Born to a rather wealthy family Ilaria never had many troubles that most would consider of much importance. That however would be an oversimplification as her parents and much of her surroundings held conservative beliefs she found repugnant. Being who she was she would not be quiet about that and has met a lot of backlash from it but it would not deter her as she deeply believed she was right.
At a point when it came time for her to begin college her parents couldn’t wait to get rid of her. They held themselves to a certain standard and couldn’t bear how would people look at them if they made the girl fend for herself so they made a deal, they would pay for whatever university she chose, preferably abroad, and pay for her expenses and she would not show her face again (yeah, her parents were horrible, rich and horrible). She chose to study medicine in Tokyo.
She already knew the language so that was not a problem and making friends was even less so. She did look unusual which drew some attention and thusly made her interact with a lot of people. Her most significant acquaintance would be someone who drew her attention, however. Having made a few friends who were into pro wrestling Ilaria knew who Akiko was, she might not have been in any big promotion but she was making waves in the indies and Ilaria loved the spectacle her every match was. Much to her surprise, Akiko didn’t at all treat her like just another fan and it wasn’t long before they became good friends. It would be a lie to say Ilaria had only friendly thoughts about Akiko or Kenshin when she met him, and with how Akiko was it took just a little course correction to make that duo into a trio with neither of the others quite sure when it happened but happy for it.
Now for the elephant in the room, how did someone like her end up on the LAW roster and not as a young lioness? Well, there was certainly a lot of “We need another jobber” thinking but as it happened, other people who tried out at the time were doing so badly that they ended up putting her over so much that the recruiters believed she knew what she was doing. One in a million chance but it happened and it sure surprised both Akiko and Kenshin when they found out.
