Before the Bell: A Chance Encounter

Thursday Evening - approximately 2 hours until the start of the show

To say that she wasn't nervous would have been a lie, but there was little showing that. The newcomer to LAW, was this smiling buxom beauty. Her long braid trailing behind her as the strolled through the backstage area. She knew that she had quite a bit of time before she was supposed to debut as the opener for the evening. Apparently it wasn't really anything that had been advertised much, Jeanne didn't know much about the match other than the name of her opponent - Elena Walker.

Being a rather serious competitor when all was said, Jeanne had done her research and found out that well, she hadn't had the strongest of starts. There were many ways to look at this of course. Some wrestlers might be annoyed at getting pitted against someone who didn't have a strong record. After all, some would say it was a victory handed to the newcomer. Others would say that Elena would be more hungry than ever for a victory and therefore it could be a rough start for Jeanne. It didn't matter how you looked at it, there would always be positives and negatives, there would always be naysayers and doubters. Jeanne didn't mind it, it was a part of the game after all. Instead she focused on what she had seen, the effort that Elena put in was admirable and she couldn't wait to step into the ring with her.

As she continued to inspect the backstage are of the arena, getting acclimated and figuring where everything was and where she was supposed to go. Finding the locker rooms, gorilla position and all she needed for tonight at least. Jeanne happened to catch the sight of her upcoming opponent from the corner of her eye. She recognized her almost immediately even if it was by just a glance.

Jeanne would walk over towards the blonde without a moments hesitation. "Excuse me. You're Miss Elena Walker if I'm not mistaken." Jeanne spoke out with a slightly cheerful tone.

Thursday Evening - approximately 2 hours until the start of the show

Sometime had passed from that brutal match with Hazel. Though she fell on the sword in the dying moments of the match, crowning the Highlander as the victor, it was a very gruelling affair, with both their bodies having marked with some nasty injuries; her spine and Hazel's belly being the prominent regions. For about a week she was admitted in the hospital, where her back was tended to and even the early parts of her physiotherapy were kickstarted there. At present, Elena was all but back in shape, with a slight ache still nagging at her back, even though it was very occassional and didn't cause much trouble.

Today, the third match of her LAW career had been scheduled, and from the looks of it, her opponent was another newbie looking to make her mark in this business. Jeanne Hastings was her name and not much could be retrieved about her, as expected of a debutant. But there wasn't even the slightest of complacency creeping up the blonde. This promotion was packed with talent and it would be foolish to underestimate anyone. Her match against Hazel was a case in point. Though she didn't play her down or feel superior in a any way, shape or form; Elena was certainly amazed and surprised by the redhead to come back from the jaws of defeat and turn the match on its head. That's generally not a fresh meat's forte.

So, rule of thumb, never be certain of your chances in a match and expect the worst-case scenarios-always. This was now bored into Elena's mind. Having gotten in the colloseum early, the blonde intended to get some food in from the cafeteria, before getting into some match-practice and a final workout before her match. Elena wasn't bitter about her previous loss at all, having lost fair and square and on merit in a contest going donw the wire, against an excellent wrestler. But still, a sense of dissappointment was still residing inside, gnawing at her for faltering so close to the finish line.

Elena didn't even realise she was inside the cafeteria until she was, which spurred her out of her thoughts. "Right...Food. Can't go overkill, but cannot starve...." the blonde muttered browsing around, with a protein bar in hand. The refrigerator revealed a freshly stored smoothie which was just what the blonde needed. A pleasant gentle voice rung inside her ears, as she picked the drink out of the fridge. Standing behind her was a woman, exactly her height, but with distinctive purple hair and from her tone, she didn't come looking to beef with her. The woman in question was her opponent for tonight, which was a surprising coincidence. The jury was still out as to whether the said coincidence would be nice or the worst. From the looks of it, Elena could make out that she didn't want any trouble, but chose to be on guard.

You are certainly not mistaken. I am Elena indeed" The blonde would respond with an equally exuberant tone."You are Jeanne Hastings, right?" her arm would extend for a handshake, preferring to not be the instigator of a confrontation. Who knows, maybe this woman was genuinely nice. "We both are scheduled to face each other later, no? Here, have this..." Gingerly placing her smoothie on a nearby table, Elena would then show her the protein bar she had and extend it towards her hand."Can't compete when running on empty!" A light chuckle escaped her lips.

Jeanne's gaze would shift towards the object in Elena's hands as the woman turned around to face her, though they soon returned back to make eye contact with the blonde. She would smile at her as it was confirmed that it was in fact Elena. At being met with a similar tone of voice, as Elena asked her to confirm her identity the British gal would nod her head.

" Ah yes, though you may call me Joan if you wish. A bit easier on most people's tongue." Jeanne said with a slight giggle. She would tilt her head a bit as she saw the protein bar being presented to her, she'd reach out for the protein bar and give a genuine smile to Elena. " Oh, how kind of you, thank you." Jeanne would say as she rang her fingertip along the protein bar, trying to figure out a way to meet this kindness.

She was quite surprised if she was honest. She knew that wrestling usually introduced quite a few people with rather big egos and it wasn't always you had such a pleasant interaction early on, though she wasn't going to complain. " Yeah, no kidding. Though usually that means to carb-up the day before." Jeanne joked a little. She'd ask Elena as she looked over at the smoothie she had placed down on the table. " Don't tell me I took your only protein bar? We can't have that." The Brit would then walk around Elena and go grab a couple of protein bars and a smoothie of her own. Gesturing for Elena to follow her to the counter so they could pay. Where Jeanne decided she'd try and pay for the whole thing, both her items and Elena's.

Elena, though outwardly friendly and cordial, was still expecting the purple-haired woman to display the cracks in her mask and reveal the real intentions underneath. It was completely understandable for her, better to be safe than sorry as they say. Her arm extended to give the bar, remained pensive, anticipating various scenarios unfolding from here.

But all of those thoughts were immediately quashed when Jeanne accepted the offer, her words so affable and appearing so genuine, which relaxed Elena's mind working overtime about various outcomes. "Ah, Joan? Hmm, that's a name I could call ya. There is also 'Anne' embedded in your name, or if feeling sporty, 'Hastings' could be the way to go!" Elena flashed a toothy grin."But, I guess I will stick with Joan for now, alright...Joan?"

"I like to think I carbed up enough for a match"Elena replied, looking as if she was lost in thought."Buuut...what you gonna do about the hunger cravings? Gotta fill up the tum, and make sure I am in a fighting shape to kick your butt" A light chuckle escaped her lips, as she gently bumped her fist against Jeanne's arm getting the last part out. There was something about this woman, but the blonde, didn't mind letting her guard down and talk a bit more comfortably...

Elena watched on attentively as to what the purple-haired woman was doing, her arms now consisting of couple of smoothies and protein bars from the fridge, walking towards the cashier. "Wait...you gonna pay for me too? Come on now, Joan" her tone was one of surprise. Looking as she was intent on doing so, the blonde gave in"Fine, Fine...Go Ahead. Looks like the next one's on me then".

After conducting the transaction, Elena would turn towards Joan, "Sooo..I AM planning to get a light workout in after I eat, you know, just getting my body to shake off the cobwebs"Rolling her shoulders, while speaking, the blonde would continue "Should we continue this very friendly conversation, as we walk towards the gym? Or if you have any other commitments, you go ahead, I will see you before the match." Elena hoped that the woman would choose the former option. Would be great to have some company walking in such a large facilty, even if the said company was your opponent for the night...

"W-well, if you prefer to be unique about what you call me, I suppose Anne works. Though most stick to Jeanne or Joan." The purple haired woman responded to Elena's musings. At the very moment the blonde at least seemed amicable, which spoke wonders for Jeanne's upcoming match, and judging by her physique it wouldn't be an easy match. All the more reason for Jeanne to look forward to their encounter in the ring.

While Jeanne usually wasn't one to fill up too much on food or the like before a match, she didn't have any problem indulging in a protein bar or a smoothie. Though if she had planned a bit better for this, she might have brought some jerky as that was more to her taste than your typical protein bar. Next time. As Elena bumped her fist against Jeanne's arm, the Brit would let out a chuckle. " In that case I suppose I will have to do the same, so I'm ready to thwart your efforts." Jeanne responded with a grin.

As Jeanne paid for their things, it seemed as if Elena was a bit surprised. Though Jeanne was already doing it as Elena questioned her. "Don't worry about it." Jeanne spoke in a curt manner, to make sure that Elena wouldn't try and feel obliged to repay the favour.

Once the things were paid for, the Brit would hand a protein bar to Elena. Cracking open her own bars wrapper, as she would munch on it a bit. She looked on at Elena as she spoke about getting in a light work out. " Oh? Well, aren't you diligent." Jeanne said with a soft giggle escaping after her words. " I'd love to walk with you, perhaps I'll get a light workout in as well. After all, I want to be in proper fighting shape to kick your butt." Jeanne spoke out as she returned Elena's earlier words right back to her.

"Uh Uh Uh..." Elena shook her head gently, from side to side, her tone carrying a thinly veiled assertive tone to show that she stood firm on her stance."when I say Imma cover for you next time, I meant it. I am...now...in your debt..." She bent her knee slightly and bowed her head down in a dramatic fashion."Kidding! Hehe....But I will pay next time, for the EXACT amount that you paid for, if you're wondering I might go overboard. Deal?" Her eyes scanned for the prices of the products purchased. "250..420..600..Hmm...I offer you, about 1000 yen worth of snacks to purchase. And that's that. No ifs buts and maybes. " Maybe now she had made sure to leave no room for a counter-argument.

Both of them walked in sync, out of the cafeteria, their stuff paid for by her rather generous opponent. Elena rolled the straw between her fingers, before gently puncturing a hole in the cover of the smoothie and took a slurp. Taking a moment to savour the taste and the pleasant blast of cold from the refrigeration getting a "Mmm" out of her; Elena turned her head to the side before speaking.

"Alright then. It would be nice to have company when working out." Elena chuckled. "I would like to see you try to get near my butt, much less kick it."

As she got the last of the reply out, Elena's eyes widened, before looking back at Jeanne, eyes narrowed. "How about..." Her voice shifting to a conspirational one. "We up the stakes a bit? An alteration to my earlier proposal, which I bet you will pique your interest.....The one who loses our match...has to buy the winner snacks, wherever she wants... Loser.Buys.Lunch."

A sly smirk crept up her lips. "I can see another fat wad of cash slipping from your fingers when the match is over..."

Jeanne found Elena's tone and mannerisms as she tried to be assertive in that she was going to pay the purple haired woman back. Jeanne though wasn't exactly going to allow that easily. She would simply shake her head and release a little sigh as Elena began to count how much the things she had purchased cost. Jeanne would simply shrug her shoulders and then let out a soft chuckle at the actions. "If you insist.....Then I will simply have to find a way to stop you." Jeanne jokingly let out as they walked off together.

"Well. You'll have to wait for the match for that my dear."
Jeanne spoke out as she walked alongside Elena, trading some friendly banter with her soon to be opponent. Elena then started to talk about her plan for their match, putting some stakes on the contest between the two of them. Jeanne would nod her head, and smile. "I think that's a splendid idea. Though it does seem as if this a veiled attempt at repaying me for earlier. Since I'll be getting a free lunch after this match, courtesy of your purse." Jeanne teased as she would look Elena in the eyes, staring Elena down just a little to show that she meant business when it came to their upcoming match.

"So, Loser Buys Lunch then. Deal?" Jeanne reached forward with her free hand as she would offer a handshake to Elena so they could cement the stakes of the match between the two of them.

When Elena was in the middle of process of finalising her repayment terms, she could see Jeanne almost about to contest against it, and the blonde was absolutely willing to not allow her to have any say in it. But the Brit didn't do anything of the sort and held back, or that's what Elena could make out. This woman, who barely knew her and vice-versa paid for both their items, and the fact that they both were to face each other in a couple of hours time, so Jeanne didn't even had to meet and introduce herself to Elena, must less going out of her way to spend money on her. Elena couldn't let it slide just like that.

The walk to the gym was a one of easy conversation and fun banter, and Elena was definitely feeling comfortable to engage actively. Jeanne didn't have an evil self afterall, and Elena was indeed relieved. Taking a bite of her protein bar, Elena listened to the Brit attentively and chuckled."We shall see in the ring indeed and well, if we are talking about butts, then I guess you would be able to get near my butt when I am hokking your leg up for the pinfall" Elena attempted to gently elbow Jeanne, a smug expression on her face.

The purple-haired woman seemed to be intrigued by the blonde's idea about the bet and agreed to it, and the stare from her eyes accpting the stakes showed that she was confident of her abilities, and Elena, never one to back down, stepped up to her, their gazes locked on and intense, but not of animosity, rather a healthy competition."Deal." the blonde shook her hand, with a determined smile on her face. This was going to be one hell of a match...

As Elena gently elbowed her and made that comment, the purple haired woman couldn't help but laugh just a little. She would smile towards Elena and nod her head. " I suppose that's true. However, expect to be the one getting pinned by me." Jeanne said as she would return Elena's smug expression with one of her own. When the question of the bet arose, that was when the two of them had a small staredown, both women's gazes locked and they then shook hands as the deal was made.

"I'll see you in the ring then. Elena Walker." Jeanne said with a confident smile on her face, before she decided to take her leave. Heading off to do a very light pre-match work-out to get her blood flowing and her muscles warmed up. She knew from this little interaction of theirs that this was without a doubt going to be one hell of a match and frankly she was looking forward to it.
