8 Years Ago: Renee Steinhauser VS. Bengal

Unread post by BengalTheBlazeTiger »

Thanks very much to my friend ReneeCockyUndercard for writing this introduction with me, and letting me use his OC! The following match takes place roughly eight years before Renee and Bengal became members of LAW. At this point, they are both part of a smaller indie federation.

Match Type: 1v1, Submission

Eight years ago…

The arena was small and dimly lit, but that didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the fans. They were crowded into the bare bleachers that lined the walls, waiting excitedly for the show to begin. The announcer climbed the steps into the ring and raised the microphone to his lips. There was a brief screech of feedback, and he hurriedly put it back down, fiddling with the switch before continuing. “Er…l-ladies and gentlemen,” he stammered, his voice sounding tinny over the cheap speaker system. “Welcome to Tag Action Wrestling!” There were a few scattered cheers.

The announcer continued. “We know that our fans here at TAW have come to expect the very best in tag team wrestling. B-but we’d like to do something…something a little different tonight…”

The audience shifted restlessly in their seats. They were indeed fans of tag wrestling, and they were worried they wouldn’t get what they were expecting. Boos began to rain down. The announcer stopped talking and flushed bright red, apparently unsure of how to proceed. But before the situation could get any worse, the crowd’s attention suddenly shifted to the entrance ramp, and they began to cheer wildly. Bengal was walking down toward the ring!

The nineteen year old wrestler looked much the same as she would later, during her time in ROW. But here, she was smiling broadly and waving to the crowd, a far cry from the heel persona she would come to adopt. Her outfit was also markedly different. This one was themed after a white tiger, patterned with black stripes and brilliant ivory flames. The bright blue contact lenses in Bengal’s eyes gave them a ghostly, otherworldly look. She slid lithely into the ring and beckoned the ring announcer for the mic, a somewhat patronizing expression on her face. The meaning of the gesture was clear: Please, let a professional handle this.

The announcer gladly did so, quickly handing her the mic. The crowd cheered even louder. Bengal waited a moment for the noise to die down before she spoke. “I don’t need an introduction. You already know who I am.”

The crowd roared with agreement. Some of them began to chant the name of Bengal’s tag team: “ROGUE! TI-GERS! ROGUE! TI-GERS!” As they chanted, they each held up one of their hands in a tiger claw. It was the same gesture that Bengal would give, whenever she tagged in to help her partner Renee.

“Yes, everyone knows the Rogue Tigers,” Bengal continued, clearly relishing the attention. “Everyone knows we’re the undisputed TAW champions. And that’s not going to change.” There were a few jeers from the fans of other tag teams in the league - but not many. The Rogue Tigers had held their belts for over three months, and were overwhelmingly popular.

“But here’s what we don’t know,” Bengal said, raising up one finger. “What happens when two tigers fight?” The crowd grew hushed, waiting to hear her explanation. “You’ve seen Renee and me beat up a lot of losers. Tonight, you get to see us beat up on each other.” She raised her finger high in the air. “This is an exhibition match! One on one! Tiger versus tiger! And just so there’s no question about who the winner is…” She clenched her fists. “It’ll be submission only.”

The crowd cheered raucously, their earlier doubt forgotten. In the back of the bleachers, an inconspicuous-looking man in a dark suit raised his head up from his phone, eyes widening with surprise. Unbeknownst to anyone else in the arena, he was a talent scout from a much more prestigious league, and the announcement had piqued his interest.

Back down in the ring, Bengal was pacing back and forth, scanning the bleachers for Renee. She knew that her partner often enjoyed making surprise run-ins from the crowd. “Renee! Get down here, Renee!” She roared. “You might be used to tagging me in, but tonight I’m gonna make you TAP OUT!” She tapped on the mic to illustrate her point. “And then-”

But Bengal’s speech was cut off by a flare of fireworks at the top of the entrance ramp, followed by the pounding drums and booming bass line of Renee’s entrance music. The Renegade was striding down to the ring, clad in red and black. Her midriff top exposed her well-defined abs, and the dark makeup under her eyes made her expression seem even more focused and intense. It was clear that she had something to say as well.

Renee took in the cheers from the crowd. She was fresh out of high school, and had joined TAW only a few months ago, after drifting around from city to city. She met with Bengal in training, and instantly hit it off with her. They had won the TAW Tag Team Title multiple times, though their current reign was the longest by far. She was given a mic, as she quickly began to get cocky with her speech:

“Oh, you really stepped in it now, Bengal…Or should I say, BenGAY!” She threw back her head and laughed before continuing. “Nah, I’m just joking with you, bestie. But seriously, you’re one to talk, considering that I was the one pinning people to win those tag titles, while you were looking up at the lights.” Someone in the crowd whistled loudly with approval. “A submission match? OK, you’re on, Bengal. Let’s see if you can handle the Renegade’s Interrogation.”

She dropped into a low squat, imitating her camel clutch finisher that had already destroyed so many opponents. Then she waltzed down the ramp and entered the ring. She gave Bengal a fist bump before taking her corner, waiting for the bell. This was gonna be a fun match between two best friends.

At least, that’s how it seemed at the time…

Renee would be stretching in the corner as she waited for the bell to ring. It was gonna be fun match with her best friend. She also heard that this taping will be posted online, a chance to finally break it big and wrestle for the best of the best. Though, she had a pre-clause in her little made up contract for anyone looking to sign her. Wherever Renee went, Bengal would also be needed to go with her as well. The Rogue Tigers were a package deal and there was nothing in the world that’s gonna break up this tag team.

The wrestling company was kinda a bit on a budget as they needed to use a dinner bell as their ring bell. Once they rang the bell, the match would begin. Renee playfully circled the ring with Bengal as the crowd was definitely seeing something new with this organization. They then saw Renee challenging Bengal to a test of strength. She wanted to see the progress Bengal made in their workouts together.

“Alright bestie. Let’s see if you truly lifted 85 kg during our trips to the gym. I’m hoping all that junk you were saying about beating my 75 kg record by 10 kg was all bs or not.”

"See, that's your problem, Renee," Bengal quipped back. "All you care about is strength." She made as if she was about to accept the test, but right before she grabbed Renee's hands, she suddenly changed course, lunging forward with a high knee aimed at Renee's chin. "You always forget...about SPEED!"

Renee would be taken by surprise as her opponent changed up the test of strength with a quick knee to the chin. She stumbled back held her chin in pain as she looked up at Bengal, showing off a little bit.

“Damn. You and your fake test of strengths. I really gotta learn how you’re so quick with these fakes and stuff. Definitely a trip to the treadmill will improve my quickness.”

"Quick is a state of mind," Bengal chirped back. She danced lightly back and forth on the balls of her feet for a moment, trying to throw Renee off with her unpredictable movements. Then she lunged forward again, this time with a palm strike.

Renee would quickly move out of the way as she watched her crash to the mat. That was when she had her moment and she was gonna strike quickly.

Renee grabbed the legs of Bengal and quickly dragged her to the middle of the ring. If she were successful, Renee would attempt to put Bengal in a low ankle lock. She wanted to get the first submission attempt in the match as she just wanted to wear and slow down Bengal for the moment.

Just before Renee could get the ankle lock in, Bengal recovered from her fall. She twisted around in Renee's grasp and kicked up, breaking herself free. She rolled away a short distance, then drove her legs into the air once more, wrapping her ankles around Renee's neck and shoulders. She was going for a Hurricanrana! It was a risky maneuver, especially so early in the match. But Bengal knew that Renee's endurance was greater than hers. She couldn't afford to let this bout go on for too long.

Renee would fall on her ass after Bengal kicked her away from the ankle lock. Both superstars would be up on her feet as Bengal attempted to shift momentum back to her. She went for the hurricanrana. However, Renee would surprisingly keep her legs held as she then slowly lowered Bengal down and transitioned the hurricanrana into the Boston Crab. She then yelled at Bengal as the referee would be down to see if Bengal submitted.

“See that. That’s called being a grappler. You should’ve known I would’ve done something like that. Now how about you tap out to the true submission specialist in the Rogue Tigers, eh.”

"GYAAH!" Bengal snarled and gritted her teeth with pain as Renee bent her back at an unnatural angle. She practiced yoga almost every day to improve her flexibility, but the Renegade's hold was still agonizing. The referee bent down to check if the Tiger was submitting, but Bengal refused. She shook her head violently back and forth, scattering drops of sweat across the canvas. Her opponent dropped low, locking the hold in even deeper. Just when it seemed like Bengal's backbone was about to snap in two, she clawed desperately at Renee's ankles with her catlike nails. The Renegade's concentration broke for a moment - just enough time for Bengal to slip free. But the damage had already been done. As the Tiger got back on her feet, she winced with pain, putting one hand to her spine for support. "Thanks for the stretch," she joked, trying to sound casual. Still, the worry in her eyes was obvious. The two fighters circled again, searching for another opening.

Renee was forced to let go of the Boston Crab on Bengal as she was cat scratched on her ankle. She would stumble forward as she rubbed her ankle in pain, looking at Bengal with a bit of anger for that little trick up her sleeve. She then watched Bengal get up, getting up alongside her as well, and would snarl at the little remark she made. She then circled the ring with Bengal.

“Ooh. You lucky you’re my best friend. I would’ve super kicked you in the face for something like that. But jeez, did you really needed to go skin deep with that scratch? I might draw blood if you try that again.”
