Astrid got a new weightlifting set to use in the personal gym that the couple had stored out in another room in the ranch. She also got new wristbands for her wrestling attire and a brand new pair of hiking boots since her old working boots for the farm were getting tattered from constant moving. William got some hood ornaments for his old Volkswagen bus and new manga comics that he has been eyeing on his frequent visits to Japan that he hinted Astrid on and it seemed she delivered. William also got a tailored and fresh business suit to add to his wardrobe. Sarabeth got a new sketchbook since she had a passion for art and a new guitar key to replace one she lost. Sarabeth also got a songbook to write any new jingles or singles that came to her mind. The Ashworth family had one of their most eventual Christmases yet and they topped it off watching The Polar Express with a round of hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies on Christmas night bringing an end to their celebrations for the year. They spent the last few days shoveling snow out of the gravel driveway and off the hillside road and William had been taking down the tree and decorations for the last few days while Astrid and Sarabeth caught a flight back to Tokyo four days after Christmas.
It was back to the grind for the girls, but it was a special occasion that they were in the gym today. Astrid could be seen on a weight bench as Sarabeth stood above her stepmother spotting her as Astrid pushed her muscles to lifting the larger dumbbell into the sky struggling a bit as Sarabeth counted the reps.
“Let’s go, mom! I know you can push it further! 69….70….71….72. Let’s get to 75!” Sarabeth motivated as Astrid nodded breathing a bit heavily lifting a few more.
Astrid finally reached her desired number and racked the weights before sitting up wiping sweat off her forehead. Sarabeth grabbed her mother’s personal water bottle and handed it off as Astrid took it with a nodding smile before popping off the lid to take a much-needed refreshing swig of water.
“That’s the gears turning we like to feel! Good job!” Sarabeth praised as she sat next to her stepmother on the bench as Astrid took a few more drinks.
“Not bad for a few weeks of no lifting. I had to shake off vacation mode there for a bit,” Astrid stated as she set her bottle down.
“That’s why I started with smaller weights. I needed to get my lifting groove back. I knew you were instantly going for the real iron,” Sarabeth explained as she chuckled and tapped her feet on the carpeted floor.
“What do I always say? Start immediately with what you know even if you have to review yourself a few times,” Astrid replied.
“I hope you don’t have ring rust to go with it,” Sarabeth teased as she got up to stretch out her arms.
“I wrestled in the middle of the month!” Astrid protested as she shot a playful glare at her daughter.
“You are apart of a forgetful family,” Sarabeth countered as she pointed and grinned at her mother.
“For the record, your father likes to keep it simple and old school which I can appreciate and adore. It’s one of the many traits I married him for. It makes us compatible as a team,” Astrid explained as she got up and grabbed her bottle looking around for other machines to use.
Both of them grabbed the cleaning disinfectant and white paper towels to clean the bench off with before they decided to move on. They did some walking on the stair masters as Sarabeth grabbed the handles for support.
“Shit….I can never get used to these things,” Sarabeth wheezed as she took larger steps to keep up.
“You can at least watch your language, young lady,” Astrid scolded playfully.
“I’m an adult! I can talk how I please!” Sarabeth protested.
“That’s a decent way to get your skull knocked on and I always won’t be there if you get in trouble,” Astrid retorted.
