Personality

Even from a young age, Michelle was a people-person. However, due to her rough upbringing, her experiences with people earlier in life were often not positive. Michelle persisted though, and through her job as a waitress in a high-end hotel, she became quite comfortable around people.
Nowadays, Michelle acts quite sociable and bubbly. She is not afraid to meet new people and has no trouble trying to spark conversation. New experiences do not seem to scare her either.
Michelle generally treats others with kindness and she can be quite empathetic. However, this kindness does not extend to herself. A lifetime of harsh beratement from her mother and coaches, her failure at the Olympics, and body image issues that arose from being a world-class figure skater ended up doing a number on Michelle's self esteem. She sees herself as a failure and feels like figure skating was her only talent in life.
But Michelle is not one to sit idly in despair. She is determined to improve herself and move beyond simply having a one-dimensional skillset. Whether it be her academics or her training for LAW, Michelle gives it her all. Deep down, however, Michelle feels inadequate and worthless, so she tries to excel in an attempt to mitigate those feelings.

History

Mikhaila was the illegitimate child of a wealthy Japanese businessman and an elite Russian figure skater who had thus far failed to capture glory at the Olympics. Immediately after Mikhaila's conception, her father jumped ship, leaving Mikhaila's mother Mila to raise her daughter alone. The pregnancy and subsequent responsibility of motherhood, however, denied Mila her one last shot at Olympic glory. Mila was forced out of her training camp in Russia and, for unknown reasons, decided to settle in Japan afterwards.
To compensate for her lack of success in the figure skating world, Mila forced Mikhaila into figure skating from a young age. Mila was rather cold towards Mikhaila, being harsh when Mikhaila messed up and showing only a tiny amount of warmth when she did well. Much of Mikhaila's early life was spent seeking these fleeting manifestations of affection.
Unsurprisingly, Mikhaila was quickly noticed as a promising young talent in figure skating. At the age of seven, Mikhaila and her mother moved from Japan back to Russia so that Mikhaila could attend an elite Russian figure skating school. The training was brutal and unforgiving, as were the trainers. But, in spite of the draconian methods, none could argue that the school did not get good results. While Mikhaila and her cohorts all became elite-level figure skaters, Mikhaila stood out even among her highly-skilled peers. However, rather than be celebrated by her peers, Mikhaila was met with jealousy and subtle ostracization.
Mikhaila's situation only got worse when her mother became a trainer at her school. At the hands of her own mother, Mikhaila sustained even more abuse than she had previously sustained from the other trainers. While Mikhaila was already used to abuse—e.g. verbal abuse, physical abuse, forced anorexia—it only got worse under her mother. Moreover, Mikhaila was treated even more harshly than her peers and was forced to spend even more hours on the ice.
Yet even abuse did not stop Mikhaila's progress. She proved herself to be a prodigious talent, to the point where she could land quads with relative ease. Her skills were so developed that she could even land quadruple axels on occasion—a move that had not yet been landed in Olympic competition at the time.
Naturally, Mikhaila began establishing herself as an extremely strong competitor. She won various competitions, quickly working her way up the ladder. Eventually, at the age of fifteen, she got her shot at Olympic glory in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchan, South Korea. She was set to compete in women's singles, in both the short program and the free skating segments—she was also the extreme favorite going in, expected to capture Olympic gold.
Her performance during the short program got off to a stellar start, and it appeared that she was on her way to win gold. She even attempted a quadruple axel, a move that had never been landed in the Olympics before. Her execution would have been flawless if not for the fact that her Achilles tendon ruptured upon landing. This caused her to fall, which prevented her from successfully landing the move. Worse yet, with a ruptured Achilles tendon, she was unable to complete her performance. In the end, Mikhaila was left broken on the ice, both mentally and physically.
It turned out that all of the sustained injuries and overtraining had ravaged Mikhaila's body, creating the perfect opportunity for injury. Yet, in spite of that, her mother and other coaches solely blamed her for her failure. Following her performance, Mikhaila suffered constant abuse from her mother and other coaches. She quickly became a shell of herself. The abuse did not let up, continuing even after she had resumed training one year after her injury. Her confidence shattered, Mikhaila began regularly messing up in training. Those around her began to abandon her, viewing her as nothing more than a failure.
Mikhaila continued her training for another year. However, she eventually could not bear the abuse and ran away just one day after her seventeenth birthday—no one bothered to look for her, though. The several months following her escape were rough, with the first month being particularly hard as it was during a Russian winter. Yet, Mikhaila persisted and eventually found a roof to sleep under. Afterwards, the next couple of years were mostly spent doing low-income work just to make ends meet. After bouncing around several jobs, Mikhaila eventually settled on a job as a waitress for a high-end hotel in Moscow.
During her stint as a waitress, Mikhaila got to serve many elites: politicians, oligarchs, royalty, business leaders, athletes, models, et cetera. Unsurprisingly, most of these people did not pay much attention to Mikhaila—however, there were some exceptions. Most notably, Mikhaila met several young women close to her age during her time as a waitress. She became acquainted with Patricia Langranges Corticarte, the then heiress
Patricia had since been disowned by her family.
of the Corticarte Conglomerate, while accompanying her father on a high-stakes business trip—Mikhaila and Patricia made friendly conversation, although the two were not able to relate on a deep level due to their backgrounds being drastically different. On a different occasion, Mikhaila met Mami Okabe, who was part of an idol group doing a show in Moscow. The two managed to form a slight connection and have remained in sporadic contact with each other.
The deepest connection that Mikhaila managed to form was with Asuka Satō. The two met when Asuka had been staying in Moscow for a a modeling event. While serving Asuka at the hotel's high-end restaurant, Mikhaila managed to strike up a conversation with Asuka. While they started with small talk at first, Asuka and Mikhaila soon realized their similar backgrounds. Afterwards, the two became close friends and would keep in touch.
However, even though Mikhaila made a livable wage at her job and got to meet—or at least briefly interact with—many interesting people, Mikhaila was not entirely satisfied with her life. After being an elite athlete for so long, Mikhaila found it a little lackluster being a waitress. Yet, Mikhaila did not wish to go back into figure skating. At the same time, she did not have very many skills outside of figure skating. Mikhaila felt trapped because of this.
It turned out to be Asuka who ultimately introduced Mikhaila to a way out. Through chatting with Asuka, Mikhaila found out about LAW. Soon afterwards, Mikhaila noticed that her old acquaintances Mami and Patricia were also signed to LAW. The pay also seemed decent, and LAW even offered tuition assistance for university.
Thus, Mikhaila moved to Japan, becoming Asuka's roomate. Mikhaila joined LAW, choosing the ring name "Michelle Diamond" for herself. She also decided to try applying for university, and managed to get into Waseda University by the skin of her teeth
The lackluster education she received while training as a figure skater combined with a lack of mastery of kanji made it difficult for Mikhaila to get into Waseda. However, her intelligence and sympathetic background just barely managed to get her through admissions.

Secret
  • Mikhaila currently lives in Japan, and is roommates with her friend Asuka Satō.
  • Mikhaila studies at Waseda University.
  • Mikhaila's ring name "Michelle Diamond" has a couple of inspirations.
    • Michelle is both similar to her own first name and happens to be the first name of the figure skater Michelle Kwan.
    • Mikhaila wanted to use a surname that related to ice but had difficulty coming up with one. Eventually, Mikhaila remembered that the bartender at the hotel restaurant that she worked at had a device that made diamond-shaped ice cubes. This motivated Mikhaila to choose "Diamond" as her fake surname.
  • Mikhaila is a fan of anime
    • Anime helped Mikhaila become fluent in Japanese (although she already had exposure to Japanese due to living in Japan when she was young)
    • Mikhaila is a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • At 169 cm, Mikhaila is tall for a figure skater.
  • Mikhaila has an eating disorder, namely anorexia.
    • This developed due to her time as a figure skater. The "ideal" frame for a female figure skater is short and light, which helps facilitate certain jumps. Mikhaila struggled immensely to fit into this frame.
    • The fact that Mikhaila is tall for a female figure skater caused her to put immense pressure on herself to lose weight. This tendency mostly started when she hit her growth spurt at eleven years of age.
    • Despite no longer being a competitive figure skater, Mikhaila still has anorexic tendencies, albeit to a lesser degree now.
  • Mikhaila is fluent in two languages (Russian, Japanese), and proficient in English
    • Her proficiencies in terms of CEFR levels are:
      • Russian (C2), Japanese (C2), English (B2)
    • Her fluency in Russian comes from the fact that had previously she lived in Russia since she was seven years old.
    • Her fluency in Japanese is the result of living in Japan for the first seven years of her life and being an anime fan. However, she her fluency with reading and writing kanji leaves a little to be desired.
  • Original idea for the character (NON-CANON):
A rebellious former elite Russian figure skater who is resentful towards being forced into the sport from a young age. Decided to join LAW to both have fun and to spite her parents.

Intended to fill a niche on my roster, namely that of a lewd, no strings attached hentai wrestler.

¹ "Michelle Diamond" is her ring name. Her real name is Mikhaila Vasileva.
² "Kuma" means "bear" in Japanese.
³ Had Michelle been born just one day later, she would have been unable to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics (Source).
