Nix had always dreamed of making it to LAW as a competitor. Wrestling had been part of her life for as long as she could remember. Many of her childhood evenings were spent watching her mother perform at small local shows, imagining what it would feel like to stand in the ring herself one day. Now she stood backstage at LAW, preparing to walk out in front of a crowd as an active competitor. But now that she was finally here, the level of competition felt far more immense than she had ever imagined. Before she fully realized what was happening, she had stepped into the ring for her debut match against Bengal the Blaze Tiger—and it hadn’t gone the way she hoped.

Bengal had lived up to her reputation, using a cheap trick during the match that caught Nix completely off guard. By the time Nix realized what had happened, it was already too late. The next thing she remembered was waking up flat on her back, staring up at the arena lights while the referee counted the final three. Her debut had ended with her knocked out in the middle of the ring and humiliated afterwards. The memory still lingered as she prepared for tonight. Wrestling had always seemed like a contest of skill and determination when she watched it growing up. But that first match had shown her that not everyone fought by the same sense of fairness that Julia had so diligently taught her.

Tonight’s opponent was someone different.

Her opponent’s name was Amity. From what Nix had heard backstage, Amity fought with a bit more integrity than Bengal did. Competitive and intense, but not the type to rely on cheap tricks to win. For Nix, that alone made tonight feel like a different kind of opportunity. By the time the announcement echoed through the hallway speakers calling her to the stage, Nix had already finished gearing up. Her bright yellow wrestling outfit hugged her athletic frame as she tightened her gloves and adjusted the padding beneath her gear. She wiped a faint bit of steam from her glasses before sliding them back onto her nose, rolling her shoulders as she tried to steady the nervous energy building in her chest.

Beyond the curtain the arena buzzed with anticipation. Then her entrance music hit—Britney Spears’ “Get Back” blasting through the speakers as the lights shifted toward the ramp.

Nix stepped out into the spotlight. The bright arena lights washed over her as the crowd responded with a mixture of cheers and curious murmurs. She walked steadily down the ramp toward the ring, slid under the ropes, and rose to her feet as the canvas shifted beneath her.

Adjusting her glasses once more, Nix turned her attention toward the entrance ramp. The arena waited for a moment before the next entrance began.
