In the locker room, Kyo took a deep breath as he finished his stretches. He had been intense matches before, against opponents he knew would be hard to defeat; the Iron person bout against Valerie immediately came to mind. But this was the first time in a long time he was facing off against someone who actively had it out for him, and made no secret that she wanted to destroy him in the ring.
Homura Kōgetsu. He had managed to look her up in the LAW database after their first encounter. Apparently, she was a well-trained pro wrestler known for being skilled, versatile and adaptable. From what the database had to go on, she was a legacy wrestler herself, whose father had once been a pro wrestler as well. And apparently, she was known, in the ring, for having a calm, almost stoic demeanour. In all of these respects, she and Kyo were very much alike.
Where they differed was that, for whatever reason, Homura seemed to have it out for other legacy wrestlers: she had already had one brutal match against Belinda Northman. And now she seemed to be gunning for the Akamatsus-- and specifically Kyo-- next.
The injuries from that day in the dojo had more or less healed by this point. Homura hadn't been out to cripple Kyo, but to send him a message. And that message had very clearly been received: I intend to destroy you.
He took a deep breath, and steadied his thoughts. Homura had a vindictive, cruel streak to her that he had to be ready for. He had no doubt that she would be as heelish in the ring today as she had been in the dojo. He could not abide insults to his family, or to himself; he could abide heels less. He would be ready for Homura today, he told himself. He would win.
His phone, currently sitting on the shelf of his locker, buzzed at that point, showing a single message from Makie:
Kyo smiled. Makie had been hurriedly trying to improve her skills for a chance at a rematch with Belinda Northman. Along the way, she and the Swede had ended up becoming friends. When Makie had found out Homura had attacked Kyo, she had flown into a rage, and had been on the verge of rushing off to attack Homura herself, eager to get back at the woman who had hurt her brother and her friend. It had taken a lot of effort on Kyo's part to get Makie to calm down; even so, it was comforting to know his sister would be cheering him on today.I'll be in the stands today.
Kick her ass bro. I want to bring some good news to Belinda.
At that point, he heard his theme song start to play. With a final, exhaled breath, he exited the locker room and strode into the arena.
