What a lovely day... was...

Unread post by skip-stop »

"Okay, just schedule this charity event for Wednesday and don't worry about anything, now I have to go!" Holding the door already open, Astrid told her manager. "See you later!"

Before Victoria could ask where she was in a hurry, the Norwegian woman closed the door behind her. After a quick glance at her phone screen, she made sure that she still had time to get to her destination, after which she headed down the corridor to the elevator. Astrid hadn't actually planned to visit LAW headquarters today, but she preferred to discuss important issues in person rather than over the phone. That's why she's here today. But now that the issue of the charity event had been successfully settled, she was free to devote the rest of the day to another, even more pleasant meeting.

After waiting for the elevator, she pressed the button for the first floor. There was a slight smile on the blonde's lips as she was very excited about the upcoming meeting. Since she became a champion, her schedule has become much more intense. Because of this, her life in a sense turned into a vicious circle. After each match, she had to spend at least three weeks recovering, then intensive training began, and then a new match. At some point, she caught herself thinking that she shouldn't live like this. Even though the title continued to be her responsibility, she decided that she simply had to let herself relax from time to time. Just like today.

But as soon as the elevator doors opened, another obstacle appeared on her way to a pleasant pastime. There was a journalist, whom Astrid had already seen at several conferences, as well as a cameraman. Astrid didn't believe in coincidences, at least not in such like this one. So she had no doubt that they were here to ask some exclusive questions outside conferences. She didn't have much desire for it, but before she could say anything...

"Astrid Arvidsson!" The journalist exclaimed, which made the blonde raise her left eyebrow. "What a coincidence!"

"Is it?" She replied skeptically, only surprised at how surreal the situation was.

"Of course, we came here to shoot some videos in the gym on the second floor," it was obvious that this was complete nonsense, but the journalist persistently pretended that everything she said was true. "But since we've met the openweight champion herself, could you answer a few questions, please?"

Astrid noticed that the camera was already on, which in turn meant that if she refused, even this could become news. She didn't want to read the headline "narcissistic champion refuses to answer questions" tomorrow, but at the same time she couldn't afford to waste time on it. So she found a compromise for herself. Maybe not the best one, but still.

"You have time until I get to the lobby," she said, then allowed herself a smile. "So keep up."

With a confident step, she headed forward down the corridor. Considering the three turns she would have to make, the journalist had no more than five minutes to answer questions. So, speeding up their pace, she and her cameraman tried to follow Astrid's advice and keep up with her.

"Tell me, what is your assessment of the current state of affairs in the roster?" The journalist began, wasting no time. "There have been more and more newcomers lately and..."

"That's right," Astrid said before she could finish, realizing that if she didn't start answering the question right away, then not the most pleasant additions might be added to it. "There have been more and more newcomers lately, and many are starting their careers as if they were born for pro wrestling." The blonde turned her head to the side and one short glance at the journalist was enough for her to understand that this woman expects a more scandalous response from her. "Not so long ago, I could also be called a newcomer, so I fully support those who come to the federation and know exactly what they want to achieve." Astrid did not play along and remained honest. "But I want to note that veterans also keep the bar high, not allowing newcomers to take everything into their hands, thanks to this healthy competition reigns in the roster, which in turn means that the current state of affairs in the roster is probably better than ever, at least in recent years."

Not so long ago, Astrid would hardly have been able to answer the question so clearly. Before she became a champion, she did not participate in conferences with journalists, even during promos she usually preferred not to throw words around, but to immediately call her rivals out. So in a way, she has matured thanks to people like this journalist.

"What about the title scene? You said that the current state of affairs in the roster is probably better than ever in recent years, can you say the same about the title scene?" A smile formed on the journalist's lips, because it was an even more tricky question than the previous one.

"Every champion since LAW was founded has contributed to the federation," Astrid said with a slight shrug, thereby making it clear that this question did not bother her at all. "Some more, some less, but it seems to me that you should spend a little more time directly on wrestling, rather than trying to dig up someone else's dirty laundry." A slight blush formed on the cheeks of the journalist, but her silence allowed Astrid to continue. "Because in that case you wouldn't need to ask this question, over the past two years, the federation has changed the holder of every belt except the tag team titles holders, which in turn means that the SWAT Cats are still showing amazing results in the ring." Astrid turned the corner, but she didn't stop talking. "But if you need my opinion, then here it is, every champion in the person of Kyoko, Alaina, Annie and others, including your humble servant..." Astrid looked at the camera a little theatrically. "We are all trying both for the sake of the federation and for the sake of the audience, and as my manager says, statistics cannot be deceived, and statistics show that matches on the title scene attract more attention than ever, so I think that with the title scene everything is fine."

Considering that there are only a few steps left before the last turn, the journalist has only time for one question. Astrid noticed that the woman was desperately trying to make a choice in a last-ditch attempt to make the champion to say something that would offend both readers and other wrestlers. And although Astrid had already prepared herself for this question in her heart, she still had to make some efforts not to growl after the journalist stopped on that option.

"We are approaching We Are LAW 7," she even paused briefly, clearly enjoying the moment. "Do you have any thoughts about the next contender for the openweight title?"

If Astrid got a hundred yen every time she was asked this question, she could buy herself an extra beer at a cheap bar. Nevertheless, it was this question that, for some reason, always irritated her. However, she was a person of her word, so she was obliged to answer even though she had already reached the last turn before the last part of the corridor to the lobby.

"Tell you what..." Astrid began, turning her head towards the camera and thus turning the corner literally blindly.

With Emaline's typical aristocratic strut, she approached a rather confused LAW official staring down the hallway at seemingly nothing. "Greetings attendant." She spoke in her usual urbane and polite if incredibly condescending manner. "If you do not mind my asking, have you perhaps witnessed an acquaintance of mine? I have substantial reasoning to believe that it is highly probably that she passed through here." A begrudging, still confused nod was all the answer she received. "My deepest thanks." She slightly nodded her head before moving on with her day.

Elsewhere, KUREIJI barreled through the hallways of LAW HQ, her blood thrumming in her veins. She gripped the garden spade so tightly her knuckles turned white and a feverish giggle bubbled out of her mouth. "Ehehehe!" Confused onlookers glanced in her direction they were little more than unimportant blurs to her. Visions of glorious carnage flooded her mind until eventually, she spotted someone turning the corner.

Her lips split into a wide smile and she sprinted full speed towards her target: Astrid. As soon as the Little Fiend closed the distance, she leapt onto the air and attempted to latch onto the blonde, thighs clamping down tightly around her waist. "AHAHAHA!" Laughing maniacally, KUREIJI repeatedly smashed the flat of the spade across Astrid's cheeks and continued to hammer away even if she lifted her arms up to block.

If my manager hadn't recently been stabbed in the back, then the audience would have received one of the best matches of the decade at We Are LAW 7, but now...”

She didn't get a chance to finish. The next second after Astrid turned the corner, something, or rather someone, crashed into her. In any other situation, one could say that it was just an accident, by her fault by the way, because in fact the blonde did not look where she was going. But no, it wasn't an accident. At least for the reason that the champion felt that her waist seemed to be in a vise. And then something happened that she least expected today. A cold metal blow to the head.

Astrid couldn't even scream. Everything happened too suddenly. From this blow, her vision was blurred, a terrible squeak appeared in her ears like after a grenade explosion, and blood ran down her face and hair. She didn't know yet that it was a brute of a lightweight that crashed into her. And although the truth was that hardly any lightweight was capable of knocking down the descendant of the great Vikings, hitting the head with a metal object is too serious an argument. The blonde's vestibular apparatus failed and she literally collapsed on the floor.

Don't sleep... don't sleep... don't sleep, damn you!!!” She repeated to herself in her head.

The champion managed to realize that she had been attacked. Usually when you get an unexpected blow to the head, you end up drooling. But the blonde was known not only for her muscles, but also for her iron willpower. Literally forcing herself to stay conscious, Astrid clenched her fists and raised her hands up, trying to cover her head and protect herself from the blows that kept coming.

Ghhh... grrrhhh... gggghhhrrr...”

Bones are no tougher than metal, but at that moment she simply had no other protection than her forearms. Trying not to let the pain break her, Astrid tried to buy at least a few seconds to get her head in order, because with dizziness and fog in her eyes, she could not give at least some kind of rebuff to the one who so treacherously attacked her right at LAW headquarters.

What about the journalist and her cameraman? Well, while she was dumbfounded watching what was happening, the man continued to film everything. Maybe they both should have called security, but so far they haven't. Why? Some would say that these are all the consequences of shock, but others would say that in fact these two wanted to get a really sharp plot, which they did not even count on today.

"NAHAHAHA!" KUREIJI cackled maniacally upon seeing Astrid swiftly put up a defense instead of crumbling under the surprise onslaught. "OPENWEIGHT CHAMPION, HUH?!" The redhead screamed as she battered the blonde's arms, hopefully forcing her to keep her guard up and block her own vision. "LET'S STRESS TEST THAT!" Tossing aside the spade, KUREIJI planted both hands on the ground before she hopped into the air and performed a handstand. From there, she extended her knees out and let gravity take root, sending her knees plummeting towards Astrid's abdomen for a brutal handstand knee drop.

Meanwhile, Emaline pricked her ear when she heard the distant clamour of metal striking flesh. Her lips curled into a smirk and without even bothering to pick up her pace, she followed the disturbance to its source. "Such a crude melody." She murmured forlornly to herself. "But such matters simply could not be helped."

Astrid wasn't in the habit of making excuses, so she was fully aware that she was to blame for being in this situation. Shortly before she became a champion, she gave advice to another champion. She told her to never let down her guard and always be on the lookout because the golden belt is, in a sense, makes a target on your back. Therefore, she should have known that sooner or later this day would come. Sooner or later, someone would definitely try to attack her outside the ring.

However, the descendant of the great Vikings had far more important concerns than regretting that she had weakened her defenses. Blood continued to flow from the wound on her head, and her forearms were covered with bruises in just a few moments. The pain in her bones was unbearable, but Astrid knew that if she dropped her hands, things would get even worse.

As soon as she thought about it, the woman who attacked her began to mock her loudly, at the same time accelerating the pace of her blows. These words made Astrid let out a growl through her teeth, but unfortunately her head was still not right. To protect herself from this barrage of blows, she had to press her forearms together. As soon as this happened, the blows stopped, but the blonde did not even have time to be surprised, because a moment later two knees crashed into her abs at once.

"GGGUUAAAHHHH!!!"

The champion's eyes widened, and the air strangled out of her lungs. Yes, she was proud of her steel abs, but she didn't have time to tense it. In a fit of pain, Astrid turned onto her right side, hugging her stomach and trying to catch her breath.

"Fuck..." came out of her mouth.

"SO FAR NOT LOOKING TOO IMPRESSIVE!" KUREIJI sneered when she saw Astrid's defence crumble after she took that knee drop to her midsection. The redhead didn't let up of course, clasping her hands together, she brought her fists up high before she smashed them onto the blonde's ribs. "COME ON! COME ON!" With renewed vigor, KUREIJI started raining double axe handles all over Astrid's body.

At the same time, Emaline happened onto the scene and much to her pleasure, discovered that events transpired more or less as she hoped. She strolled up besides the journalist and cameraman and aristocratically giggled aloud, catching their attention with her sudden appearance. "~Ohoho, my, my,~" With an air of contemptuous nonchalance, she commented on the champion's current predicament. "How disgraceful. For the Openweight Champion of LAW, one ought to represent the pinnacle of the roster, to find herself in caught in such a predicament."

There are bad days. There are very bad days. And there are days like this one. Astrid didn't even have time to try to catch her breath when an axe strike hit her ribs, causing the blonde to scream in pain even despite the fact that there was almost no air in her lungs. Having almost completely lost control of her body, she involuntarily turned her back again. Now, not only her gaze, but her entire mind was shrouded in fog. Too much pain. But never say that it can't be worse. Because it can.

A voice came somewhere from the right side, which Astrid could only describe as nasty. The words, like poison, penetrated the champion's head and she looked at the woman who appeared on the scene of these cruel events. Even through the mist in her eyes, Astrid saw long pink hair. In a way, it helped her focus.

You...” Astrid croaked in unpleasant surprise.

They didn't know each other personally, but Astrid knew this woman. She knew most of the people she should have known, not to mention that the blonde had eaten a whole bucket of ice cream while watching Emaline and Kyoko's match. Realizing who was behind this dastardly attack, the Norwegian woman bared her teeth. Anger like fire engulfed her, but as if it was a bucket of icy water, KUREIJI sent another axe strike into Astrid's abs to cool her ardor.

GOOOOAHH!!”

Saliva flew out of the blonde's mouth. It seemed that nothing could fix the situation in which she found herself. But don't underestimate the power of anger. Especially the anger of the Golden Dragon. When KUREIJI tried to raise her hands for the next axe strike, Astrid grabbed both of KUREIJI's wrists with her left hand. With a grimace of pain on her face, but she threw her right hand up, grabbing the lightweight by the throat. Every move felt like torture, but driven by rage, she intended to throw KUREIJI towards Emaline. Was it just a desperate attempt to buy a few last moments? Perhaps. But Astrid was one of those who believed that it was better to do at least something than not to do anything at all.

"HA!.." KUREIJI scoffed when Astrid grabbed the redhead's wrists, putting a halt to her assault. However,- "Grk!.." The blonde seized KUREIJI by the throat. Her eyes widened and she squirmed frantically, legs kicking to strike Astrid's thighs and shins but to no avail.
"Oh?" Meanwhile, Emaline displayed only mild amusement in the face of Astrid's resurgence. As a precaution, the Viper nonchalantly strode around the journalist, positioning them between herself and the Dragon. "It would seem the dragon has finally deigned to display her teeth."

After she threw KUREIJI towards Emaline, Astrid found herself on her right side, feeling some semblance of relief for the first time since the assault, because now she was not under a hail of incessant blows. And although the good news was that she had avoided further beating for now, it had no effect on her already more than bad condition.

Besides damn hard breathing, most of her exposed skin was covered in bruises, half of her face, like her golden hair, was covered in blood, and her entire body was trembling slightly from agony, not to mention that she had to fight the urge to pass out right here and now. The blonde definitely did not expect that this day would end for her like this. But it was the price for not being ready for the assault. Speaking of...

Emaline, in the same mocking manner, commented on the fact that Astrid was able to throw off the lightweight. At the same time, the pink-haired woman, clearly wanting to be safe, did not disdain to stand behind the journalist, using her as a human shield.

"Display teeth, huh..." Astrid repeated in a slightly trembling voice, but with a frank laugh at the end.

Placing both palms on the floor, she forced herself to push off and thereby rose to one knee. Now the consequences of the assault became even better visible as Astrid looked as if she had been run over by a truck several times. But at the same time, when she raised her head, pushing her bloody hair back, and looked at Emaline, her lips curled into a cheeky smile.

"So maybe you and your sycophant want me to show you something else?" The smile slowly faded from her face, and flames began to dance in her eyes. "Take a step and I'll show you why they call me the Golden Dragon..."

Astrid rose to her feet, straightening to her full height. And when she clenched her fists and raised them to chin level, even the journalist got goosebumps. It was the most twofold sight. On the one hand, Astrid was so beaten that it seemed that she might fall from a simple breeze. But in her eyes was something else. And if Emaline had looked into those lavender eyes, she would clearly have been able to understand that if she took this step, Astrid would simply burn her to the ground.

"Come on, Emaline, make me show you why I'm a champion," Astrid growled. "Risk your health!"

KUREIJI found herself flung backwards and landing in a messy heap. Eyes bulging and seeing red, she hissed through gnashing teeth as she scrambled to stand up and get back into the fight only to be barred by a tall silhouette; Emaline."I kindly advise against continuing down that path." She politely said, her voice dripping with venom. "Lest I shall be forced to intercede and you will find yourself misliking the consequences."
The redhead froze, save for her jaw dropping slightly but she quickly shook away the shock and returned to her prior frenzied expression. "Raggedy bitch..." She muttered to herself but left it at that and backed down.

Already putting KUREIJI out of her mind, the pinkette faced Astrid. "My sycophant?" Emaline asked, sounding both confused and amused in equal measure. "Oh..." She feigned realisation before she closed her eyes and shook her head. "Dear, oh dear, it would seem that you fell under a misconception. Please allow me to assure you that my arrival onto the scene was pure happenstance." Unlike the other two wrestlers, she made sure to maintain a noble and gracious disposition, standing tall and barely gesticulating.

"And as for your brazen provocations..." Her lips curled into a pleasant smile with genuine mirth reaching her eyes. "There is little value to be attained from disciplining a beaten and battered mut, even one that proclaims itself a dragon." She giggled softly. "Though there is admittedly some entertainment to be found, I hold myself to greater standards than that and would never debase myself as to commit such a treacherous and cowardly act."
