Location: A busy bookstore
It was a quiet afternoon, and Holly Matheson needed an escape. Even more so than usual, actually. Life wasn’t easy for the Loser’s Champion, and all the hours spent in the gym, or doing promotional material at LAW’s behest, were starting to wear her down. Even the everyday reality of holding wrestling’s biggest “booby prize” was wearing her down. She wasn’t sleeping well, fans snuck pics and teased her on the street, and every time she logged onto the internet there was a new gallery of her ass getting kicked in different and ‘hilarious’ ways.
So, it was time for an escape. Holly decided it was time to head out, on her own, away from the internet, leave her drowsy boyfriend with the baby, and get back to basics. Maybe plunge into a book, like she used to. A cute comedy perhaps, or an exciting fantasy. Yeah, probably fantasy. Anything to take her a couple of steps away from cold, hard reality for a little while.
Holly dressed casually, an old concert tee with a knee-length skirt, big stompy boots and a leather jacket. She smiled. Then, she saw it, near the door. The Loser’s Championship belt. By LAW rules, Holly could be in a lot of trouble if she was seen without the damn thing. She groaned. Reaching out, she pulled her ‘title’ off the counter and slid it around her waist. She pouted, realizing how snugly it was fitting. Holly bet the last Loser’s Champion didn’t have that problem. She zipped her jacked up, at least hiding the thing from view, and stepped out.
Holly arrived at the bookstore and made a bee line for the café. The incognito British Bombshell ordered the chocolatiest, sugariest thing she could find on the menu, and looked around the store. The barista put her cup on the counter, and she took it. Instead of her name, they’d drawn a chibi version of Holly’s face, crying, with X’s for eyes. Holly sighed. Clearly someone was a ‘fan.’
Holly tried to brush it off, and head to the magazine rack. The words were still mostly alien to her, but she still loved Japanese magazines for the colors and pictures. Maybe that would be a good place to start her day …
