feel when people try to say I should challenge that big baby you just praised, Akari and give her a chance. I would love to keep fighting people the way I always did, but the fact is that when you're a champion, the belts honor is more important than yours and you can't just let anyone hold it. Did you consider that during that rant, or were you just...talking?" Kyoko asked eyes never leaving Charlotte's own.

After Charlotte offered to ask the last question, the fans raised their hands in the air, but before the Frenchwoman chose one of them, a voice rang out in the conference room, causing almost everyone present to turn their heads towards the entrance. Charlotte, who was sitting facing the entrance, had no such need, so she simply shifted her gaze to the owner of that voice.

Kyoko Akan. The Belly Queen and the current middleweight champion. In the flesh.

It was an amazing coincidence that she was here at the exact moment when Charlotte shared what she thought of her. But the fact remained. Besides, in the very next second it became obvious that the purple-haired woman had something to say to the Frenchwoman's words. She not only started talking, but she also confidently moved towards Charlotte. At that moment, most fans felt a chill run down their backs because of the impressive aura of the champion, and it seemed that only Charlotte was completely calm about it.

Kyoko's speech was as confident as her every step. She walked up to Charlotte's stage without any remorse, stopping just a step and a half away from the pink-haired woman. Well, now Charlotte understood exactly how Kyoko saw the situation from her side. If she had been a little less restrained, she would have started shaking her head a long time ago, but instead the martial arts master just stared at the champion in silence right up to the moment when Kyoko demanded an answer from Charlotte to the question of whether she thought about everything she said before giving her subjective assessment of the Belly Queen and her actions.

Well,” Charlotte said in the same calm voice as before, making it clear that Kyoko's authority was significant, but not to the point of putting a pressure on her. “I assume your unexpected guest needs no introduction?”

Only after this light joke did Charlotte smoothly rise to her feet, finding herself face to face with Kyoko. Well, as much as possible, because the Frenchwoman was almost half a head taller than the champion. Purposefully or not, Kyoko probably thought that her words would take the pink-haired woman by surprise. Well, she would soon find out that Charlotte had something to say to that, but first…

Charlotte clenched her right fist and pressed it against her outstretched left palm, after which she bowed to the purple-haired woman in front of her.

Charlotte Ravel'.” She introduced herself, straightening up to her full height.

There were only a few people in the federation to whom Charlotte would have refused such a gesture of respect. Yes, she disapproved of Kyoko's methods, but she respected her strength, so she saw no reason to abandon her personal code of honor. Besides, it was the first time they were face to face, so she thought it was the right thing to introduce herself to the champion. Only then the pink-haired woman, without taking her eyes off Kyoko, brought the microphone to her mouth.

Yes, I considered that during my speech,” she said calmly, emphasizing that it was just a speech and not a rant. “So let's be clear, do you think that since your title is claimed by people with a guilty conscience and even more impure methods, then you should do the same?" Charlotte raised her left eyebrow. “What prestige of the title are you talking about then, Kyoko?” There was no anger or judgment in Charlotte's words, she was just saying what she thought was right. “Because if you do what they do, then you're no better, the only difference is that they do it to get the title, and you do it to keep it.”

Slightly lowering the microphone, Charlotte slightly raised her left eyebrow, continuing to look into the eyes of the purple-haired woman. She wasn't going to pretend that she knew what it meant to be a champion and take responsibility for that. She wasn't going to pretend like she was some kind of hero who came to save the situation on the title scene. There was absolutely no need for this, because she spoke from the bottom of her heart and these were her beliefs. No more, no less.

You were strong before you became a champion, and you will remain strong from now on,” the Frenchwoman continued, wanting to convey her point of view crystal clear. “But instead of really reviving the importance of the title of the largest and most popular division, you just justify your methods by saying that those who want to come after your title are ready for the same methods.” Barely noticeably, Charlotte moved forward, now as if hovering over Kyoko. “So tell me, Kyoko, what will be your legacy?” She asked. “What are you really fighting for?” The pink-haired woman's gaze seemed to go into Kyoko's soul. “For the power that this title gives?” She guessed. “Power is always dangerous, it attracts the worst and it corrupts the best.” Charlotte's breathing barely noticeably quickened. “That's exactly what happened to you.” After these words, she seemed to calm down. “I know that you want to be remembered, I know this because I also want to be remembered, and therefore...” at this point, Charlotte's eyes narrowed slightly. “We must be better!” She said what she believed with all her heart, then lowered the microphone and relaxed her palm so that Kyoko could take it if she had something to say to it.

Naturally her mere presence was enough to shift the attitude of Charlotte's meeting, darkening it from the relaxed Q&A it had been before she arrived. Now everyone feared a potential fight and being caught in the crossfire while Kyoko was watching Charlotte the entire time she got up close to the woman. She needed no introduction and Charlotte didn't need to give her one, still offering her own name even though Kyoko already knew it. "I know who you are Charlotte, I'm sure it's a pleasure to meet...me." Kyoko said smirking as she stood in front of the Sand Lizard, standing as proudly as she ever did while she explained herself. She saw the entire time that Charlotte was contemplating what she said, which she hoped would mean that Charlotte finally learned her lesson. The conversation instead shifted to more questions of Kyoko's reign and how he methods could potentially taint the title itself. More stuff that annoyed the Belly Queen, she'd heard it all before in different ways and it always fell flat. But something about the way Charlotte said it seemed to...annoy her and her grip on Charlotte's shoulder briefly tightened before she composed herself to start speaking again by taking the mic from Charlotte.

"The difference is that I've proven myself. Even now their's no one on the roster that I can't beat. No matter the weight class, no matter the size and no matter the style. I've spent years proving that fact while others want to coast. Even when I won the title I proved that, when I defeated foes like Wyvern and even former champs like Tina, all by myself. When someone brings that loser mentality of needing to bring backup or disrespect I show them that not only am I a better wrestler than them, but that I can do that stuff too and even better than they can. It's a simple point to prove, If someone tries to jump me with a friend, I jump them with 2 friends. An unworthy foe doesn't deserve the same dignity that real challengers get." Kyoko said. "That's what real power is Charlotte. The ability to see true worthy talent. That's why I picked out opponents like Wyvern and Alizeh to be my opponents and that's why I shut down the unworthy challenges like Kate and Akane, because like you said I am strong, long before I became champ, and long after I won that belt. And that strength lets me weather all falsehoods that would break a lesser woman, it lets me carry the heightened responsibility that comes with being champ and not falling into the simple traps that others fall into like accepting fights from just anyone. You asked what I was fighting for correct?" Kyoko asked, already knowing the answer.

"The simple answer is, I'm fighting for my better future. The better future for wrestling where we stop taking in all of the losers that want to look pretty or show off but don't have a single ounce of fighting spirit in their bodies that run around LAW and all of wrestling like a plague threatening to tear the entire thing down with them. And I have to do it because I am better....I already was, and now I have to prove it. You don't understand because you don't see things the way I do but once I'm done you will, they all will. The power hasn't corrupted me Charlotte, it's enabled me to see the path to the wrestling world we deserve, and it enables me to make the path where we cull those who don't deserve to be on it. My reign isn't just for my legacy, it's the trial by fire where everyone will see how far ahead I am, where everyone will have to follow or be burned and pushed aside. Alizeh got her trial and was burned but she still has chance to make something of herself. Akari will get it too, honestly I don't even think she'll make it to me, a woman like her is bound to get burned long before she can even show her face in my presence and pretend to be an equal....But If she's your equal I do worry that you won't survive either Charlotte. Which is a shame because I always thought you were better than those two, but maybe I'm wrong." Kyoko said and then would move the mic closer to Charlotte before she finished. "Am I?" She added with another sinister smirk.

At first, it might have seemed that Charlotte's speech did not cause any reaction from Kyoko, she did not start screaming or something like that, she didn't even change her expression. However, then her grip on Charlotte's shoulder tightened. Not so much that the Frenchwoman felt real discomfort or danger, but it was a sure sign that her words had touched some strings of the champion's soul.

Kyoko took the microphone and it turned out that she really had something to say to the pink-haired woman. The more she talked, the more the audience outside the stage felt the tension building in the air. For a moment, Charlotte wanted to clench her fist because of the blind contradictions in Kyoko's words, but she managed to restrain this impulse. The biggest challenge for Charlotte came at the moment when the champion mentioned Alizeh and Akari, she had to remember all the training she had gone through over the past seven years.

With great difficulty, but the Frenchwoman managed to keep her mind clear and not give in to emotions. She always believed that emotions were her main enemy. And although she didn't think that things would turn out this way, Kyoko really set up a test for Charlotte, who was famous for her composure. After a few seconds of staring intently into the American woman's eyes, she picked up the microphone.

You've mistaken the stars reflected on the surface of the lake at night for the heavens," she said in a lower voice than before. “We already had a champion who, like you, defeated many and who used not the most pleasant methods for this, perhaps at the moment her name was loud, but now no one is calling her name." Charlotte smoothly raised her left hand and placed it on Kyoko's hand on her shoulder. “Not out of respect, but because she left nothing to be remembered for.” Charlotte was tired of physical contact with the purple-haired woman, so she intended to remove Kyoko's hand from her shoulder, even if she needed to use some force to do it. “Are you saying that there's no one in the roster that you can't beat?” For the first time since their conversation began, Charlotte's lips curled into a grin, even if only for a second. “It looks like the power corrupted you after all, because if it were true, you wouldn't have to stand here right now and explain why you're not always able to win on your own.” After that, Charlotte slightly tilted her head forward as if trying to look into the soul of the purple-haired woman. “Do you think there's at least one theoretical situation where Astrid would have called for my help to gain an advantage and defend her title?”

She might be calm, but she wasn't an idiot. Kyoko's attempts to hurt her did not go unnoticed. Yes, she had built a reputation for being a cold-blooded woman, but that didn't mean she didn't know how to respond to such barbs. And now it was her turn to test how strong Kyoko's nerves were and whether she could keep her cool after that. The Frenchwoman snorted before continuing.

I see that you are confident in your rightness and your right to use any methods to remain a champion for as long as possible,” she said, after which she sincerely sighed heavily, she really felt a little sad that this concept was so firmly rooted in Kyoko's mind. “I won't dissuade you, I'm not a judge, juror, or executioner. However, you're definitely wrong about one thing. You're not invincible. There are no invincibles. So one day you're going to lose, Kyoko, and after that we'll find out if your methods helped write your name into history or if you made sure with your own hands that your name would be forever forgotten by fans who wanted to see you a worthy champion.” It might have seemed that Charlotte had forgotten about the last question Kyoko had asked her, but that wasn't the case. “Unlike you, I chose the path of honor, not vanity, so I won't say that I'm better than anyone on the roster, I won't even say that I'm better than Alizeh and Akari.” At this point, it might have seemed that Charlotte had succumbed to Kyoko's authority after all, but... “Instead, how about you meet me in the ring and then you won't need my words because the match will show you who I am and what I'm capable of!”

The conference room was filled with noise and she handed the microphone to the champion, this time it was Charlotte's turn to end her speech with a smile, not a sinister one, but the most ordinary, because she knew it well that in an argument, more emotional pressure is exerted by someone who remains calm in both mind and voice, so her smile was the epitome of her calmness.

She waited for Charlotte to respond or even ponder what she said and like before she could see the wheels turning in the girls head and even some anger brewing from what Kyoko added. But before the Sand Lizard could continue she ended up bringing up previous champions who did similar methods but was remembered less for them than Kyoko was. "Because that's all she could do, and she did it whenever she wanted too like a coward. When someone strong got in my face I could beat them down and I've proven that before I ever got here." Kyoko said making it clear she saw a huge difference between her and anyone else who used those methods. Then Charlotte brought up Astrid, likely because she knew that she was a woman Kyoko immensely respected and felt the feeling was mutual, but Charlotte was a friend of Astrid and was making it clear she had a better idea of how the blonde might be thinking. "If she wouldn't, she should. I'm sure you and I both know that as admirable as Astrid is she can be too stubborn for her own good. But if she loses that title to anyone unsavory she'd regret not being able to pass the belt off to a worthy fighter." Kyoko fought back while Charlotte soon found the chance to force Kyoko's arm off her shoulder, irritating the Belly Queen even more when she continued to speak and try to reject the Queen's ideology as if she even had a clue. Telling her she's not invincible...and that Charlotte would never say she's better than others all to irritate Kyoko. By the time Charlotte actually challenged her to a match Kyoko was fed up with letting her speak.

"invincible? Maybe not but that doesn't matter when you are better than everyone else, which I am! I've defeated top stars from every division while almost none could say the same about me. You call it honor to be humble but all that does is make you and so many others annoying, it's not vanity to point out the strength you've proven just like I've proven mine time and again. You think you can match any of that? I look forward to wiping that smirk off your face and by the end we'll see how much your honor is worth when I beat your ass and have my championship raised over your head!" Kyoko said, getting some buzz from the crowd when she did. While she didn't outright say yes, few could interpret those words any different from a direct announcement that Kyoko would meet Charlotte for the Middleweight Championship. It seemed the fans would be getting the top voted match they wanted after all.

If in the early stages Charlotte was the one who had to hold back Kyoko's onslaught, now the women seemed to have changed places. Now the champion was the one who became angrier and more irritated with every action and word of the Frenchwoman. When Kyoko answered the question about Astrid, Charlotte couldn't help but raise her left eyebrow, as if finding the purple-haired woman's words nonsense.

She had heard from Astrid many times that Kyoko made quite a double impression. Nevertheless, the blonde has always spoken more than warmly about the middleweight champion. They weren't enemies. They weren't friends. They were something in between these concepts. However, now Charlotte found it hard to believe that her best friend thought she had a lot in common with Kyoko.

Not so long ago, Astrid asked Charlotte to cover her back in a match against Emaline. Only if one of the Emerald Viper's sycophants tried to interfere in the match, because Astrid was determined to deal with Emaline on her own. Perhaps this was the main difference between Astrid's approach and Kyoko's. After all, judging by the words of the champion, if she were in Astrid's place, she would not object if Charlotte intervened in the match not to even the odds, but to give her an advantage.

This conversation has clearly stopped bringing pleasure to both sides. And when that happens, it's best to end the conversation. That's exactly what Charlotte suggested, openly offering the middleweight champion to meet in the ring to find out who was right. Kyoko did not openly accept this challenge, instead confining herself to promising that she would wipe the smile off Charlotte's face and stay with her championship in the end. Charlotte just stared into Kyoko's eyes for a few seconds, then nodded as if confirming Kyoko's words.

Perhaps...” she said, slowly closing her eyes before abruptly opening them to reveal that pink lightning was flashing in them. “Or perhaps your title will pass to a truly worthy successor, because that's what, by your own words, you care about so much, isn't it?”

At that moment, Charlotte's aura changed. If she exuded an unshakeable calmness before, as if she wasn't capable of perseverance or anything like that at all, now she exuded an overwhelming aura of determination. Yes, she was always modest, preferring not to show off in public, but repeatedly taking part in the hardest matches. Her rating might have dropped by a few points after her recent defeat, but the fact remained. By many she was considered one of the most outstanding women in the middleweight division. Her versatility and sincere desire for self-improvement make her a truly unique fighter who does not back down even in the face of a woman like Kyoko. She never talked about it out loud, but it wasn't a secret that she had been heading for this opportunity for the past year and a half. And now she was ready to face the champion to show what path she had made in order to achieve her dream. Become the best fighter in the world.
