Past + Personality
To say that Anya Young grew up like any other child would be an absolute lie. The young Thai-Black girl grew up with a few learning disabilities and some odd...quirks, to say the least. Anya liked to do things that girls her age didn't. She liked to be all rough and tumble with the boys, play with sticks like they were swords, and pick at bugs in the mud. To say that she was an outdoorsy girl would be an understatement. Living in LA, many of her fellow classmates wanted to be actors, celebrities, influencers, etc...but Anya wanted to be something a little different. A professional wrestler! She loved the drama and the silly stories they told. She adored the interesting and bizarre characters...and the cool moves they pulled off were AWE-INSPIRING to the young woman, and they still are today, especially when SHE'S the one performing them...
Many of her peers called her weird...an outcast...a freak. But to Anya, she didn't care. Her parents had taught her to be strong and to remain truthful to herself even if that version of 'herself' stood out from the crowd. After all, there was only one 'her'...and if it didn't 'fit the mold' along with everyone else, then that should be looked at as a good thing. Anya wasn't weird. She was unique. She wasn't an outcast. She was a trailblazer. She wasn't a freak...She was...well, herself. As she understood it, these things brought her happiness. She didn't care for the opinions of others. She wanted to spend her time living her life the way she wanted. You only get one of these, right? Why waste the time you've got worrying about what everyone else wants you to do with it? This manifested in Anya as having an impulsive lifestyle. She said what she wanted, did what she wanted, and ate what she wanted whenever, however, and for whatever reason.
Then, one day, she stumbled across some old family photos from her mother's side...She didn't know much about her Thai heritage, but she did see photos of her great, great ancestors. Shamans, priestesses, wise elders, and other types of mystics. Her mother informed her that her blood was filled with the spirit of the 'arcane'...She meant it as a joke, but Anya took this to a whole new degree. Other kids sorted through different phases and fads as they grew up, but Anya was different, to say the least...She adopted the mentality of a powerful occultist shaman, pretending to cast hexes and curses upon those who dared to call her 'weird'...going so far as to scare some of them with her own silly 'rituals'...Over time, the girl became quite the theatrical type, taking it upon herself to embrace her heritage in her own way. She started taking Muay Thai lessons during her middle school years as a way to get in touch with her family's history while getting some of that extra 'energy' out of her system...she also became a track star in her later years during high school...Both extracurriculars were used as methods of self-regulation and discipline, but Anya saw it as vigorous training for her shaman abilities. To channel the mystic arts, one would surely need a fit body capable of doing so, no? So Anya trained and achieved newer heights, believing that she'd one day take on the world itself with her incredible 'abilities'...all by her lonesome.
That was until she met a certain girl named ChaCha Luana...The timid Samoan-American girl was the first person to really call the shaman-loving 'outcast' a friend. The pair ended up together when they both ended up being by themselves due to ChaCha being shy and Anya...well, being Anya. Despite the odds, the differences, and the drastically opposing quirks and attributes of both girls, the two hit it off great!!! They became great friends overnight despite the vast distance between them. A numbers exchange turned to weekly landline phone calls, which evolved into nightly video chats until both young women could see each other in person once Anya's family moved closer to San Francisco. Eventually, the two grew closer together and graduated high school, sharing the same goal of becoming famous professional wrestlers!!! Soon after graduation, they set sail for the pipe dream of a career and set a course for their local wrestling school. Both women took to wrestling quite quickly, having watched and studied since they were kids. However, putting everything they learned into practice was a different affair. They both stumbled and struggled a little before finding their footing...but they succeeded as both individuals and a ferocious tag team duo, working their way up the rankings through different promotions. With Anya's charismatic personality and intriguing persona as a shaman priestess fighting beside her chosen warrior in ChaCha, who brought the fury of a thousand tempests and storms, the crowd EASILY cheered and praised the duo for the incredible dynamic. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and it would bring them great recognition, skyrocketing them toward a contract in one of the biggest promotions on the planet...LAW!!!
Personality: To say when Anya's personality is an act and when it's real is difficult. There may be a chance that both sides are literally the same!!! With Anya, you can never really tell. Whether in the ring or outside, the shaman girl is a very dramatic enigma. She can get weird, dastardly, and even perverted in matches as she talks vividly about the spells and hexes she's cast upon the terrified souls she faces. Whether the curses and spells work or not really depends. She doesn't exactly make friends, mainly due to the fact she isn't exactly normal.
Despite her rather weird nature, Anya is a good person, as her best friend ChaCha knows well...it's just that often she doesn't exactly SHOW it, more having fun playing up her charismatic personality and intriguing people with shaman priestess persona, loving to play up to the crowd who love giving back just as much to the shaman girl!
Trivia
- Anya was diagnosed with ADHD when she was younger. Her parents used Muay Thai as a way for her to not only get in touch with her Thai culture but as a means to give her an outlet for her energy. It also benefitted Anya by giving her something to focus on and providing additional structure and discipline.
- On top of making voodoo dolls based around her opponent's appearances, Anya has a habit of stealing and making shrines out of things she has from opponents that she likes. These shrines are created in hopes of making her opponents fall madly in love with her...Of course, this perfectly logical master plan is usually ruined somehow, foiled by outside interference...it is totally not the result of when she is forced to give the stolen items back, and ChaCha is definitely not the person who has to tell Anya this.
- Outside of her spooky, shamanic character, Anya actually practices legitimate magic tricks. She mainly does stuff with cards and sleight of hand, finding wonder in going out to the local park and making kids lose their minds with her tricks and magic. It's fun to see them all laugh, smile, and go crazy at how cool it is. Seeing the wonder in their eyes makes Anya happy.
- Anya's face paint and 'shaman markings' are done by herself! She picked up painting as a result of learning more about makeup accessories. Sometimes, ChaCha will act as her model for her to try new colors and patterns. She typically goes for a more macabre look...So often, ChaCha comes out looking like a demonic warrior goddess.
- A long time ago, Anya won a gold medal during one of her high school track & field meets. She won it during a 400m sprint at the regional level. It currently hangs up in her family's home on the mantle next to a picture of her. It shows her on the verge of tears, looking incredibly happy and accomplished. However, when she is in character, Anya denies all evidence of this as a powerful sorceress of the arcane arts and shadowy voodoo magic such as herself would NEVER shed a tear...NEVER!!!
WRESTLING INFO
Strategy: Anya has two primary goals whenever she enters the ring. First, win...simple enough. Second, put on a spectacular performance. Her background in Muay Thai provides her with a solid set of skills for dishing out damage, often landing her knockout blows that lead to easy pinfalls. Her professional wrestling training gives her a well-rounded style. However, she is not the best wrestler and mainly sticks to her striking. Her training with wrestling is primarily used as a backup and to give her defensive capabilities that account for her smaller body type and shortcomings as a grappler.
As for her second goal...Given her 'spooky' background, she uses her 'shaman' abilities to entertain and dazzle, playing up her witchy, sorceress-themed gimmick to its fullest. Speaking of her character, she has some 'incantations' that she chants that will 'empower' her future moves. She also has voodoo dolls in the shape of her opponents that she'll use to curse them with. In terms of attacks, this mainly consists of using heel-ish tactics when the referee isn't looking...things like using her staff as a weapon, poison mist, eye rakes, etc...She typically plays the villain. However, her antics can occasionally make her an anti-hero whenever she's fighting a bully or an even worse villain.
Preferred Attacks: Punches, Elbows, Kicks, Knees, 'Snap' Move Variations, Dropkick Variations, Rope-Hung Moves, Springboard Moves, Hip Attacks, Camel Clutches, Poison Mist, Stinkfaces, and Headscissors.
Preferred Matches: Standard, Tag Team, Smother, Hentai, 'I Quit' Matches, Tables, Multifall, Steel Cage, Ironwoman, Hardcore, and Knockout (Boxing, Kickboxing, and MMA as well).
Attitude towards Hentai: "KYAHAHAHA-!!!...YOU FOOL!!! YOU'RE PRACTICALLY BEGGING TO BECOME MY LITTLE TOY!!!"
