Well, I intend to change that, as I've come up with a tentative ruleset to help make them work. I gotta give full credit where it's due to Noob here, as I'm ripping off a good deal of his Last Woman Standing tournament for how this is managed.
- Before the thread is posted, a random number generator will be used to generate the order of eliminations, as well as who is eliminated by whom. Planning for this in advance will cut back on the chaos of trying to figure it out on the fly, as everyone will know going in who will win and when each character will be eliminated, so they can set things up accordingly. Of course, how each elimination happens will be up to the users to decide, but it must happen in the prescribed order. Eliminations performed by multiple wrestlers at once will also be allowed if everyone involved is on the same page, but they must involve the designated eliminator. As in the tournament, it will be possible for users to trade places in the elimination order if they so wish and if they agree upon it mutually, but that should be decided upon before the thread begins.
- If more than one wrestler is present in the ring at a time, a post order will be decided, again using random numbers. Once everyone has posted, another order will be generated and the next round of posts will follow this sequence, and so on. For instance, say there are three wrestlers in the ring, controlled by posters A, B, and C. The order is determined to be ABC, so A posts, then B, then C. After C posts, the next order determined is BCA, so B posts, then C, then A. This way, we get to capture some of the unpredictability of a battle royal, while still having an organized method of keeping track of who posts when.
- If only two wrestlers are left in the ring, then there's no need to generate random orders - they'll just alternate posts as a traditional thread.
For our first battle royal, I'm planning on something simple - a traditional setup where 15-20 wrestlers start in the ring and battle it out until only one is left. Elimination will be by pin, submission, or being thrown over the top rope, and all weight classes will be able to participate. There's certainly room for even larger matches and your staggered entry Royal Casino Honor Warfare for the Gold in here, using random numbers to generate the entrance order as well, but I'd like to see how the basic rules work in practice before we try to bite off more than we can chew, for now.
If it sounds interesting to you, just let me know! As I've said, I want to get around 15-20 wrestlers for this, but we don't need 15-20 posters; if it's less than that, I can throw in my own characters or allow each poster more than one entrant. Right now, we're just in the gauging interest phase. I already have some people down for it, but I want to see who else might be interested. If it's something we want to do, I'll make a Discord channel so we can work out plans with everyone.
I hope this might be a step towards making this match type possible on the forum, and I'll be happy to answer any questions people might have!
