Standard Match: Victory by Pinfall, Submission, or KO

- A few days earlier, in the LAW offices -

“...And that’s why I thought she was just part of the cleaning staff!”

“I mean, she was wearing a maid outfit and wiping down a vending machine. What else was I supposed to think? I even handed her a garbage bag...!”

As the embarrassment finally caught up with her, Blonde Blazer covered her face with both hands. Judging by the laughter slipping through her fingers, however, she did not seem all that distressed by the memory. BB was perched casually on the corner of someone’s desk. One leg crossed over the other, she gestured tirelessly with both arms as she continued her story, looking as though she had always belonged there. “So, tell me, Robert. Oh- how’s your dog, by the way?” What followed was another one of BB’s characteristically corny jokes. The staff already seemed accustomed to her presence. Everyone continued working, occasionally chuckling at one of her silly jokes or shaking their heads in exasperation. The strange part was how much BB seemed to know about their personal lives. She knew who owned a dog and who had been dealing with relationship problems.

“...Anyway, I don’t mind taking on villains, but am I really the only heroine around here?” Robert offered no answer as he continued flipping through the profiles in front of him. “It’d be nice to have a friend! Maybe I could even try.. a tag match sometime...” BB clasped her hands together, her eyes sparkling with excitement. At that moment, Robert’s hand stopped. The profile before him featured a woman with dark turquoise hair and a cowboy hat pulled low over her head. Robert looked between the profile and the blonde woman still chattering away on the edge of his desk. “Balance is important...” he murmured the words beneath his breath. “Yes. Balance is key.”

Ordinarily, a wrestler could not simply walk into the office, ask for a friend, and expect a match to be booked for her. Yet among the countless things BB had said, one happened to align perfectly with a growing concern inside LAW’s booking department. The LAW roster had been steadily tilting toward the heel side, and the booking staff had begun to take notice. Too many heels made it difficult to build promising faces or guide tweeners toward one side or the other. Eventually, the number of worthwhile matchups would begin to shrink. Perhaps putting someone still standing on that boundary against someone as bright and principled as BB might have a positive influence. If everything went well, a single match could solve two problems at once.

Robert’s attention shifted toward a coin resting on one side of his desk. An angel had been engraved upon one face. A devil upon the other. He examined both symbols before setting the coin upright and spinning it across the surface of his desk. As it turned, the angel and devil blurred together into a single indistinct circle, belonging completely to neither side. Perhaps it was not such a bad gamble. Robert picked up the turquoise-haired woman’s profile and began comparing it against several others. None appeared to satisfy him. Each time, after only a few pages, he shook his head and moved on to the next. Matching weight classes alone would not be enough. Sending an unprepared wrestler against someone like this could result in an accident before either woman had the chance to put on a proper match.

Finding someone capable of matching her would not be as simple as it seemed. Naturally, Robert’s gaze drifted toward the blonde woman sitting on the edge of his desk. Height. Weight. Frame. Power... Most importantly, the resilience to withstand punishment without breaking. Robert’s eyes narrowed. It might be dangerous. But it would also be an opportunity to discover how much Blonde Blazer could withstand, and how many times she could rise again. “You know what?” BB’s chatter immediately stopped. “I think.. I might be able to find an appropriate match for you.” “You can..?” “You might even meet someone... who could become a very good friend.” BB’s face lit up at once. “A new friend?! You’re the best, Robert! I can’t wait!” She hopped down from the desk and hurried out of the office with an excited spring in her step. Robert watched her disappear through the doorway before glancing down at the coin, which had finally stopped spinning. Which side had landed face-up was hidden beneath the tip of his finger. “...Or perhaps the exact opposite.”

- Present day, LAW Arena -

Upbeat entrance music filled the arena as brilliant pyrotechnics erupted around the stage. Emerging through the dazzling light was none other than Blonde Blazer. Wearing a radiant smile, she waved enthusiastically toward the audience as she made her way down the ramp. Upon reaching the ring, she slipped between the ropes and immediately climbed onto the nearest corner. From left to right, BB blew kiss after kiss with both hands, determined not to neglect a single section of the audience. The louder the crowd cheered, the brighter her smile became. Finally stepping down from the corner, BB made her way toward the center of the ring. Only one thing remained. Meeting her “potential new friend.” The arena lights slowly began to dim. As though rehearsing the handshake she intended to offer, BB flexed the fingers of her right hand once. Then, with anticipation shining in her cobalt-blue eyes, she turned toward the entrance and waited.
