The Turtle & The Topic: Akari Ito vs Phoebe Duclair

As the Sea Turtle was dragged to her final destination, she could hear nothing but her ears ringing after that devastating kick sent her into a heavy daze. Everything was going dark as she was pulled over to the center of the ring. All of a sudden, she felt this weight on top of her...the soft body of her slightly younger opponent covering her for a pin attempt. She could barely register that Phoebe was lifting her leg and pinning her shoulders to the mat. She let out huffs of frustration, trying to move her body however she could as the referee came in for the count.


"1...!!!"

"2...!!!"
...
"3-...KICK-OUT!!!!"


To everyone's surprise, the Sea Turtle ACTUALLY managed to kick out of the pin at 2.9 seconds. The referee's hand was mere inches away from hitting the mat for a third time. Talk about cutting it close...Akari had successfully popped one of her shoulders off the mat as she turned to the side, albeit barely. It was admittedly a weak kick out, and signs of exhaustion were showing, but it was enough to save her from a harsh and definitive loss.

Phoebe looked down on Akari as she was pinning her, the amount of smug energy she was giving off could run an entire city. She could feel the win within her grasp. Akari will have to for sure learn that the goth girl was right.

And then she kicked out.

Phoebe's smug look turned into a look of shock. She could not believe that Akari still wanted to go.. But there she was, the match was continuing.

Phoebe knew she had to get to Akari and fast, so she quickly rolled Akari to her stomach, and attempted to lock on her crossface finisher, The Feline Lock.

Akari had escaped the pin attempt, barely managing to escape defeat by the skin of her teeth. However, Phoebe was still on top of her, ready to prowl. She was quickly turned over onto her stomach. Akari had done a little research on Phoebe in the week leading up to this match, along with her usual round of training. She KNEW about the Feline Lock, a standard STF pushed to a terrifying limit as the bratty Phoebe was intent on forcing a humiliating and excruciating tap out from her opponents. Given the mutual dislike the two had for each other, it was clear that Phoebe wouldn't take it easy on Akari. With some quick thinking, Akari attempted to reach out for the ropes before the Feline Lock was applied, aiming to grab it beforehand to cause a rope break before it was too late.

Phoebe was quite desperate to lock in the Feline Lock, she did not want to lose her main opportunity to win this match and this feud she had with Akari Ito. Because of the rushed nature of her movement, Phoebe could not get it successfully applied, as the next thing she knew, Akari had reached the ropes, cutting off any chance for a submission.

Phoebe rolled away from Akari, before slamming both her fists on the mat. "GODDAMIT!" Phoebe screamed, seeming as though the confidence and smugness had given away to frustration. Phoebe felt like she was losing it, not being able to put away Phoebe then and their.

Getting up to her feet, Phoebe ran towards Akari, looking for a dropkick, hoping that would get her back on track in this match.

Once Akari was free from a nearly devastating submission spot, the Sea Turtle stood back on her feet. She spots the incoming Phoebe, who looks utterly enraged and irritated with how much she struggled to keep Akari down. Akari dodges the dropkick, allowing the younger woman to crash and burn across the canvas. While Phoebe recoiled from the landing, the Sea Turtle would quickly try to lock in a Kneeling Headscissors, wrapping her thighs around Phoebe's face and then dropping all of her weight on the back of her head, slamming it into canvas!!!

Phoebe went for a desperation dropkick, hoping to maintain some form, any form of control against Akari Ito. She put her full force into the Drop Kick, but the only thing she met was mat as she came crashing down.

Phoebe grimaced, her mind panicking, any sort of cool factor she had was being lost in the shuffle. She quickly attempted to get up to her feet, even if her body wanted to rest.

But then she went right into a kneeling headscissors, and her was dropped straight into the canvas. "GAH!" Phoebe yelped as the impact was made, and she laid sprawled out on the Canvas.

Akari had successfully planted Phoebe's face directly onto the canvas. This was it...The Sea Turtle was practically at her wit's end, on her last legs and running on fumes. The candle had been thoroughly burned at both ends, and Phoebe had really pushed her to her damn limit. As frustrating as it was to admit...Phoebe WAS a skilled competitor. Akari could see a bright future ahead of her, one where she truly lives up to the name of 'Hot Topic'...but that attitude was insufferable...still, it did show a few positives. That arrogance carried hints of drive, passion, and confidence...It was something that a true star in the making NEEDED, but Phoebe's rampant cockiness overshadowed it. This HAD to be the end, but Akari hoped this match would provide the basis for a change within her younger foe. However, as a sort of "insurance," Akari wanted to ensure that Phoebe was finished. And so, she stands the woman back up and proceeds to hit her with an Eat Defeat, dropping back against the canvas and spiking her heel right into the woman's chin. Once Phoebe was down on the canvas again, Akari would cover her by hooking her leg, placing all her weight down over the girl.

Phoebe was basically barely conscious. Her body was unable to move, the only thing the goth girl could hear was her own thoughts. She was lucky to be even conscious in the first place. Her head hurt, basically everything on her hurt. It seemed like no matter how much shit talking she did, Akari was the better of the two.

Phoebe made no attempt to resist, the only reason why she was able to even stand was because of Akari holding her up, if she let go, Phoebe would have immediately collapsed to the mat. All that confidence she had just withered away, it was all gone.

So Akari hit Phoebe with the Eat Defeat. Phoebe collapsing to the mat, pretty much being near lifeless. She did not fear anything as the referee counted.

And then, Phoebe lost.

The bell rang, and the match was finally over. Akari could barely keep herself awake as she was on the brink of collapsing right then and there. She tried to keep herself as composed and steady as possible. Slowly, she makes her way up to her feet, standing victoriously over her opponent. However, she wasn't smiling...this match had taken a LOT out of the woman. She was standing on tired feet that carried her aching body. Her legs threatened to give out at any second, but she stood despite the pain. She looked at Phoebe and reached down...was she planning to embarrass the woman further? No. Akari reached a hand out toward Phoebe, grabbing her by the wrist, lifting her onto her feet, and helping her stand, propping her against a corner.

She waited for her opponent to wake from her daze before addressing her, looking at her with a heavy, somewhat emotional gaze. Once Phoebe was conscious, Akari spoke. "We may not like each other after this...we may not ever talk to each other after this...but-...I wanted to say that I'm sorry. You're not a brat, Phoebe. You're a strong, capable wrestler, and you took me to hell in this match...I may not like the things you say sometimes, but...You have undoubtedly earned my respect. Thank you for the match..." She said, extending her hand out to shake with Phoebe's, showing a bit of faith and good sportsmanship toward her foe. She had openly sung the woman's praises despite the conflict between them. Many of the spectators were shocked, and they looked to Phoebe to see how she'd respond.

Phoebe slowly came back to her senses, seeing how everyone reacted around her, she could tell that the match was over, and she had indeed lost the match. But oddly enough, she did not feel that mad at herself for losing to someone like Akari, the Sea Turtle had definitely gained her respect throughout the match as much as she hated to admit it.

Once Phoebe was on her rear end, now sitting, Phoebe saw Akari extend her hand out to the goth girl as the crowd looked agape, wondering what would she do next.

And then she took Akari's hand and used it to pull herself up. Being Phoebe, she took the time to whisper something in Akari's ear. "Same to you. You earned my respect. Just don't expect the same result next time." Phoebe whispered to Akari, wondering how she will respond.
