Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Gabi's attempt at a counter-attack were thwarted by Rem as the other wrestler read her move, ducking low to meet Gabi and forcing the pair into a grapple once more. Flustered, Gabi tried to hold her ground, mind racing to try and think of what she was supposed to do in this scenario - how to transition from this lock up into a clean move.
That moment of indecision cost her again, as Rem was already enacting a plan of her own. In a sudden motion that caught Gabi off guard, Rem suddenly stopped pushing against her, instead falling back and pulling Gabi with her. Caught by surprise by the shift in weight, Gabi lurched forward, straight into the outstretched leg of her foe!
"OUUGH!" she blurted as the wind was smacked out of her by the kick and she was catapulted backwards, thudding to the canvas flat on her back, spluttering for breath. Before she could gather the wits to process what had happened, Rem was upon her again neatly rolling onto Gabi's body and hooking her leg for a pin attempt!
"ONE!"
Frustration boiled up in Gabi - she was better than this. She had to be! Before the count reached two she let out a screech of effort and bucked her muscular body wildly, hoping to shift Rem's weight enough that she could twist to the side and raise a shoulder off the canvas.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
While Rem's maneuver in the lock up worked and she was able to kick Gabi onto her back, her attempt at immediately pinning her opponent off of that was far too hasty. Even Rem herself knew this as she went for the pin, but she told herself that the armbar had been working so well at first that Gabi might be weak enough to just stay down.
But no, Rem would not be that lucky. The bluenette was able to get to a one count, but Gabi quickly twisted and pushed her body up and broke Rem's pin by force. Rem was rolled onto her back by Gabi's pushing and bucking, and now they were both lying on the mat next to each other. It would be a scramble for who could jump on the other first, but Gabi had a head start since she was already part way off the ground.
Rem would make an attempt to get Gabi first anyway, since trying to retreat from this close would only ensure that her opponent got her. But knowing that she was at a disadvantage already, Rem decided to get creative and take a risk. The bluenette would put her hands up behind her head, as if she was laying down on a couch.
Rem's act would leave her entire upper body exposed as bait. If Gabi got too greedy and only saw a free opening, Rem would punish her with a counter from her lower body. Rem would pull her legs back and try to wrap them around Gabi's waist for a bodyscissor. But if Gabi didn't get caught, holy hell would Rem be vulnerable.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Gabi's violent twisting was more than enough to dislodge Rem, her strength serving her in good stead as she sent Rem rolling to the side, leaving both wrestlers down on the canvas. Scrambling she tried to get up before her foe, not wanting to lose the initiative again and fall prey to further submission moves!
However, when she got to her feet she saw that Rem was still lying on the canvas, her hands behind her head and her body open for an attack! Not thinking any further than that, the flustered Young Lioness rushed over to her prone opponent, looking to drop an elbow onto Rem. Unfortunately, her lack of attention to detail was her undoing as she blundered straight into the vice-like bodyscissor that her foe had been planning all along!
"No-GNHH!" Gabi blurted in surprise as the squeeze around her waist quickly tightened. She gritted her teeth in frustration. Stupid, so stupid! she thought. But unlike the armbar, this hold didn't send her crashing over the edge in pain and she had a moment to think. And she decided to play to her strengths.
Gabi leaned into the hold, wrapping her strong arms around Rem's thighs. Then, with a howl of effort she would try to lift Rem up off the canvas before dumping her back down in a simple slam, hoping to just do enough to dislodge the grip of the other Lionesses's thighs.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Rem knew that she could be setting herself up for disaster if Gabi was able to snatch up the bait while avoiding the trap, considering that Rem herself was the bait. But fortunately for the bluenette, Gabi headlong straight into the jaws of her trap. Rem locked in her bodyscissor, and now she had to figure out what to do from there.
Immediately Rem began trying to drag Gabi down off her feet and onto the mat, but the brunette wasn't having it. She fought to keep herself upright, and was able to use her strength to fight against the force of Rem's legs trying to pull her down. Then Gabi grabbed Rem's legs, underneath her thighs, and began to pull her up instead.
"What? No!" Rem cried out as she was lifted into the air. She tried to release her scissor so she could disengage from Gabi before she got slammed, but the bluenette still remained trapped in Gabi's grip. And then the brunette threw her back down. "Ah!" grunted Rem on impact. She was once again down on her back, undefended. But this time she truly was vulnerable to an attack.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Gritting her teeth through the pain of the bodyscissor, Gabi managed to keep herself upright and her low, powerful frame kept her in good stead as she was able to heave Rem up off the canvas. The other wrestler tried to release her legs and escape, but Gabi clung on, lifting her up and smashing her back down into the canvas.
The pressure around her waist disappeared in an instant and she gasped with relief. But this was merely one move - she needed to keep her momentum going and fast, before Rem recovered.
Heart thumping and flushed with her first successful move, Gabi reached down to grab Rem by one arm. Then, in a single powerful heave she would try to yank her foe upright and send her hurtling at the ropes with an Irish Whip. If her opponent came bouncing off the ropes back at her, Gabi would then try to use Rem's momentum and scoop her up into a simple bodyslam.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
"GAH!" A pained hiss escaped Rem's mouth as her back collided with the mat. And she knew that more was coming if Gabi was at all good enough to belong here. And come the follow up did, as Gabi grabbed Rem by her arm and lifted her back up. Thinking on what she would have done, Rem prepared herself for a submission, but instead was thrown at the ropes.
"Ah!" Rem yelped as her body was flung away. Gabi was strong, and Rem knew that she would take some serious damage if she couldn't stop her attack. But Rem had training, and that training had taught her how to escape spots like this. She didn't want to try charging back at Gabi, so she went for a more passive option.
As Rem neared the ropes, she crossed one leg in front of the other, intentionally tripping herself to kill her momentum and keep her from bouncing back towards Gabi. Rem also slung an arm over the ropes to both keep herself upright and to make sure she didn't end up stumbling back into a hit. The match had reset, but Rem would take it a bit slower this time around.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Gabi managed to achieve half of her follow up attack as she heaved Rem off the canvas and in the same motion launched the other woman at the ropes. She braced, ready to catch Rem on the rebound, but it never came. The other wrestler tripped into the ropes and killed her momentum stone dead, stifling Gabi's attempt to get some offense going.
Huffing with frustration, the young Canadian stomped to the centre of the ring, knowing there wasn't much she could do until Rem was away from the ropes. Once Rem was once again ready to face her, Gabi wouldn't waste any time, however, lunging for a lock up and attempting to quickly transition to clamping the other Young Lioness in a side headlock.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
As Rem careened into the ropes and and fell into them by tripping herself. As a result, any attack tat Gabi may have had planned for when Rem bounced back was rendered null. Instead, Gabi simply took center ring, her body language telling Rem to come out and get her. And of course, the bluenette would oblige.
Once Rem was in range, Gabi shot forward, and Rem met her in a lock up. Both rookies were grappling, shifting, and maneuvering to try and catch the other. Eventually, Gabi swung around to Rem's side. The bluenette tried to push Gabi out with her hip, but the brunette got past and wrapped her arm around Rem's head, pulling it in against her side to trap Rem in a headlock.

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Gabi met Rem in their grapple and the pair jockeyed for position for a moment, battling to gain the upper hand. Eventually, her strength held her in good stead as Gabi was able to shift her position and out manoeuvre Rem to pull her foe into a tight side headlock, feeling a slight blush in her cheeks as Rem's face was pressed tight to the side of her breast.
Now what?
She tried to think as she clung to the struggling Rem. What to transition into? Shifting backwards to make herself some space, she attempted to hold on to her opponent and launch into a run, attempting to pull of a Bulldog and drive Rem's head into the canvas!

Re: The Young Lioness Cup: Gabi Pelletier vs. Rem Mathers
Rem wasn't worried about the side of her face getting pressed into Gabi's chest. She wrestled other girls long enough to be plenty used to things like that. Her sole concern was escaping this headlock. Problem was that Gabi's strength was making that rather difficult. She held the bluenette for awhile, but her grip was too firm for Rem to do much about it.
Eventually, Gabi backed up, and then ran forward to set up a bulldog to slam Rem into the mat with. Once the bluenette realized this, she quickly tried to wrap her arm around Gabi's legs to throw off her run up. Even if this worked, Rem would still probably take a hard landing onto the mat, but it would be a lot better than getting slammed face first. Plus it'd be harder, but not impossible for Gabi to follow up.
