The Prima Donna's Diary - Chapter 13: Pathway to Pugilism

Ami was bullied back into the ropes, with Peggy managing to stack her up on them as she buried her glove into the tinier woman's waist, nailing her with a volley of blows that caused the petite Prima Donna to cough. After enough punishment, Ami dropped down to one knee, letting out a huge gasp before entering a slight wheezing fit, needing a moment to catch her breath after Peggy knocked the wind out of her. The referee would step between the two, ushering the triumphant Peggy toward a neutral corner while beginning to ten-count for Ami.

Ami could've shot right back up, but she had enough experience to know that it was never a good idea to waste this time. She didn't take too many hits to the head, so she was more than capable of standing on her own, but she had to make sure she had enough energy to close this round out. It was likely that Peggy had not only caught up but seriously overtaken Ami in points. On top of that, the pugilistic redhead had won out in the battle of morale, scoring the first knockdown in a rather dominant and unmistakable fashion. Still, Ami had plenty left in the tank to keep going, so she'd take one last deep breath before beating the count at six, getting her gloves dusted off by the referee before being cleared to continue. With nothing left to stop her, she threw her guard up and approached Peggy once more, not holding back as much as one would think as she tried to close the gap quickly. With a little under a minute left, Ami would try to fight the urge to retreat, not wanting to give Peggy any more ground as she met her halfway with some range-testing jabs.

Peggy wailed and wailed into Ami until the smaller woman had to take a knee from all the volley of shots she suffered. Peggy was backed up by the referee and ordered to a neutral corner as Ami was counted out. Not exactly the knockdown Peggy wanted, but she figured this spoke to Ami’s resistance in the ring and she just had to feel good about not only leading in points, but also striking first blood in grounding her opponent for right now. Ami got up and looked like she wanted to get back in this doing a short check-up with the referee before she cleared her for combat. Peggy came back in standing a few spaces away not wanting to just go back to being aggressive. She knew Ami was going to want to get some revenge and even though Peggy pretty much won the round with the time left, her coach would want her to not take any chances and get knocked down into oblivion. Ami came in with some jabs to test the waters as Peggy switched to defensive blocking them where she could before backing up halfway through trying to play “keep away” for the rest of the round.

With Peggy playing keep away, Ami was left to chase after her, trying to find an opening in the ginger woman's guard. Of course, with Peggy having more control, it was hard for Ami to establish a good foothold, especially after recovering from that knockdown. Fortunately, she had a real moment to rest, whereas Peggy had to manage her breathing following all those punches she landed. Even if they were successful, they were costly, and Ami bouncing right back into the fray would hopefully scare her a bit. At the very least, Ami had to try and close the gap to give herself a better chance in the next round, ducking low and charging forward as she popped back up with what seemed like an incoming left hook aimed right at Peggy's cheek, quick enough to slip around her glove unless Peggy managed to parry it in the nick of time. However, that was all a clever feint, as Ami intended to fake the redhead out by dipping right back down and sending her left glove straight into Peggy's ribs, sidestepping to get a better angle as she launched her fist forward, curving it slightly to try and maneuver around Peggy's guard just in case.

Peggy just needed to keep her head held high and out of Ami’s grasp, but the Primma Donna Darling was determined to shed some blood of her own in a metaphorical sense. She came right up ducking low to where Peggy couldn’t interrupt and went for a seemingly easy enough hook into Peggy’s cheek. Peggy just tried slipping out and raising her guard, but Ami wanted that to happen as she diverted the fist right into the ribs! Peggy’s cheeks puffed as she used her teeth to clench onto her mouthguard and she quickly needed to act. There wasn’t much left on the clock for the round and Peggy figured she made her point so she went in for a clinch as well as wrestling Ami onto the ropes even if the referee was going to scold her! She won the round so that’s all that mattered to her right now!

Ami's glove landed nicely against Peggy's ribs, her arm slipping beneath the ginger woman's defenses as she made clean contact. However, Peggy would quickly grab hold of the brunette, pushing her back into the ropes with a sudden clinch that saw Ami being put on the back foot right when she gained a semblance of momentum. The two would wrestle and grind away at each other against the ropes, with Peggy's frame bullying Ami down more and more, sapping her of her stamina while her face loomed near the redhead's chest. With nowhere to go and no energy to fight back with, Ami wrapped herself around Peggy as tightly as she could, wanting to prevent any last-second attempts at a sudden knockdown. Peggy already had the lead in this round, but she couldn't be too safe.

DING!!!

Once more, the bell rings, and the second round comes to a close. Ami separates from Peggy, sweat coating her body. She brushes a few loose strands of hair out of her face with an exasperated sigh before returning to her corner. Once she sat down, her second got to work in helping her cool off in hopes of refreshing her before the interval was over. Peggy was a smart fighter, and with the weight and height advantage over Ami, she was certainly using that to her advantage whenever possible. While this round was a bust for the Prima Donna Darling, she was keen on making a statement in the third round before Peggy could widen the gap between them any further. For now, she rested and contemplated a plan going forward.

Peggy held onto Ami as the pretty brunette tried fighting her way out and tried shimmied around the holding, but Ami was learning that she was wearing herself out and had to concede victory to Peggy for the second round. The bell rang as the referee stepped in to break apart the two and she gave a verbal warning to Peggy that she can’t overextend in clinching her opponent. Peggy took the chewing out and just nodded an apology before going back to her corner to sit down as her corner got to work in refreshing her mind. Peggy also got some words of wisdom from her coach and he mentioned that he noticed Ami tended to get desperate in those last few seconds when Peggy took her advantage away. Peggy noticed it too and it actually worked well in her favor as Ami wasted her energy before the round ended. Sure, she would gain some back during the break, but Peggy needed to wind her down again.

Peggy figured she needed to make Ami super desperate in this next round and thought over in her head a perfect strategy. Maybe she needed to play more defensive and reactive. Guard then punch for an opening. Clinch for escape if necessary. As long as Ami was willing to decrease her energy, Peggy was going to have a field day with her when she switched to her slugger offense.
