I've been thinking about the previous LAW Rumble. Battle royals and Royal Rumbles are definitely one of the hardest match types to pull off in a play-by-post format, and there have been several attempts before, including by myself. However, I do think that the LAW Rumble managed to do the concept justice and create a thread that was cohesive, enjoyable, and finished in a reasonable time frame. With that in mind, I think it was a successful proof of concept, and if people are down for it, I would be interested in relaunching the idea and making it a regular event. I thought it was a lot of fun, and the concept offers some great opportunities for character interactions and appearances by lesser-used members of peoples' rosters, or perhaps even an opportunity to debut a new character. I think there's a lot it can offer LAW.
The concept would be done much like the original LAW Rumble. I will recap this here.
In-Universe Rules
- A given number of women - it was 11 in the last Rumble, and that seemed to work out pretty well, but that might be expanded based on the amount of interest - enter the match over time, starting with the first two entrants in the ring, but with an additional wrestlers joining in at regular intervals.
- Wrestlers are eliminated from the event by being thrown out of the ring. They must go over the top rope and both feet must hit the ground to be considered eliminated.
- The last wrestler in the ring once all participants have entered is declared the winner. They will be given a guaranteed title shot for a championship of their choosing.
- The winner of the event will be determined randomly. If the user of that character is not interested in having them win, an alternative option will be picked, or they may nominate another character of their choosing with permission of their owner.
- The order of entrants will also be determined randomly. It will be presented to users before the event goes live; users will then have the opportunity to request spots be switched with other users, with the permission of all involved, if they so wish.
- Wrestlers would enter at about a rate of one entry every 1-2 pages. This is a rough guide, as the action will move slower when more users are involved. I will alert users when it is time for their characters to enter.
- When characters are eliminated, by who, and how are up to the discretion of the users involved. It is encouraged that eliminations be fairly frequent to keep the action moving and avoid having too many characters present in the ring at one time.
- Users will post in the order that their characters entered. Thus, if Character A, B, C, and D are in the ring, and entered in the order A>B>C>D, the post order is A>B>C>D. If Character C is eliminated, the order becomes A>B>D. If Character E enters, the order then becomes A>B>D>E.
- All users will be added to a Discord server prior to the event. This server will be used to plan and coordinate spots, and announcements will be made there when it is time for a new character to enter the match. Additionally, the current turn order will be displayed for all users, and users will be reminded when it is their turn.
- If a user wishes to drop out of the Rumble, or go inactive, if they are already in the match, their character will be eliminated by one of the wrestlers currently in the ring. If they have not yet entered, an alternate entrant will be chosen.
- Users must have completed at least three threads to qualify for this event. There are no requirements for characters to qualify.
If people are interested in the idea, please let me know below so I can gauge if this is viable. If I get enough interest, I will reach out to the users involved to determine what characters they would like to use and to set up a Discord server for coordination. Currently, the event will most likely go live around Summer 2025; I have spoken with the event coordinators and they have described this as being the most open time in the schedule.
Until then, let me know what you think!
