A mistake in the schedule

Unread post by skip-stop »

Nerissa had a big smile on her face. She had reason to be pleased. Thanks to the successes in her career, she has gained great popularity. At first she did not pay attention to it, but after We Are LAW, she could no longer ignore it because she began receiving invitations to interviews, promotions and other events. That's why she came here today.

The contributing editor of the magazine "Stars of Pro Wrestling" sent her an invitation to a photosession. For Nerissa, it was an opportunity not only to increase her popularity, but also to get easy money, for which she would certainly be able to find a good use. Stopping in front of the editor's door, Nerissa knocked.

"Come in!" Came from the other side.

The Native American woman entered the office and she had to make some effort not to whistle. The office was decorated with many shelves and racks. In addition to the most popular issues of the magazine, there were a large number of signed posters of wrestlers from different eras, replicas of title belts, a large number of figures and much more.

"It's nice that I managed to impress you!" Said the Japanese man in a formal suit, getting up from his chair.

"It certainly wasn't easy to assemble such a collection, so, yes, it's really impressive," Nerissa replied, then walked up to the table and held out her hand. "Nerissa Labong, I speak Japanese if you prefer."

"Nataki Haisho, nice to meet you in person," the man shook Nerissa's hand and motioned for her to sit in a chair. "It's commendable that you were able to master Japanese, but don't worry, I prefer English."

Nerissa nodded and sat down in her chair. To her surprise, she felt quite at ease. It's no secret that Nerissa's temperament was all ardent and therefore she always had some problems with communicating in a formal setting. However, the editor sitting in front of her was very tactful and, of course, not the least role was played by the fact that he was apparently a real fan of pro wrestling.

"So, I suppose you'd like to know the details of the contract, right?" Haisho asked. "Maybe I should know right away that you have any boundaries that you would not like to cross?" The man leaned back in his chair and connected the pads of his fingers, thanks to which he managed to emphasize the status of the boss. "You probably know that in our magazine we publish both classic and more racy photos."

"We won't have a problem with that," Nerissa's thin lips stretched into a smile. "Since you sent me an invitation after We Are LAW, I am sure that you are aware that I am ready for anything." In order to make clear the seriousness of her words, Nerissa decided to reveal her cards right away. "If you want pictures of me in a bikini or underwear, then the only thing you need to do is write a big check, nothing else."

"Then I'm sure we'll come to an agreement," the man nodded, clearly appreciating Nerissa's openness and determination. "Let me tell you about the contract, including the point of payment for your work..."

At that moment, a knock came at the door. The man looked past Nerissa with a confused look, before saying "Enter!", and looking back to Nerissa.

As he said that, Yahagi walked through the door, expecting to find just Haisho in the room. That was not to be the case, as she noticed Nerissa also in the room, which angered her slightly. She glared daggers at her, before turning back to Haisho. "And what, may I ask, is this botch doing here? I thought you told me to come here today, so we can have a discussion about this magazine or whatever, and you expect me to collaborate with some random schmuck on the streets?"

"I... Erm, well..." Haisho stammered, his face flushed red with embarrassment as he had realized what a sticky situation he had got himself into. "I must have told one of you the wrong date. I am very sorry" He remarked, trying to look somewhat professional and think of a way out of this mess.

Yahagi had been given this opportunity through her recent exploits in LAW, with a wide variety of people suggesting to the magazine that they get her in for modeling. Yahagi wasn't much into the modeling scene, but she couldn't refuse the money that they offered to her just for one shoot. What she was not told was the fact that she had to share it, and she hated being deceived.

Yahagi realised that her outburst might have annoyed the other woman, so she decided to be courteous and introduce herself. As the Japanese businessman hurried to figure out a way to solve this dilemma, the Samurai walked up to Nerissa and held out a hand to her. Her face was rather monotone, though there was a hint of anger still in her eyes.

"Sorry about that, seems like this idiot doesn't keep a diary. Or never uses it if he does. Names Yahagi, by the way" She said, hoping that the other woman didn't take her outburst as an attack against her.

Slightly raising her left eyebrow, Nerissa turned over her shoulder when she heard a knock on the door. She expected to see a secretary or any other employee of the magazine. However, to her surprise, a Japanese woman she didn't know came into the office. And although Nerissa didn't want to jump to conclusions at first, everything changed immediately after the brunette opened her mouth and started talking.

"Botch?" Flashed through the mind of the Native American woman. "Random schmuck?"

As soon as she heard these words, her gaze instantly turned hawkish. If she had heard something like that addressed to her in a bar, she would have grabbed a bottle without much hesitation and smashed it on the head of the brazen bitch who dared to tell her that. By the way, this is exactly the situation that happened not so long ago, because Alice Gaster, like this stranger, did not choose words.

The only thing that kept Nerissa from attacking this woman with her fists was the desire to maintain professionalism. If her manager found out that Nerissa started a fight in the office of the prestigious magazine, she would have to listen to a long lecture about reputation and other things. Nevertheless, Nerissa got to her feet, turning to face the stranger.

The situation was extremely clear. Haisho, apparently, considered not only Nerissa's candidacy for the photosession and mistakenly invited another LAW fighter at the same time that was scheduled for Nerissa. This in itself was a very annoying fact. In another situation, it might be possible to try to solve it somehow calmly and judiciously, but definitely not after what she heard.

And this was only the beginning, because after a few moments the brunette walked confidently towards Nerissa. Pretending that she hadn't said or done anything offensive, she introduced herself and even held out her hand for a handshake. At this point, the Native American woman's fists clenched and her heart began to beat much faster. It wasn't difficult for her to see that they had a height difference of about four inches, not to mention that this brunette was about twenty kilograms heavier. But all this did nothing to quell Nerissa's desire to punch her right in the face.

"Nerissa Labong," she introduced herself in a slightly hissing voice just so Yahagi could figure out who she was dealing with. "You can put your hand and your duplicity somewhere else." Nerissa intended to make it clear that she was not going to listen to insults first and then accept a handshake with a smile. "Better yet, turn around and get out." Nerissa nodded towards the door. "The early bird catches the worm."

It might have seemed that Nerissa had completely forgotten that Haisho was still here. It was partly true. For many years, Nerissa had to fight her way to a place in the sun with her own fists. During this time, she has developed clear principles by which she lives. By refusing to shake Yahagi's hand, she made it clear that she wasn't going to let anyone insult her. And by pointing at the door, she made it clear that she wasn't going to give up what was rightfully hers.

As Haisho scrambled around to try and figure out a professional means to sort out his mess, Yahagi had realised what she had done, albeit, it was too late now. She had made her bed, and now she had to lay in it. Or in this case, confront it. As Nerissa outright refused to shake her hand, she was contemplating trying to wipe the slate clean, citing that it was a slip of the tongue.

But the more Yahagi thought about it, the more outlandish that excuse turned out to be. Besides, Nerissa gave the aura of the unforgiving type, meaning that the more Yahagi did, the deeper the hole would go. She was half tempted to start a full on fight there and then, but the office was much too small to fight in, and she wanted to act at least somewhat professional.

In fact, all Yahagi did was show Nerissa the letter she had received, showing her the name that the letter was addressed to, which was herself, the date that the letter was sent, along with a signature, which was there to prove that she had signed the contract. She assumed that Nerissa was faking it, and she would have no such evidence.

Nerissa stared at Yahagi, waiting for the brunette's reaction. Deep down, she was ready to start praying to anyone that this woman would provoke her and give her a reason to start a fight. She was ready for such a scenario, and if Yahagi had made a sudden move, she would have immediately responded to it without any compromises. However, this did not happen.

Instead, the brunette took out an invitation letter from her bag and handed it to Nerissa. The Native American woman did not take it in her hands, one short glance at it was enough for her to understand that this was exactly the same letter as the one she received. Besides, it was obvious that Yahagi had come here for a reason. If she hadn't come here without an invitation, she probably wouldn't have gone past the reception. So no proof of the legality of her stay was needed.

However, this did not reduce the temperature of this hot situation at all.

"And?" Nerissa asked, turning slightly to Haisho.

"What?" The man blinked a few times, slightly embarrassed, as if he didn't understand at all what Nerissa was driving at.

"Obviously, you wanted to look at us individually, tell us about the contract, and then propose it to one of us," now that this personable man looked like a child who had been caught doing dirty tricks, Nerissa could barely contain her irritation. "Right?"

"Yes, that's right..." Haisho confirmed.

Now there is one less variable in the equation. That still didn't change the fact that the Native American woman was furious about it, but now it was known that only one of them would get the contract.

"Great," she said, after which her eyes narrowed. "Now we are both standing in front of you, so it will be even easier for you to make a decision."

"I..." the man's eyes started darting from Nerissa to Yahagi and back again. "I cannot take responsibility for such a hasty decision... you know... I need to weigh up the pros and cons... each of you deserves to be on the cover of our magazine... so..."

Nerissa's fists involuntarily clenched again. Even if she didn't have such a hot temperament, it would still be a blow to her pride. She joined LAW not so long ago, but during this time her name has become not just loud, during this time her name has become a kind of new statement in the lightweight division and not only. Until the moment it became known that her best friend became the inaugural openweight champion, she was one of the contenders for LAW's most prestigious title. And now that Haisho was not ready to make a choice in her favor, she felt a pang in her heart. On the other hand... life has taught her to take every opportunity and try to make the most of any situation... so...

"Then let me relieve you of this responsibility," Nerissa said, after which she turned to Yahagi face to face again. "Let's solve this the old-fashioned way." The thin lips of the Native American woman curved in a smile from ear to ear. "You and me, a standard match with the contract at stake!"

One shot - two dead hares. Nerissa is not used to backing down in the face of difficulties. Yeah, okay, Haisho wasn't ready to make a choice in her favor right now. But it opened another way for her. This match will give her the opportunity not only to get the contract, but also to kick the ass of this cheeky bitch standing in front of her. Nerissa was determined to teach Yahagi a lesson she wouldn't forget, namely that you should think about what you're saying and to whom.

Yahagi watched the situation between Nerissa and the flustered man escalate further, and she thought it wise not to intervene unless it got violent, which thankfully, it did not. She was not expecting such a hot-headed response from the American about the contract, but she could understand her frustrations.

"You truly are incompetent, aren't you?" Yahagi said, staring daggers at Haisho and pointing one of her fingers directly at his face. "You should have called me in, asked me about the contract, then if I declined, THEN ask her to come. Capisce?"

Yahagi then sighed as Nerissa turned her frustrations to her. She smirked at Nerissa's proposal, before nodding. "At least you know what you are doing, unlike that twit" She said, looking back at the man, before back to Nerissa.

"Meet me in the local ring in an hour. I didn't bring my gear with me, and I dont think you want us ruining these outfits. Do not be late." Yahagi said authoritavely, before heading out of the door at pace.

At least it didn't take long. Despite the fact that Nerissa clearly did not like this brunette, she clearly liked the fact that Yahagi did not look for an excuse to refuse the offer of the Native American woman. The fact that she agreed to solve everything the old-fashioned way indicated that she was clearly confident in her abilities, which greatly excited Nerissa. She liked strong opponents who could give her a tough match.

"What?" Nerissa raised her left eyebrow in surprise.

It looks like she jumped to conclusions too soon. Either Yahagi was really that naive, or she was nowhere near as experienced as she thought she was. A local ring? What a joke... when it comes to LAW, nothing stays just between the fighters. That is why LAW is the largest federation that most fighters dream of joining.

"Your naivety amazes me!" Nerissa said with obvious mockery. "Did you really think that everything would be so easy? That you would come, tell me shit in my face, and then we would end it all in the local ring?"

Lightning flashed in the eyes of the Native American woman, making it clear that this is not how things are done here. She crossed her arms under her chest and then grinned.

"No, dear, we will not meet in the local ring, we will meet in the LAW ring so that the audience can see for themselves what happens to those who speak first and only then think," Nerissa defiantly licked her lips. "It will take my manager two days to schedule our match, on the third day you should get your ass ready to be kicked."

Yahagi stopped in her tracks as Nerissa declared that their contest would be done in front of the LAW spectators, meaning it would be her first official standard match in LAW. This made the Samurai a little apprehensive, since she feared an almost certain defeat, but she got herself into this mess. She tried to keep her inexperience away from her opponent, before simply raising a hand in agreement and leaving the room. She then walked out of the office and walked out of earshot from her opponent, checking to make sure her opponent hadn't followed her, before leaning on a wall and putting her head into her hands.

"Oh shit..." She groaned "What have I done..."

Nerissa had no intention of scaring this brunette or gaining any emotional advantage. However, she wasn't going to let Yahagi get away with the situation. A match at the local gym would certainly have closed their dispute over the contract with the magazine, but for Nerissa it was a real matter of principle. In a way, the contract was the least important to her now. The brunette's skill was still a mystery to Nerissa, shrouded in darkness, but even if she was going to lose in this match, she intended to make sure that Yahagi would receive a lesson that she would not forget.

After Nerissa's words, the Japanese woman froze for a few seconds. Whatever her emotions were at that moment, she did her best to hide them. Silently raising her hand in agreement with the conditions, the brunette left the office, leaving Nerissa and Haisho alone. The venomous smile on the face of the Native American woman and the ominous silence were clearly not to the liking of the man.

"You know..." he began.

"You know," Nerissa interrupted him. "It's her fault that she talks faster than she thinks, but it's your fault that this whole situation happened at all."

She turned to face the contributing editor and gave him such an evil look that the man turned pale. Yes, Nerissa was going to teach Yahagi a lesson, but that didn't mean she was going to put all the blame on the brunette. She leaned forward and ran her tongue over her lips.

"You're lucky because now, whichever of us gets the contract, the next issue of the magazine will be a sensation," Nerissa's eyes sparkled. "But if I hear that because of you and your incompetence, this situation will happen again... you'd better pray..."

With these words, Nerissa left the office. Heading for the exit, she took out her phone and prepared to call her manager. Victoria is unlikely to be thrilled with what has just happened. On the other hand, it's not every day that a random match gets such a juicy backstory. The audience will surely be delighted, which means that regardless of the result of the match, the ratings of Nerissa and Yahagi will rise significantly.

"Victoria, I have news!" Nerissa said as soon as her manager answered the phone.

"I hope you didn't screw up with the contract..."

Nerissa couldn't help but grin.
