Beers, Beatings, Battlestar Galactica

Moira Kilgannon made her way backstage with the help of her opponent, Karen Gale. The two women had a hellacious match that bordered on a brawl in the ring. The two women put each other through the ringer and, in the end, Karen made Moira submit to a torture rack. After the match, Moira and Karen had a display of sportsmanship and agreed they needed a drink. They made their way to the locker room to clean up. When they got to the lockers, Moira hobbled to her locker and pulled a handle of whiskey and two cups from it. "Here ya go, lass." Moira poured them two fingers of whiskey each and raised her cup for a toast. "To a great match and an even better fight."

Karen was, admittedly, quite sore after the brutal match she and Moira had just had. Even so, she followed Moira backstage, and as Moira offered her a cup of whiskey, Karen all too happily accepted. "Fuck, you keep the good stuff in your locker, I see," she said. "I hope the management doesn't give you shit over it." She raised her glass in turn with a smile. "To a great match, and to me hopefully kicking your ass again if we ever tangle again."

”They don’t mind as long as I partake after my matches and not before. It definitely helps take the edge off from your punches,” she smiled.

”To many great matches, the majority of which I kick your ass,” she toasted. Moira offered another pour. She then commented, “You’ve been in real fights before. Always varying circumstances, but people who fight in the street or a bar with no rules, they feel different from those who just compete in athletic tournament fights. I can always tell. Am I right or am I right?”

Karen took a gleeful sip of the whiskey. It burned its way down her throat: it was strong stuff, way stronger than the stuff she had had in Wellington, Canberra, or Kyoto, and she involuntarily coughed and gagged at the sensation. She had heard that proper Irish whiskey hit like a freight train, but hearing was one thing, actually drinking the stuff was another.

Nonplussed, she cleared her throat before replying. "Yeah...a few," she said. ""Not all of them I'm proud of. A few fistfights when I was a teenager, a few arguments that got too personal. Stupid shit." She took another sip of the whiskey. "Oh, and a fight on the beach not long ago with another wrestler. To be fair, though, she started it. Bitch broke my surfboard. How about you, I'm guessing you've had a few good scraps outside the ring?"

”Add some milk or cream to it. Seems barbaric but that combo is one of the oldest whiskey combos. Goes great with coffee too,” she chuckled and listen to Karen talking about her fights. “In my experience we get into fights for the best reasons… or the very worst. Sounds like that skateboarding incident was a doozy. You win?” As for me, I’ve been in some scrapes. Bar fights mostly. A few that spilt out into the street. And not a true fight but I did bare knuckle to earn cash on top of me job at the docks.”

Karen reflexively rubbed her forehead as she remembered that brawl with Enrieta. "Not really, but at least she won't forget that fight either," she muttered. "But you were a dock worker? That must have been something. All I did was go to uni to become a doctor and instead become a wrestler. I still like to think I chose the more fun career choice."

Moira’s mouth was agape there for a second. ’All I did was go to uni to become a doctor,’” bwahaha no biggie,” Moira playfully imitated Karen.”I won’t ask why you switched over like a million people probably do. I get why. Being out there in that ring, especially with the right opponent, there’s nothing like it.” Moira toasted Karen.

Moira continued. ”The docks was the most consistent job, but really I did whatever gig work I could find. I’m quite the handywoman when I’m not getting into trouble. I did all that for cash to feed my expensive nerd hobbies.”

Karen relaxed as she leaned against one of the lockers, taking a sip from her own whiskey. "Hey, I was following in my family footsteps, okay?"/color] she whined. "And besides, it was a choice between fixing people and roughing them up, and I ultimately decided that roughing them up was way more exciting."

As she continued to sip her whiskey, she paused as Moira mentioned her expenses. "Nerd hobbies? What sort of nerd hobbies? You aren't one of those people who paints up little plastic soldiers, are you? Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind..."

Moira gave a hearty laugh. ”Touché, mate. Have you thought about doubling up as an EMT on the side? You get to fix people without the years of schooling, debt, and red tape and still wrestle primarily.”

Moira finished off her whiskey. “Oh nah fielding an army of miniature soldiers is too rich for my blood. I play one IRL though. Do both historical re-enacting and fantasy larping. HEMA’s great. Get to beat people up in style heh heh. Depending on the event I’m a celtic warrior, medieval knight, or sometimes a viking. Vikings throw great parties.”

Karen laughed in response to Moira's comment. "Me? An EMT? Nah, I'm incompetent clumsy at the best of times; don't want to accidentally hurt someone I'm trying to save. At least in the ring that's less of an issue."

She took that moment to finish off her whiskey as well. "LARPING? Really? Admittedly, that sounds kind of awesome. Though I'm guessing you have to go out of your way to get a historically accurate costume or something?"
