So when people talk about "adopting" a character, they mean they want to take and write the LAW character. As in, someone might "adopt" Madeleine from me and then run Madeleine as their character. My understanding of the policy is that LAW wrestlers can only be adopted with the active consent of the person who created the character. You can usually, however, share a faceclaim with a user who has been absent for a long time, with permission of a staffer. So if I disappeared for a year, someone could make a character based on Ereshkigal without asking me permission, so long as they talked to someone on staff about it first.
