It was a long shot, shooting his knee up like that to try to hit Homura in the head. And unfortunately, it was an attack that Homura saw coming: her head tilted backward, almost effortlessly evading his clumsy knee-strike in a breeze of flowing blue hair. In response, she seemed to tighten the backbreaker even further: Kyo felt his back being curved and arched against the jagged rock that was Homura's knee, and his spine felt like it was about to snap and pop any second now. It was taking all of his willpower not to cry out in agony.
Then, finally, Homura released Kyo, letting him flop to the mat. A shallow gasp of relief escaped his lips: his back was throbbing in agony, and numb pain radiated up along his spine. He felt himself being shoved over on the canvas, rolled onto his back...and then Homura's boot pressed against his cheek, and for a moment Kyo felt like his skull was being crushed against the mat.
For a moment, despite the pain he was in, his arms and legs flailed. The ref came and immediately started a countdown. "ONE..." Kyo twisted sharply, narrowly getting a shoulder up as he pawed at Homura's boot, groaning as he tried to relieve the pressure on his skull...
