Author’s Note

This is something new that I wanted to try out, because I’m a writer first and foremost and I think there is a lot of potential side stories we could tell with something of this concept. This won’t affect storylines or rivalries that pop up, but since it is canon in the universe, there may be references at best. I won’t do anything like this with matches, because those are user and user territory. These stories are just for fun. Maybe showcase lesser used characters and showcase a more slice of life side that doesn’t have too many implications for future storylines. There won’t be anything too consequential here so heed to the disclaimer. Young Lioness Dorms

Things had been relatively quiet around the dorms for the younger rookies that inhabited LAW. They were admittedly not up to much and they weren’t making too many headwaves of getting on tapings or pay-per-views. Most were just focusing on their daily training and were practicing for their eventual graduation matches once their trainers had full confidence they were ready to face the wider world of LAW. Meiyun Lai had been one of the more focused girls that signed up wanting to prove herself worthy to match other great wrestlers like her main trainer Astrid Ostberg and great lightweights in the company like Annie Clark and Clara Gaster. Meiyun looked up to them and wanted to follow their example of hard work making the most out of every opportunity possible. Ever since her last outing against Rose Gold, Meiyun has learned patience and not diving into a title chase before she was really ready. Meiyun learned from the blunders of her past, a past that saw an abysmal record of losses, but every match brought along a new resource of improvement for the usual waitress. Also, she does her family proud promoting House of Lai in interviews and promotional spots so the exposure does seem to help.

Meiyun Lai

Meiyun ran into her dorm dressed in workout attire completing a run six blocks down the road. She was a workout junkie and always wanted to keep herself in good shape no matter if she had a booking or not. Meiyun had considered taking independent bookings in order to hone her skills on the best that Japan had to offer and joshi women would definitely provide her the best outlets for matches. Meiyun sat her bag on her desk and huffed a little bit sitting on her bed. She looked over at the empty bed in front of her and had a bit of a somber look. Yumi….

More notably, her former roommate was Courage Takemi, one of the many idols that came to LAW, but she always had a busy schedule to balance. Concerts, rehearsals, wrestling classes, tutoring, etc. Courage was truly living the life of a typical celebrity and having trouble balancing all of that. Courage moved out telling Meiyun that she was going to stick to the indies where she could flow her schedule better and Meiyun wished her luck hoping to meet her in the ring where they could test each other. Courage would make a mental note of a friendship battle with Meiyun and that is where they parted ways. Meiyun rode alone since then for the last few months and hadn’t considered new people to move in with her. She asked Sakura if she wanted the empty slot so they could spend more time together, but Sakura said she wasn’t ready for that type of commitment. Sakura’s always been awkward about their relationship so Meiyun doesn’t hold it against her. Meiyun considered Nico next, but Nico would switch rooms towards Teuila’s room so they could be together.

It was truly a guessing game on who Meiyun could see as a new roommate, but to her own surprise, there was one name she had never even considered.

“MEI! YOU IN HERE?!” Sheila’s booming voice screamed as Meiyun got startled yelling at the top of her lungs going down back first on her bed.

“Gah! Sheila, do you have to be so loud?” Meiyun asked as she sat up and rubbed her ears seeing her best friend arrive with two black suitcases.

“Ah, sorry, I don’t know my own volume sometimes. Then again, it’s not quiet hours so I don’t think anyone will mind. I got some great news!” Sheila exclaimed with a giddy grin.

“Is it you promising to never just barge in on me while I’m trying to think?” Meiyun asked as she got up to which Sheila raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“Well, okay, I promise that, but I became your new roommate. I figured since Yumi ain't here anymore and you’ve been rather moot the last few months, you could use an old friend to cheer ya up. I jumped at the first sign that transfers were being offered,” Sheila explained as she outstretched her hands.

“You transferred to my room?” Meiyun asked as she widened her eyes.

“Why wouldn’t I? Ever since we met, we are pretty much sisters. I didn’t think you’d mind,” Sheila replied with a wide smile and her hands on her hips.

“Huh? I guess I’ve been living alone for so long that I never fathomed the thought of a new roommate. It has gotten lonely in here,” Meiyun stated.

“All the better for me to come in and turn that frown upside down!” Sheila exclaimed as she pinched Meiyun’s cheeks and lifted them up as Meiyun giggled and playfully slapped her friend’s hands away.

“Well, I couldn’t ask for anyone better. You do have a point about us being pretty close like sisters. It is a lot of fun to train with you as well. You do like to take wrestling seriously,” Meiyun explained.

“I’ve only been getting better under my training and Will has been helping me perfect my springboard and slingshot moves. I think I’m really improving on my accuracy,” Sheila added as she flexed her right bicep winking at Meiyun.

“Always one to go risk for the reward. That’s one of the things I’ve always liked about you,” Meiyun pointed out with a warm smile.

“Hey, why don’t we celebrate becoming roommates with a sparring match? I don’t think we’ve really had the chance to square off and I don’t see it being on LAW television anytime soon,” Sheila suggested stretching her arms.

“Heh, you always know that challenges always get my blood pumping. I never turn down a wrestling match,” Meiyun accepted as she punched a fist in her open palm.

“I just thought you’d maybe get tired of me always owning you in our short spars in class,” Sheila teased.

“That’s a controlled environment! We haven’t had a true clash to test out the improvements!” Meiyun interjected.

“You weren’t lying about challenges really getting you going. I gotta shower first and prep myself, but feel free to head over to the gym and save us a ring,” Sheila stated as she pointed to the open door behind her.

Meiyun nodded with a bright smile as she went to her closet and fetched her black gym bag setting it on the ground while Sheila grabbed her suitcases to start setting up her wardrobe opening the double doors to her new closet. Sheila always liked hanging out with Meiyun and the waitress had shown on rare occasions that she was a delight to be around when she wasn’t being a buzzkill towards Sheila’s antics. These two never did have an official match yet and even if this was just a friendly spar, they both weren’t going to hold back on the other. Especially after taking months off on an excursion to America that placed them in a bigger spotlight. They were ready for a true update since their last outing in class.
