The LAW crowd was suitably hyped tonight, energized by the promise of a fairly big match, and one that had come out of nowhere. Bast, one of the newest, biggest talents on the heavyweight scene, had been on a bit of a tear since she made her LAW debut, wracking up a small streak in the past few months and impressing everyone with her devastating strength and raw brutality. After having a demolition derby of a match with the titanic Stone, everyone thought she would spend the next few weeks resting and building up for the next match, but those expectations were dashed when she - or, more precisely, Cersei - made a challenge to an unexpected opponent.

Tina Armstrong.

As imposing and dominating as Bast had been in her debuting weeks, there were some who thought she was punching above her station by taking on a former and likely future champion. If that was a concern on the mind of Cersei, however, she didn’t show it now - at this moment, she stood in the middle of the ring as Bast’s theme music died down, pacing around the squared circle as Bast stood in the middle of the ring, arms folded, staring straight down the ramp like a living monolith. The crowd booed them, as always, but she was undeterred, and spoke through the microphone, letting her sonorous voice drown them all out.

”Quiet, quiet everyone.” To the surprise of no one, the crowd only grew louder, but Cersei just smirked and went on. ”We’ll begin the slaughter soon, don’t worry. Before we do, however, I’d like to share a short story with you, one that I think will have a certain significance to a certain woman - namely, Alaina Sanders.”

That brought out a cheer from the crowd, as the well-liked heroine drew love from the Japanese onlookers. She’d become a staple in the wrestling world, a pillar of the community, one of the most respected names in their sport.

Precisely the reaction that Cersei wanted. ”Alaina, I wish to share with you the story of the dinosaurs. You see, long ago, they lived and dominated this world. They were found on every continent, spread across the globe, and were a key piece of every ecosystem. They were dominant, unassailable, the master of their domain, and it seemed as if nothing could challenge their reign…that is, until something finally did.”

Cersei stepped back and put a hand on Bast’s shoulder, giving it a gentle rub as her sister kept her place, just as she’d been told to. ”You see, Alaina, in the end, all it took to take down the dinosaurs was a rock. A meteor. A chunk about the size of a mountain that could’ve flown anywhere in the universe, but by a billion-to-one chance, it smashes into this planet and alters the entire course of history. The moral of this story, Alaina? The meteor comes for us all, sooner or later. Everything crumbles. Everything dies. Fear it, run from it, it will make no difference. The end is inevitable and your clock. Is. Ticking.”

With that out of the way, Cersei stepped back and set her focus to the curtain alongside Bast, waiting for her opponent to come out. Needless to say, but she’d been waiting for this moment for quite some time…

Tina was backstage smiling and shaking her head while the mouthpiece for her next opponent kept running her mouth. "Does she ever shut up?" Tina said aloud as she paced and waited for her chance to make her entrance. Instead of her usual entrance though Tina asked for a mic so she had it in hand when she entered the arena.

Tina came out all smiles as the crowd cheered on the tigress. Tina was strutting her way down the ramp with a confident grin on her face. "If ya think I'm afraid because you are bigger than me you are wrong. If ya think needing someone to do the talking for ya makes you a big deal you are really wrong. Bast, I won a title here n' I will win more. This middleweight is gonna show you what a force in between the ropes looks like." Tina said as she threw the mic to the side and slid into the ring underneath the bottom rope.

Alaina didn't care about anyone calling her old, people had been doing that since she came back in 2017. Tina however took exception to some new wrestler showing up acting like she owned the place. Tina was already qualified for Apex because she was a champion. She had been labeled as a glorified stepping stone by her detractors but she had enough confidence in herself to show her supporters in the crowd that their faith in her as a contender was well placed. Beating down Bast would go a long way in proving that.

Tina bounced from foot to foot waiting for the bell to ring, and when it did she would waste no time in moving in at Bast looking to swing her leg around and aim a hard kick to the side of her opponents head!

It was a good thing - a very good thing - that Cersei liked to do all the talking in these deals. The truth was that she wouldn’t have known what to do with a microphone in her hand. Public speaking had never been her thing, not in her native tongue and definitely not in English. She was more than happy to stand still and look stoic during these deals while Cersei riled her opponents up, and judging by the way Tina responded, the bait worked perfectly.

Sure enough, Tina came down with more than a little vinegar running through her veins, and she brought it with her into the ring, bouncing around, a loaded spring ready to burst. Cersei just gave her a quick, frilly wave of her fingers, then hopped out of the ring as the referee moved into place.

Fist ups, leg out, position locked. Bast moved into her fighting stance, and gave her foe the once over, taking her in from head to toe. She knew her record, an impressive history across LAW. It might’ve been easy to dismiss her with the clear size difference between them, but that record wasn’t nothing to be ignored. Cersei might not be taking her seriously, but she was.

Usually, Bast’s opponents liked to take it slow from the opening, trying to feel her out and find the right way to approach. It never worked out for them, but that was the most common play.

Tina didn’t seem to get that memo - she came in hard and hot, swinging her leg high for a fierce kick. Bast was just able to get her arm up in time to block it, but she could feel the power that it was packing. Impressive force from the middleweight class.

It was tempting to return fire, but she backed off instead, raising her other arms and securing a tight guard. No offense, not just yet. She wanted to see what this woman would do.

Tina felt the block, Bast had power all right. That kick would have forced back many a guard but not hers. This wasn't good. Tina spun back around with her own defense up but Bast was holding. Okay... okay fine. Tina lunged in looking like she was going high but she would drop down and kicks her legs out looking to bring them together at the front of Basts ankle and the back of her knee to try to send her to the mat with a drop toe hold!

Cersei didn’t like this. She didn’t like this one bit.

The match had only just started, yes, but this was already a far cry from what she wanted with this match. She’d told Bast that they needed to dominate, to crush this woman right from the start and send a message to Alaina. But instead of coming out like a fireball, her opening was less than inspiring - she was being defensive, against a woman she outweighed by dozens of pounds. ”Bast!” She smacked the apron. ”Stop playing around.”

Bast could hear her sister’s call, but the woman might as well have been miles away as far as she was concerned, a distant noise that she paid little heed to. Instead, she stayed focused as her opponent came in again. It seemed as if she were going high, but she changed levels at the last moment - slick - and came at her legs, snapping ankles with a drop toehold.

Bast brought her hands up at the last second, keeping her from faceplanting. She rolled forward right after, popped to her feet, and came at Tina with her first burst of offense, raising her leg and shooting it out, trying to connect with a stiff push kick to her chest.

Tina sent Bast down, but it didn't have the effect she had hoped for. The tigress ran at Bast looking to leap up and smash into her but Tina leapt right into a kick to the chest! "Ugh!" Tina groaned as she stumbled back rubbing her chest as she hit the mat on her back, rolling over and getting to her hands and knees. Tina rubbed her chest in the kneeling position before bursting out at Bast looking to leap up and fly at her with a dropkick to the chest to retaliate!

”Higher!” Cersei’s cries rang out as Tina took a fall from the kick. ”Go for the head, knock her out!”

It was more than a little annoying that, for all the matches her sister had watched, she still seemed to have only a passing grasp of the way matches were supposed to work and what her particular fighting style entailed. She would’ve loved to go for this woman’s head and score a quick knockout with her Khopesh, but the range wasn’t right and she couldn't afford missing the move. She had to go for what was reliable, especially at this stage of the fight.

And it paid off, though perhaps not in as grand a way as Cersei might’ve liked. The woman was knocked back, dropped to her knees, and looked vulnerable. Bast moved in for the kill…

…and wound up running into a dropkick, head on.

The blow slammed into Bast’s chest, and while it wasn’t enough to knock her down, it came far closer than she would’ve liked. She went stumbling back, almost fell to her knees, but she was able to stay upright and erect, albeit a little wobbly, as she tried to shake off the hit.

Tina was pissed that she didn't knock Bast down, but the heavyweight had some size on Tina to say the least. The tigress wasn't going to be deterred though, she was going to smash Bast and hurt her pride. Tina was strong and fast, her lean defined muscle on her frame not just for show. Tina was rushing at Bast full speed looking to fly at Bast and extend her arm to lariat her and hopefully stun her heavyweight foe... and fire up the crowd... by taking her down!

While Tina wasn’t the strongest opponent Bast had faced, not even the strongest in LAW, her power was nothing to sneeze at, especially for this weight class. She might’ve been a middleweight, but there was a lot of stiffness in those strikes, a drive that punched harder than you would expect. It was easy to see why she had captured and held onto gold in this company - these were the blows of a champion, driven with a will to win that you didn’t see from every competitor.

But Bast could deal with it. She would handle it.

As Tina came in with a head of steam, looking to follow up from the dropkick, Bast was ready. Instead of rising all the way, she dipped back down and came low. One arm went between Tina’s legs while the other reached up to grip her neck, pulling the smaller woman over her shoulder in a fireman’s carry. She rose up in a swift, single motion, then kicked her legs out and fell backwards, aiming to smash Tina into the mat with a samoan drop.

This wasn't going well at all! Tina felt herself grabbed as Bast moved much faster than Tina ever expected getting hold of the tigress! Tina was up on her shoulders and came crashing down to the mat in the blink of an eye leaving Tina flat on her back writhing on the canvas after having her dropkick painfully countered. Tina groaned and tried to roll away she needed to recover and keep Bast from taking advantage of this but at the moment there was little she could do about that.
