”It’s easier than you’d think. I bought a few things and made most of it from home in Ireland. I don’t have full plate or even half plate yet. That’s what I’m hoping to build up to now that I get a higher paycheck here. But whether it’s HEMA or fantasy beating each other with foam weapons, there’s nothing like it. Say, do you want to get cleaned up and go bar hopping?” she asked.

Admittedly, as Moira started to describe how she could LARP with just about anything she had at home, Karen thought back to what she could possibly do for a LARP. Back in New Zealand her family had a lot of old Maori jewelery and outfits that had been passed down, plus a lot of traditional items were not that hard to find on the streets of Wellington. But at the same time...she didn't want to step over a line at all. She was Maori, through and through, but she didn't want to go out of the way to make a spectacle of her heritage.
She was brought out of it when Moira suggested they get cleaned up and go for some drinks. "Best suggestion of the night!" she replied with a grin. "I'm sure there are some decent sake joints in town!"

The two women proceeded to go out and drink until the bars closed. While they would undoubtedly have more battles to come, out of the ring a strong bond was forged.
