Veronika's fingers lingered around Alanna's hand for a heartbeat before she slowly slipped free. A quiet laugh escaped her lips, though there was little humor behind it.

"You always did have such a beautiful heart. Even now... you answer with kindness instead of anger."

She tilted her head, studying Alanna with the same calculating eyes that had unnerved opponents for years.

"So that is it."

A faint smirk crept across her face.

"You traded the wolf... for a golden retriever."

She chuckled under her breath.

"Sweet. Loyal. Always wagging her tail for everyone around her."

Veronika folded her arms.

"Emma is talented, yes. But she wears her heart on her sleeve. I can see every thought on her face before she even speaks."

Her smile sharpened.

"It almost makes me... disappointed."

Veronika took a slow step closer, never breaking eye contact.

"I spent years teaching you how to survive sharks. And now you have fallen for the gentlest creature in the room."

She shook her head.

"I wonder how long that innocence survives this business."

A sly grin spread across her lips.

"I would love to see whether that cheerful little golden retriever can be broken."

She let the words hang for a moment before clarifying with a casual shrug.

"Not her bones, Alanna. Her spirit. Her certainty that everyone deserves a smile."

Her eyes gleamed with competitive curiosity.

"Can she still beam at the world after enough defeats? After enough betrayals? After someone finally teaches her that kindness is not always rewarded?"

”To be honest, I don’t know. I believe in her. I believe in her goodness and her strength of will. But I’d be lying if I said I thought you were full of shit. I don’t know how this business will change her, but she’s my partner and I’ll always fight for her. I regret that I didn’t have the courage to fight for you. It may in the end boil down to tragic timing and my lack of experience back then. But for what it’s worth, I enjoyed my time with the wolf and wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

A predatory smile slowly crept across her face, eyes narrowing as she studied Alanna.

“Then perhaps I should find out for myself, hm?”

Her voice thickened as she leaned closer.

“What if I were to get my hands on your poor little Emma? Push her, torment her… find every weakness behind that pretty golden smile until she finally cracks?”

A quiet chuckle escaped her.

“Would your little golden retriever be able to survive me, Alanna?”

Alanna leaned in closer herself. Their faces inches apart. ”I won’t let you.”
She grabbed Veronika’s hands and pinned her against the wall, pressing her chest against Veronika’s.
“I am glad you’re back in my life, but if you do anything to my Emma, I’ll hurt you. I’m not the scared girl in the bar afraid of her own self anymore.”

A wild, almost manic laugh burst from Veronika as Alanna pinned her against the wall.

“Istenem! There she is!”

she exclaimed through her laughter,

“Where was this Alanna when I was dating you, hm?”

Before Alanna could answer, Veronika suddenly twisted her wrists free and reversed their positions, overpowering her and planting Alanna firmly against the wall.

“Oh, drágám…”

Veronika purred, flashing that predatory grin inches from her face.

“You threaten me while standing this close? You really have changed.”

Then she abruptly seized Alanna and whipped her across the bathroom. Alanna crashed against the sink before tumbling onto the floor.

Veronika immediately followed her down.

“Perhaps Emma has made you brave. Let us see if she has made you better.”

Her legs snapped around Alanna’s neck, trapping her in Alanna’s own figure-four headscissors. Veronika crossed her ankles and squeezed, looking down at her former lover with wicked amusement.

“Recognize this, szerelmem?”

she teased.

“Your favorite little trick… only I do it better~"

The pressure on Alanna’s neck ramped up and her vision began blurring. A part of her enjoyed being in between Veronika’s thighs again, but now she was fighting for Emma. So she resisted.
”Good thing I’ve learned to counter my my little trick!”
Alanna exhibited her much improved upper body strength to lift up Veronika and slam her into the wall powerbomb style.

Veronika’s smug expression vanished the instant she felt herself rising off the floor.

“Várj—what?!”

Her eyes widened as Alanna powered her upward, Veronika’s legs instinctively tightening for a second before panic took over.

“Alanna! Put me-!”

THUD!

Her back slammed hard against the wall, instantly breaking the figure-four as the impact knocked the breath from her lungs.

“GHHH!”

Veronika crumpled downward, landing on the floor with a stunned gasp. One hand immediately reached behind to clutch her aching back while she stared up at Alanna in genuine disbelief...
