2019 LAW in Review!
This idea is pending moderator approval, but I wanted to see how the community felt about having a community award show(?). Our community is both incredibly supportive and incredibly niche! In the spirit of the Holiday season I thought it would be fun to have an Out of Character/Discussion thread where we can nominate some of our favorites for recognition! It gives us an opportunity to celebrate the matches of our friends and all the hard work we put into bringing this niche interest together. The very nature of what we do here is cooperative and collaborative!
The rules I'm thinking are:
There'll be a list of catagories. Things like "Best f/f Match, Best f/m match, Best Squash, Most helpful Community Member" etc. Open to ideas here! What do we want to celebrate?
Each community member can give one nominee per category, their own or one from their friends! Then, they'll be posted in poll format with each nominee having a link to the topic so we can read it!
The winners then get recognized in a larger thread. They can put their nomination/award in the accolades of their character page. And most importantly, new players can refer to that thread as a vertical slice of matches we, the community, have chosen to celebrate for the year!
I want this to be an opportunity for us to celebrate eachother! We're all part of a team and I think it would be fun to give each other the gift of recognition! I would be happy to collect the nominees and put together the threads! The votes will be counted using a public poll.
Any thoughts?

Re: 2019 LAW in Review!
That's a good suggestion. I was thinking maybe not nominating yourself for more than one or two categories. I know I personally don't have the time to read all the threads and it's a good opportunity for some players to show off threads they're really proud of. Threads we might have missed because we're all so busy working on real life and our own threads! It defeats the purpose though, if we all nominate ourselves haha.
We should treat this in good faith! And if it isn't, for some reason. We can always take it down/delete it. But I think we're all happy to be a part of a community of open-minded individuals! So let's lift each other up!

Re: 2019 LAW in Review!
I like the spirit of this and I think it's an idea that actually could work within reason. There's a lot of fun to be had and pointing out specific characters and threads is great for getting people's eyes on cool writing that they would have otherwise missed. I think it's great.
I caught wind of some of the feedback from users on discord that had qualms with the idea. Most of those qualms stemming from the idea that users who don't win might feel self-conscious of bad about their characters/matches/work and the idea that it's hard to be sure you've taken everything into account since not all users read all threads.
However, I feel that it's possible to get around these concerns if a couple conditions are met. The first being that the so-called LAW in review can't be conducted by myself or any other mod. If people feel it's an official contest or assessment, they'll grow even more upset if they're not noticed. By making it from the perspective of a single user, or even better, making it in the style of praise thread we had going a while back, where anyone can chime in, I think becomes easier to be more inclusive of everyone and make (almost) everyone happy. We just need to be clear that it's from a user's perspective, i.e. "I think Jane Doe is the best tragic character" or "winner3's match of the year" rather than "best character of 2019 goes to this person".
Those are my initial thoughts anyways. It'd be cool to see the idea grow into something wholesome and fun, I think

Re: 2019 LAW in Review!
Thanks winner! That's awesome feedback!
I was planning on moderating the whole thing for that very reason. But also. Im new so I dont want to step on any toes! My idea for voting was so it was anonymous and everyone could participate and have fun. I wanted people to be exposed to as many awesome threads as possible, hence the nominees.
However, I think a thread with people's individual superlatives would work really well. Ala "Sucker Punch's Favorite Threads of 2019". My worry with this is that everyone's picks would get lost in the static. Part of my objective was to cultivate a small list of matches and characters to show new and old players examples of what we do here!
I really appreciate all your ideas. I think with a little more help from creative minds like yours we can refine this to something everyone is having fun with. I want to eliminate the spirit of competition and replace it with the spirit of celebration and praise!

Re: 2019 LAW in Review!
How about if a certain thread is mentioned enough times we throw it onto a different list that would be semi-official
